I'm again looking to sell my Kahr P9; it's in great working condition and I keep it well cleaned. Small and great for concealed carry. Comes with two magazines, original manual, and hard case. Asking $475.
I won't have a chance to make it to the gun show this weekend, fyi, so plz no "sell it at the gun show!" responses.
Thanks!

Troodat. You have to know what things are worth or it's easy to pay too much at the Raleigh gun show.
I went to a gun show in Texas and it blew the Raleigh show out of the water. Bigger venue. More gun dealers and fewer tchotchke dealers. Better prices. Fewer sketchy undesirables. Lots of cops but they're there buying for their own gun collections.

^ I thought it kind of sucked, personally, since it seemed there were a lot of empty spaces where booths used to be. That and the usual $200 markup on the most inane shit. I'm going to pay 650 for a mid length upper when Pete @ Legal Transfers can get me one for 434 shipped? Right on, buddy, keep looking for the mentally challenged.
I did get to handle a couple S&W .22s that I was considering buying from CDNN, which made the decision for me, they felt nice.
Bought a couple of DigiLight replacement lamps, MagPul baseplates, picked up some Georgia Arms ammo on the recommendations of a lot of you.. looking forward to trying it out. I was a little concerned at the 115gr .40 "+p" they had listed, as there is no such thing. 5/6/2007 11:09:19 PM |

Thunder, they had .40 +p? That's odd. Odd and maybe a bit scary actually. Anyway, is cdnn still selling the handguns? I haven't found a straight answer yet. They pulled the handguns from their latest catalog and I've heard that they quit and that they still are but just not advertising. I'm still waiting to get an email back from them. 5/7/2007 12:03:04 AM |

From what I've read, it's a corrupted file on the download link, but some enterprising retards at CDNN decided to bullshit the first few people that called, instead of asking what was really going on. Everyone that's called CDNN at GlockTalk has gotten a positive response about them continuing to sell handguns.
If you look at the download, it's missing about 40 pages.
I seriously hope that fucking rimjob that said CDNN was going to stop selling handguns because of Va Tech gets beaten severely about the head and shoulders.
I have a fully supported chamber in my Steyr, but I'm not about to try to imitate Glock's patented Grenade Action!™ with some .40 +p 5/7/2007 10:11:56 AM |

Suggestions for a new (first) pistol?
I've shot a Glock .45 and Sig .45, courtesy of gunguy
Liked both but felt like a .45 is a bit much for just target shooting
Maybe a 9mm or .40 would be more appropriate
I like how the SW99 looks but I've never shot one 5/7/2007 1:27:17 PM |

a 9mm is a good round for cheap shooting and its got take down power maybe not like a 40 or 45 but not many people can take 1 and still come at you 5/7/2007 4:25:25 PM |

a 40 isn't that much more expensive
and does a damn good job
better yet, buy a .357 glock for carry, and put a .40 bbl on it for targets
(I bought 1k rounds of .357 sig ammo for 200) 5/7/2007 4:51:20 PM |

^^ i got freinds that are cops and have seen ppl take more than 10 rds or 9MM and walk to the ambulance. it's does not have the knock down power of larger rounds but if good rounds (high end JHP) are used they can be effective. 5/7/2007 5:07:40 PM |
Stonerman All American 672 Posts user info edit post |
Just my $.02, but if the folks that shot them could shoot worth a damn, it'd only take 3. A ranking marine was asked by a reporter why they didn't upgrade their Berretta 92's (9mm) to a higher caliber round, since all the civilian police departments were doing it for the "knock down power". He said, "I don't care what you shoot. One to the head and 2 to chest and you're going down."
A well shot .22 could do the same.
I'm a proponent for the 9mm simply because it's lighter, you can carry more in the field, and it can be used effectively when shot correctly. Then again, I probably shoot more than most LEOs...
Don't get me wrong, I love my .40 and .357... LOVE my .40 cal... But for ccp with backup mags I can put more holes in the right places, which trumps bigger holes in the wrong places... With a slightly smaller "foot print" on my person.

but if you're talking full size and mis size pistols, it makes no sense to choose the 9 over the 40 or 357.
the ammo difference in size and weight is minute, you can still stuff 15 in a .40 or .357 cal glock
but the difference it makes when it hits the target is dramatic
bullet energy also does the "stopping" damage, something that you can only get with the right 9mm rounds
I love shooting my 9mm, but given the same size pistol, I'll take the .40 or the .357 sig over it any day of the week.
the cost isn't that much different nowadays either 5/7/2007 5:52:47 PM |

I agree pwrstrk... To an extent.... That extent being that I have recently reloaded about 1,000 rnds of .40 at a fraction of the cost of buying new 9 or .40. The penetration and round expansion of the .40 is definitely something to consider. But again, for CCP, I'd go 9mm for it's size and capability, plus you can potentially pack an extra 2rnds in the mag. depending on the pistol. If I was pushed to decide my "favorite pistol/round", I'd go with my .40cal XD hands down. If I had it in sub-compact I may reconsider for concealed carry. I guess I have to get one now to decide

In my limited experience with them they suck for the most part with the exception of their PT-92. They bought the PT-92 tools from Beretta when their contract with the Brazilian military ran out and they seem pretty solid.
A friend of mine has a Taurus 9mm with fixed sights that shoots 10" to the left at 10'. Another friend of mine had one and the barrel was defective. He said the only good thing he had to say about them was that their warranty support was at least good. I just keep hearing more bad things than good about them.5/8/2007 5:30:53 PM |

you must be a resident for.....30 days? I can't remember but somewhere between 30-90 days.
As for Taurus, from what I have *read*, they're quality control is getting better. There for a while it was horrible according to the wonderful, always honest, internet. I did own a PT1911 for all of a week or so. No problems with it through 250-ish rounds. However, I won't buy any other Taurus anytime soon.
As for Davi's, they really do kind of suck. There are some really nice people there that don't mind you wasting their time. I took my roommate to try to find his next gun there (he had very little experience). We told the guy (David I think) that he wasn't buying today but wanted to look at stuff. 2 hours later we walked out after him looking at about 15 different guns. Then we went to Lawmen's to buy the one he liked. I don't really care for PDHSC for purchasing either simply because it's hard to get someone to help you. They seem to have some of the nicest, most helpful people but I rarely get them. I usually get one of the older guys that's too lazy to get out of his chair usually and will barely answer questions. I typically buy from Lawmens or Zebulon Pawn (Jim is a great guy and hooks me up. I pay more but it's one of those "support your local gun shop" things).
As for the gun, what have you looked at? You mention the Glock and Taurus, what else? I'd look at the Glock 19. I won't be much harder to shoot than the 17 but will be a lot more practical for a gun that you may end up carrying. Same goes for a Springfield XD9. Take a look at Sigs also. You can get Sig CPO (certified pre-owned) for about the same price as the Glock and they are, imho, a much nicer gun. 5/8/2007 10:48:09 PM |

I've shot two different 40's, the glock and the sig
today i shot a 9mm glock (model 17) and the glock 40 (maybe model 22 or 23?)
Im tryin to limit myself as far as price goes......i know sigs are fantastic firearms and so are h&k....but for the money, i like glocks
im still researching and seeing whats out there though
the taurus was asthetically pleasing and very comfortable to hold....but with quality its hard to go wrong with a glock, sig or beretta. 5/8/2007 11:14:44 PM |
dave421 All American 1391 Posts user info edit post |
The CPO Sigs are MUCH cheaper than your new Sigs. I bought mine w/4 mags for $500. Most places around here run about the same for Glocks. CPOs are used but sent back to Sig where they are refinished if needed and checked out completely. Any parts that are damaged or worn out are replaced etc. etc. etc. Basically it's a new Sig that might have some holster wear and stuff. Mine was an 89 model that had been completely updated, refinished, new springs, and it *appeared* that it was a new barrel as well.
As for the Glocks, it is kinda hard to go wrong with them. My every day carry is now a Glock 26 and I'm planning on adding 3 more (21SF, 30, & 17L or 34 and I might throw a 19 in as well). I'm not a fan of .40, 10mm, or .357 so... (premature arthritis makes them un-fun).
What kind of budget have you put on it? If you can throw a number out, I'm sure we can make some more specific recommendations for you to look at. 5/9/2007 1:42:52 AM |

P.S. anybody got a .380? I've got some left over ammo from my Kel-tec that I have no need for. I think it's 25 rounds or so and I *think* it's Federal.....JHP. I can't remember what their PD ammo is. Anyway, I live in Knightdale and work in Apex so if anybody wants it, you can meet me somewhere between.
To make it fair, the first "I'll take it" from someone willing to meet me on my way to and from can have it.

Is your dislike for .40 solely predicated on recoil pulse? 'cause I have a .40 that I think would work with that very well.

In truth, I dont really want a 45 or 40....they just seemed like overkill for recreational use
obviously for home defense they pack a hell of a lot more than a 9mm.....but the 9mm was more fun to shoot
I think i shot the 17 and the 17L at Davis.....one of them had a ported slide....not the actually barrel, but damn when it went off in the dark, it blinded you.

Thunder, you can have them. apparently 14 rounds of Hydrashock. anyway, you'll have pm in a minute with my number. and don't worry, there aren't any .380s around so it won't get shot up.
As to the .40, I don't like the cost or the recoil. I like the balistics but not enough to switch back to it. I'm happy with 9mm and .45 and my shot placement.
Lobes, you shot the 17 and 17C. The "C" models are ported slides. The 17L is an extended slide that's otherwise stock. The 34 is slightly extended (between 17 & 17L) with porting & lighter trigger if I recall correctly.

Taurus will probably be cheaper. It's extremely likely that the Glock will be "better". Glock parts & accessories are cheaper and easier to find. They tend to last longer as well. The Taurus isn't a bad gun, it's just not quite as high quality as a glock, springfield, etc. from what I've seen. Which one did you shoot better?
Also, check prices at cdnninvestments.com (you'll have to download their catalog if it's working correctly again). With the prices on guns around here, you can quite possibly find it cheaper there even after shipping and ffl fee. 5/10/2007 8:30:17 PM |
