David Glenn reads NC State message board to find some crazy post to harp on, State fans listen and get annoyed and write crazy posts in response to what he has to say, the cycle continues...

Hell yes they would, they have to. I am pretty sure if they happened to win a NC and were then post season banned, people would burn down the NCAA building.

that. and they might also know that at this point, roy losing his job is inevitable. and when that happens, toe the line of "well, if we really thought he was complicit, we wouldn't have extended his contract". basically publically reinforcing his innocence even though they know full well why he is being forced out.

haha I wonder how much a major network would pay Roy for an exclusive "coming clean" interview where he exposes UNC and everyone else he knows about in college hoops.

I'd would post on here that Roy was a good person if he did, that should be enough right there.

LOL:

Quote :
"“Occasionally when we have a number of people with special issues we can put them together in a special section but we never ever put an athlete into a special section alone – just too many red flags and we have a little bit of academic credibility to try to uphold, Crowder wrote back. “All of that being said, talk to me and we’ll see if there are any creative options.”"

Quote :
"“You know you two are some of my favorites – I am sitting here staring at two ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL papers for AFAM,” she wrote. “I don’t know who copied from whom, or more likely, where both of you got the paper. I need new papers from both of you by the end of next week. Pick a particular African American woman, not Oprah"

Quote :
"“Have you gotten (redacted) in a 2nd session class? If so, is it an online class? Don’t think so - probably one of your infamous ‘paper courses.’ Let me know,” Herman wrote.

Don’t knock what gets it done,” Blanton replied. “I saw her today, so I should get her registered today.”

“So it IS a ‘paper course’? :-)” Herman responded.

“I’m not saying it is,” Blanton responded, “and I’m not saying it isn’t.”"

Also have yall looked at this comparison to other academic fraud cases?

Quote :
"Harrick Jr. fraudulently awarded A’s to three basketball players in a course he was teaching, “Coaching Principles and Strategies of Basketball.” The NCAA described it as “a sham class.” One player never went to class, while the other two attended a few times. None took a final exam. The NCAA put the Georgia basketball team on probation for four years and cut back on scholarships."

A's to three basketball players... 4 year post season ban, FOUR YEARS!!

Also those emails were posted in this thread dozens of pages ago when the Wainstein Report was released. Fyi.

[Edited on June 5, 2015 at 4:33 PM. Reason : but i'm glad they're in the news again ]

also heard some UNC guy from 247sports on Marty Hurney's show today...total homer...kept referring to the systemic cheating as "issues" and towing the line about how bball and football are fine since Roy and Fedora weren't named...how it's so unfair to the current kids who had nothing to do with it...and that UNC has been so cooperative and put so many new procedures and safeguards in place...and that of course all the people responsible had been fired, so hey, it's pretty much over, RIP womens bball

from the comments in ^that artice:

Quote :
"Thanks for posting Art, it takes a lot of courage to show up again after your horribly inaccurate piece earlier in the week. Every post you make is a perfect metaphor representing a sad dying light from the old guard refusing to believe the Carolina Way was all a lie. Clearly, you're not the insider you'd like to think you are...just another overly optimistic die-hard UNC fan teeing up the best-you-can-hope for outcomes ending this incredible mess. Your musings are nothing more than elongated IC posts...they're so unprofessional, you can't even pay an editor to proof-read the work: "Sure, UNC has to treat it was the utmost of respect"...an 8th grade English teacher would take off 5 points for sloppy work.

At best, you've faded to a UNC PR subsidized zoo primate, backed into a corner and slinging feces at every adjacent wall hoping it will stick. Give you props for getting off the mat despite countless left hooks knocking you down repeatedly but at what point will you do the right thing and stay down? The Golden Age of UNC athletics is over...the Enola Gay flew away from Chapel Hill yesterday leaving a mushroom cloud; rebuilding after the nuclear winter sets in simply won't happen in your lifetime. Carolina is going to get hammered, no matter how you try to pick apart the NOA. Likely not what is actually deserved but you should plan to rent a time share somewhere next March and don't worry if it has satellite TV; UNC won't be playing after the regular season ends."

epic.

On another note I just learned some basic grammar rules:

Quote :
"
Comma Before But

A comma should be placed before the word but only if but is at the beginning of an independent clause.

I would go for a walk, but for the rain.

In this sentence, but is being used to mean except. Because but isn’t starting an independent clause, the comma isn’t required.

The dog is young, but well-trained.

Grammar is boring, but necessary.

I would go for a walk, but it’s raining outside.

Because it’s at the beginning of an independent clause, the comma before but is necessary.

The dog is young, but he’s well-trained.

Grammar is boring, but it’s necessary.

It's amazing how delusional UNC fans still are. They can hold on to the thought that the NCAA probably won't take their banners down, but that's about it. LOIC is no bullshit, and regardless of how they want to parse the NOA, it's an acknowledgment by the NCAA of deliberate cheating for the benefit of athletics. When it comes to administering penalties against the athletics program, the COI only cares about who benefited and for how long.

They would sacrifice every other sport on campus to save men's bball, and probably most of the academic programs too.

Someone help me out here. I've heard a resurgence of the excuse that the bogus classes were okay (or at least not as bad as some people want to make it out to be) because the general student body had access to the same classes.

Is it okay to set up an entire department to help keep athletes eligible as long as you let a few non-athletes in? See, it wasn't just our athletes, totally legit. Hell, change the percentage to 90% non-athlete, 10% athlete. Would it be okay then?

Besides, it was independent study, right? Who's to say that the athletes are even graded the same as the non-athletes?

Admittedly I only skimmed the NOA but even that hints at this conclusion. They took a 10 athletes took more than 12 hours of independent study angle as opposed to the more obvious hundreds of athletes were kept eligible through fake independent study classes... even if it was just one.

It only matter because that's how the NCAA decided to play it -- "impermissible benefits" that were given to athletes not available to other students.

However, it's bullshit that all the classes were available to other students. There were instances of paper classes appearing out of thin air days before the semester started that were immediately 100% filled with all athletes, all with paper trails that lead back to the ASPSA making the request for athletes in immediate danger of losing eligibility.

This is straight out of the UNC PR machine's mouth, and is completely false. As far as I know, the NCAA is staying away from the subject of whether or not the classes were legit, but rather classifying this all as impermissible benefits to the athletes themselves. That non-athletes were in them is a non-issue.

I find it a little odd that the NCAA considers the fake classes as benefits

But since they do, and plenty of athletes took the classes, which should technically make them ineligible, I definitely see some vacacted seasons. Probably like 2006-2008 and 2010-2011 or something convenient.

At least Roy's record against NC State won't be as lopsided.

The company line I hear tossed around about "not just being for athletes" really falls apart when you mention that trainers, assistants, and managers were not classified as athletes. How much are they going to sacrifice to keep two banners?

My favorite line on ic right now is when some nitwit says "10 athletes over 18 years?? That's it??" Like that's just a normal day at the park. I wonder if they realize that every game played with an ineligible player is a forfeit.

so according to dudes at PP, UNC posted some pics from football camp yesterday that included at least one current player facing off against at least one recruit, which is apparently against NCAA rules. a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of this, but you would think they would try to be more careful at some point.
