email usage ignorance in general is one of the biggest workplace annoyances. Not understanding bcc vs cc, not copying people period, not putting a subject or using nondescript subjects, not understanding reply vs reply all, not checking the original list of recipients before forwarding emails, etc.

The list goes on and on (as I'm sure many of you are painfully and similarly aware).

We're finally being upgraded to Office 2010

Well most folks here know enough about computers to load our software for our commerical traffic system and that's about it.

I swear someone yells my name every 30 minutes or so to come and tell them how to send an email, spell check, designate their time as free on their calendar, etc.

Its so so annoying

Last week a lady got a new monitor and needed to cut down the brightness a little, so I was like "Yeah its those buttons on the bottom of the monitor". She called me in and was like "I've been pushing all these buttons but nothing was happening". She was pushing on the "ACER" embossing on the stand for her monitor!

If you need something, I will preform at top quality, as soon as humanly possible. I have hit the road for 5 hours to accommodate mistakes made by others. I work 18 hours a day if need be. It is not new to me to work hard.

So if you need something, do not call me up and ask me, "Where are you?" before getting down to business. It does not matter. I work from wherever. I mean, every single time I get called, it's the same question. Several different leaders in our team.

WTF.

WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU, HAH???

Can I get a ruling? After 5:00 today, Manager asks me when Coworker typically arrives and leaves the office. I don't doubt Coworker's work ethic, but she has been away often recently. I gave Manager a ballpark estimate and told him that Coworker works late often and had family visiting lately. When I came home I sent Coworker an email saying that Manager had asked. I expected her to work longer hours for the next few days, let Manager know better if she had to be away, etc. Instead she writes back saying that she emailed Manager, told him that I told her about it, and explained that she had doctors appointments that she cleared with another manager. And that's great. But in first Manager's eyes, don't I look like a dumbass who can't keep his fucking mouth shut?

eh yes and no. unless he specifically said it was to be kept between you and the manager, or hinted at such i think you're fine.

however, if he was under the impression this was to be a secret, then yes he thinks you're a chatty-kathy douchebag

having passwords that are required to be # characters long, with at least 1 something and at least 1 of something else.. plus it needs to end in at least two vowels and a batman symbol.

come on people... you're just making it hard for the people that actually have to type that password in upwards of 30+ times a day

Every time we have to send something out that will cost the company money because of some error we made or some building code problem, my boss wants to look at the email to make sure we aren't saying anything ridiculous. Makes sense, but if you sent out something worded one way, he'll change it around to be worded another way that means the exact same thing only more vague so nobody understands why said thing happened. If you say "why do this when we could tell people why this happened" he says that this sort of feedback "may be a problem" and that "we'll discuss it at your performance review". He also expects us to send out the revised email with his language in it instead of simply sending it out directly (because that way it doesn't look like he's controlling everything we say/do even though he is).

He doesn't have any spine to back up anything he says though because people are working here who have cost customers/the company tens of thousands of dollars on many a job by their own negligence and laziness.

I hope he gets promoted out of the way so I can have a new superior, preferably one without an MBA.

The guy I have to work with everyday is an annoyance. He's an asshole and he calls me a dumb ass sometimes. Then he left work before the job was done the other night and made me finish it. He also likes to throw things at me and cuss at other people too. If he talked to our boss like he does me and the other people we work with then he would have been fired many months ago. I probably could have had him fired today, but I'm not a jackass like that. I don't want to try to start anything with him. I'm somewhat happy with my job right now and would hate to be asked to do something else, just so we didn't have to work next to each other.

I hate lazy workers who are always first to break and first to leave.

WTF. If you get him fired, there's a chance someone else who isn't an asshole might take his position, someone you might actually enjoy working with. From what you described, he deserves it.

What annoys me are people who are too lazy of apathetic to change a work environment in need of improvement.

The residents at Oberlin Courts continue to vandalize the office property. Someone tore up a tree in the office's backyard last night.

Abusive callers. This dude just called one of my coworkers, refused to let her verify him for his account, it takes her like 45 minutes trying to get him to cooperate with her, then proceeds to curse at her, call her names, ask for her address and other personal information.....to the point where she broke down and cried. Then my manager hopped on and spent another 30 minutes trying to verify him and calm him down, then customer did the same to him.....so he hung up on the Bastard.

Seriously, this is regarding your money, dude. Do you really think we are gonna tell you ANYTHING about your account without knowing 100% that you are who you say you are? And if we did, would you really want us holding your money?

My cubicle is by the managers offices

So when someone comes to chat with a manager and another person is in there, or they're on the phone, they're always like "HEY can you let me know when they're done?"

I always am busy doing something and totally say Yeah sure, but then I immediately forget to do it....ugh Call before you walk over if its too much of a hassle to come back and check

Ugh my work is like this. And they want you changing it every 60 days, but when you change it their shitty coding causes it not to change across the system, so then you have multiple passwords for what's supposed to be the same account.

The manager should have immediately set expectations with the customer that the abusive behavior stops, or the call ends. I've jumped in on calls with my engineers dealing with abusive customers many times, and abusive behavior just isn't tolerated. It goes against reason to give bad customers better service than good customers.

This FTW.

When you are calling someone and asking for their assistance, I don't understand why you would cuss them out.

I have found that being very nice to the people in call centers usually leads to great customer service. Those people likely hate their jobs (I would hate myself if I worked in a call center for TWC or any other large setting like that) and hearing from someone who isn't a frustrated jackass means they'll generally go the extra mile to make you happy.

I'll admit I've lost it once on a call center guy. But it was because he was being a complete fucking retard and wouldn't transfer me to someone else who would actually listen to me. He kept telling me I was giving him wrong information to verify my account, when I knew damn well the information was correct, and I kept saying to him, "I think you have pulled up the wrong account. Are you sure you're looking at #--------------?" Of course after 30 minutes of this he finally goes, "Oh, I have the wrong account open." Seriously, dude?!

I went out and purchased a specific chair for work, but my cubicle used to be a visitor's space. The other day, an IT guy just plopped down and started working in my cube. Today, I came in, someone had taken my chair. Didn't leave a note. I walked around to find it in the other visitor's cubicle. Don't steal a man's chair. That's cold. Clearly there's enough shit in my cube now that people HAVE to know someone works in there.

Either way, my boss staked me a claim on his old desk with a skylight after the intern leaves.

today was full of annoyances

I'm pretty sure I got hired so people in my department can defer getting trained on software or how to use a computer in general. Its amazing how little people know about using a computer.

I get called like ever 10 minutes to show someone how to save a fucking file on MS Office.

Today my boss needed instructions on how to input some avails into our system, and so he told all the divisions that he would send them out so they'd know how to do it too. Well he quickly came to my cube and was like ERICA WILL DO IT...Just take some screen shots of each process and create an instruction sheet real fast, there's nothing to it.

Knowing he has no clue how to do that

Coworker calls me up yesterday to talk about a brand new product area...sounds pretty awesome, so I'm in. He wants to work on Sunday, which is fine because I'm going in anyway.

I call him up today to talk about it a bit more and arrange work, and he randomly drops that he just broke up with his girlfriend. Long relationship, live-in, she is taking it hard, he isn't but feels odd that he doesn't....and we're still on to work.

This is gonna be fun, I'm sure.

So evidently we are not allowed to take computers to the building across the road on a cart, because one got damaged that way once. News to me. We have to call receiving to come take them over. Less work for me, I suppose, but kind of annoying to have to coordinate with another unit just to deliver 4 desktops to a building 200 yards away.

Considering the alternative is to carry each one individually, though (we're allowed to do that), I'll deal with it.

Having to remember several logins/passwords with no parallels among their construction or expiration dates.

The login for one thing is first and last name, first initial last name and the number two for another, ncw and my employee number for the gradiing system, and a completely meaningless ten-digit number for the teacher evaluation system. They all have unique passwords that require different levels of unhackability or whatever. Even when I get them synced up on the same password, they expire at different times or get abandoned completely for new software.

Building an awesome lego structure and never being able to finish without someone adding something to it or asking for it.

Also, never being able to pick up a toy without someone either just trying to snatch it from me or begging for it.

can't open autocad at all... crashes every time. tried everything I know how to do and I'm getting no where. why we still use an outdated and unsupported version blows my mind. it's not like we don't have newer versions... were have every version from 2007 up. So why must this project stay in 2009? 2010 is much better and more stable, and for me, it actually works. we can save files up to 2010 so it's hassle free. and it will get rid of errors for those who have accidentally used 2010 on these files and saved.

I have to share my science classroom with a spanish teacher during my planning period. First of all, it is a science classroom so a non-science class really has no business being in the room because the teacher is not aware of safety procedures and things like that (labs and things have to be set up during her class... there would be no time to set them up during the 5 minute break between classes)

Well, this teacher gets on my nerves like no other... here are a few things she has done in the 2 weeks since this semester has begun:

1. She used a fucking permanent marker and wrote all over the whiteboard because she couldn't find a dry erase... i spent 10 minutes scrubbing it off before i could teach the next period.

2. I tape my roll sheets to my front desk/lab table I teach from so I can keep track of my seating chart, attendance, bathroom visits, etc... well she spilled some sort of coffee drink ALL OVER my fucking roll sheets AND DIDN'T BOTHER TO CLEAN IT UP

3. She is in here during first period, so she comes in before school... well she fucking SINGS in spanish to herself. That is NOT what I want to hear every day at 6:55 in the morning.
