look at it another way: why is the gun industry special that it should have protections that no other industries have?

Are we still seriously having a discussion about bump stocks and whether they should be legal?

People will always find ways around laws, sure, and with 3D printing, I assume it would be pretty easy to make your own bump stock. But this one seems like a no-brainer. What other uses do they have other than to rapid fire?

I know someone with a binary trigger. Those are crazy to me as well, and I'm really not sure how those are legal. And I think the term is binary, but I'm not 100% sure. It's the mechanism where it fires on the pull and the release.

The officer who found the note implied he knew what the numbers meant right away on 60 minutes last night. Yet another detail that was omitted for about a week before being suddenly released. The selective slow drip of key details is very suspicious. All I'm saying is they should be more transparent.

yes, i don't understand why i'm not personally emailed investigation updates every hours that include any evidence even evidence that might be sensitive for an open investigation.

i mean, obviously something is up, i've even provided my fax number but have received nothing.

That is cute but I'm not talking about the frequency of the updates. I'm talking about a lie of omission. They released details about the room, knew about the note, and omitted the note. At this rate, they could come out 3 weeks from now and say they found a 2nd shooter that night and you wouldn't have a problem with it.

I don't think the firearms industry should have special protections, but I also don't think that activist judges should allow frivolous lawsuits.

May have a motive

Quote :
"SAN DIEGO -- A San Diego taco shop owner and his wife were staying in a hotel room right below the Las Vegas suite where gunman Stephen Paddock fired shots at a country music festival Sunday night, according to KSWB.

It was only after the deadly shooting that Albert Garzon and his wife Jessica discovered they had not only been staying in the Mandalay Bay hotel room directly below the shooter but that they’d annoyed him just hours before the concert.

"Just got back to our room and look at that, that’s the room that he was shooting out of, that’s the curtain that’s coming out of the guy’s room. He was right above us, shooting down on the concert," said Albert, showing cell phone video he recorded after guests were allowed to return to the hotel.

He says it was then that he realized it was the shooter who had complained to hotel security about noise coming from his room just hours before the concert.

"We’re all playing the music and then security came up to our room and said, 'hey, you have a guest right above you that’s complaining that you’re being too loud.' And out of respect, I didn’t think twice about it. I just said, 'yeah no problem, we’ll turn the music down.' And then probably another half an hour later, another group of security guys came up and said, 'hey bud, this is your second time, you have a guest above you who’s complaining again, so we got to ask you to turn it down. The third time we come, then your guests are going to have to leave. Obviously, you and your wife can stay.' None of us would have ever thought that there was that guy directly right above us," said Albert.

Following that encounter, the group headed down to the concert. Once there, the taco shop owner had what he describes as a bad feeling and left the music festival, leaving his wife and friends. He was making his way to the 31st floor when the shots rang out from the 32nd floor"

https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/06/las-vegas-gunman-earned-millions-as-a-gambler-nbc.html

Paddock supposedly hopped around from Nevada to Texas to Florida continuously, seemed to exclusively play video poker (glorifed slot machines), and filed tax returns claiming he earned $5 million in 2015 from gambling? I'd like to know what or who he was laundering money for.

Yes, but video poker takes out the human uncertainty of the other players. It's probably the most beatable/safest play in a casino if you know what you're doing.

has CNN provided a readable copy of the 97 page deposition of Paddock from 2013 yet, or are they just dribbling out snippets of the document?

List of lies (so far)
1. Security guard was shot before the shooting
2. Note in hotel room had bullet drop calculations

You can't just change your story a week later.

Is this how you usually deal with someone lying to you? Dismiss it unless you know of a specific motive?

I have no idea whats going on thats the point. We can't trust the only source of information. Keep in mind, the eyewitnesses had different accounts of what happened.

Usually, police lie to cover their own asses if an officer made a mistake or fucked up some kind of way but thats just speculation without the information they are still hiding.

i attribute it to mistakes made when either gathering, analyzing, or disseminating information through imprecise channels as quickly as possible

which is ok with me because 100% accuracy is not a reasonable goal

I saw on CNN the video of him "slipping and falling" at a casino, i guess he sued and that's where the new transcript came from? Here's the video:

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but we are certainly not being given all the pertinent facts. There is much more to this than some 64 year old rich dude finally snapped and nobody knew anything. It just doesn't happen. If he was 24 years old, I'd buy it that he did it and probably had mental issues, but the profile doesn't fit at all in this case. No verified ideological affiliations, no religious affiliation, and certainly seemed to be living an enjoyable life based on the description thus far. I don't know if there's some grand conspiracy here, but no way in hell I believe the dude just snapped. He didn't even have a criminal record.

The fact he shot the security guard 6 minutes before he began shooting certainly throws things out of whack. It explains why the police were able to locate the guy as quickly as they did I suppose. From what I read the alarm he was investigating was in another room though so doesn't explain why he shot the security guard from inside his room? Also if he was willing to do that doesn't exactly explain why he shot himself rather than just having it out with police at the end.

This was clearly something planned out in advance so not just some rage shooting because the guy decided to rage for some reason. To plan something like this out in advance to kill innocent people there has to be some motivation for that. Just a strange story all around.

Based on what little I listened to from the new transcript that was released, from his own words, he sounds like an egotistical jerk... possibly a sociopath. He talked about how he was "The best video poke player in the world". When asked how he came to that conclusion, he said something like "I play 14 hours a day, 365 days a year...." He was also mad that casinos stopped giving high-rollers lots of freebies. (not that any of that begins to explain his actions)

^^^ I would tend to agree more if the shooter was still at large, but maybe they are withholding info because they haven't been able to determine if others were involved in the plot. I think that's definitely possible. The way it comes across is that they believe he acted alone and with no apparent motive. Which begs the question, what did you see in the surveillance tapes? Why has nobody at least mentioned what's on the tapes? If you've got your guy and he's dead, just tell us what was on the tapes.

^but a sociopath that commits mass murder with no violent past? Just doesn't seem like his MO.

It also kinda seems like investigators are letting public interest die down. Eventually we'll have a hurricane or some other disaster and people will lose interest in this story. Then the only people who are still asking questions will be "crazy conspiracy theorists" on message boards. I think we likely know all we are going to know.

Yeh but how many of those times do we have 64 years worth of history? It's typically somebody fresh out of their teens.

All I'm saying is that there's a science in criminal profiling that works to catch bad guys, and this one flies in the face of all of it.
