i know that BC thing is all tongue in cheek, so why nitpick...but...
Quote : | "Now, this is a school that has had a lot of history in the ACC, and some very big moments the past decade, including being named the “Dark Horse of the Conference” 10 times in a row by ESPN! " |
i don't remember this being the case...but i've heard a similar comment from other places too. last year there was hype around us, in Jacoby Brissett's senior season there was also some hype/darkhorse stuff. but aside from that, i'm not remembering much.
Quote : | "And finally, there is John Edwards, who politics aside had an affair while his wife was battling cancer. Oof." |
i mean...yeah john edwards is a piece of shit. but he was (is?) a regular at UNC basketball games and went there for law school. so i feel like they could've come up with a better one there. lazy, imo.
Quote : | "But if that means the Wolfpack faithful get to watch a bunch of freshmen and sophomores try and arm tackle AJ Dillon for 4 quarters, I am totally on board for that, because NC State? We hate you." |
by a rough count our DL should start 2 seniors and at least 1 junior. LBs will start 1 senior and probably 1 sophomore. DBs will have 4 juniors and possibly a senior (or a sophomore). so...the D could be shitty (or maybe it won't be!), but it won't be a buncha freshmen and sophomores.7/23/2018 12:30:15 PM |

Maybe people in Boston cant tell us apart from unc.. I remember them being a "dark horse" a few years ago. Maybe it's gone back and forth and they're confused. Anyway, I could definitely see BC losing 7-8 games, or winning like 8-9 games. Seems like their most winnable conference games are on the road (@wake, @state, @fsu, @vt) and their home slate is pretty tough (Lou, Clem, Cuse, Mia). Lotta mediocrity in there I guess 7/23/2018 11:20:38 PM |

Also this is funny
Quote : | "Clearly NC State’s biggest moment against Boston College was snatching the Notorious Tom O’Brien away from the Eagles. How did that work out? He went 40-36, and 22-26 in conference. His shining moment was telling Russell Wilson he had no room on the roster for him because he needed to give the reigns to Mike Glennon and forced the Pro Bowl QB to transfer to Wisconsin where he promptly broke the record for best passer rating in a season, and almost won the Rose Bowl by himself. That is like passing up on the opportunity to direct George Clooney so that you can work with Kevin James. Congratulations on that one, you really stuck it to the Eagles. " |

maybe i'm your buddy and it's my wedding that you are going to instead of the game. if so, i'm sorry but also it's cool if you don't come to my wedding...i won't be mad.
we had to set the date for the venue prior to the schedule coming out. i knew there was a good likelihood of it being a conference game in October. but it seems like we usually play on the road with the state fair in town, so there's a good chance it wasn't gonna be a home game. and the UNC game has been the last game of the year lately, so i knew it wouldn't be that game. and because of playing on the road a lot in October and the state fair, it seems like we usually have a bye in October. so i was hoping we'd get lucky and get a bye game or something like the @Syracuse game that week. oh well. i'm not too upset about it. win or lose, i'll know the result and not have to stress for 4 hours while watching the game.

Sorry if it's been said already in this thread, but this looks like one of the friendliest schedules imaginable. We go to Clemson (which is fine because we'd probably lose to them at home anyway), then the next week Clemson has to travel to FSU, and then the week after that FSU comes to us. We play the weakest possible pair of Coastal opponents and we're not traveling to Wake Forest where we typically shut the bed.
The roster feels lacking after so many great players leaving at the end of last year, but I think it's still good enough with this schedule to give us a better chance to take the division than before. If we can win two games out of Clemson, FSU, and Louisville, sweeping the rest of the schedule is well within the realm of possibility.
Am I being too optimistic? 8/10/2018 5:20:17 PM |
dmspack oh we back 25532 Posts user info edit post |
You’re not being too optimistic imo. Here’s the downside. The Atlantic is really good and the bottom dwellers are getting better. BC should be strong, Cuse with a healthy Eric Dungey is not an easy out on the road, Wake lost Wolford but if they get good QB play could be really solid. There’s no real pushover in the division. We do get a break with UVA in the Coastal. And WVU is gonna be tough. And @Marshall is a little worrisome...we should beat them, but it’s on the road and they return a lot from a team that was solid last year.
Optimistically we can go 9-3. Or we could go 6-6. 8/10/2018 6:32:55 PM |
LudaChris All American 7946 Posts user info edit post |
^^Honestly? Yes.
Last year we had a very favorable ACC schedule too(2 weakest Coastal teams, home game against CU and UL, etc), though this year it seems that we have an overall easier OOC schedule(USC + ND > WVU + Marshall).
Even if we only dropped @Clemson this year, winning the Atlantic would still be a long-shot. We'd essentially be where we were last year, but instead of Clemson going 7-1 and us going 6-2, we'd go 7-1 and have to hope they lose 2 games(tie-breaker). Clemson isn't losing 2 ACC games this year barring a significant rash of injuries(hell even going down a QB isn't going to deflate that team).
It's likely that the only way to win the Atlantic is to actually beat Clemson, and given their talent/experience and homefield advantage, I just don't see it giving all of the pieces we lost. I think our team is going to be a bit clunky early on and find it's stride eventually.
Still feels like 7-8 wins is the goal this year, and anything over that is icing on the cake, anything under that would be very disappointing. 8/13/2018 9:48:17 AM |

That made me wonder what Shadrach was up to these days
https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/arena/rattlers/2018/03/30/rattlers-rb-shadrach-thornton-revives-football-career-after-series-setbacks/474616002/
Quote : | "Thorton hoping to revive career
It starts with the name: Shadrach.
When he was born 24 years ago in Louisiana, his father yelled, "Shadrach!"
"It scared the doctor," Rattlers running back Shadrach Thornton said. "It was like some kind of prophecy. It was craziness."
It is a name his mom found in the Old Testament, the Babylonian god of the moon who was cast into a fiery furnace but saved by God, according to its origin.
"I can't say I haven't been living up to my name," Thornton said. "I put myself in the furnace more than once."
Shadrach (pronounced Shad-rack) Thornton looked destined for the NFL coming out of a Georgia high school, his life appearing back on track at North Carolina State after rushing for 907 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior in 2014. Then, after serving a two-game suspension to start his senior year, he had 203 yards in his first two games before it all abruptly ended in early October, 2015.
He was dismissed from the team after being arrested for his involvement in a moped accident. He reportedly struck a pedestrian and was charged with failure to stop and help and give information. He also reportedly was charged with operating the motor vehicle on a sidewalk and not having it registered.
This wasn't his first clash with the law.
After rushing for 694 yards his freshman year, he was reportedly arrested on a misdemeanor assault of a female the summer before his sophomore season.
According to The News & Observer, he received deferred prosecution for the incident from the Wake County courts. A misdemeanor marijuana possession charge in December of 2013 was dismissed, according to the paper.
Since leaving the North Carolina State football program, Thornton has tried to get back on the field.
He participated in the 2016 NFL combine in Indianapolis, where his 4.75-second 40-yard dash didn't win over any NFL personnel. He went undrafted, signed with the Oakland Raiders as a free agent but was released. He went to Canada to play for the Ottawa Redblacks in the Canadian Football League.
But he was released by them, finding himself working in a grocery store, still holding on to hope of playing again, keeping himself ready.
His chance has come this season in the obscure Indoor Football League, becoming the starting tailback for the Rattlers two games ago, and making the most of his chance. He has rushed for nearly 90 yards in each of the Rattlers' last two games. He had three rushing touchdowns in the first half of last week's 62-49 win over the Nebraska Danger, finishing with 86 yards on 15 carries.
Thornton says he is now in the best place he has been – mentally, spiritually, physically.
"It's radiating," he said. "I can feel it surging through my teammates. That's the type of change I want to create, not just for my teammates, but for the community."
Thornton believes he has grown from the wrong choices he made in life, how he allowed himself to give into temptation.
"College was a big thing, not truly understanding body control, how to handle those different emotions that we feel going through college, classes, girlfriends," he said. "I'm from Section 8. On top of that, you worried about your mom back home. I've got a daughter who is now 6. There are a lot of things you have to learn how to manage."
Thornton wishes he could do the NFL combine now because of the better place he feels he is in.
"At the combine, I didn't work on the 40," he said. "If somebody told me to run the 40 right now, I could give them a solid 4.4 or high 4.3. I can feel it.
"When I was training for the combine, it was all on me. I wasn't committed to myself. If you're not committed to yourself, how do you expect NFL teams to commit to you? A big thing for me was buying into myself. I would say I was writing my goals down, but I wasn't. I was selling lies. I was a con man to myself. Who was I conning? Myself. Not anymore. When I go home, I stretch. I watch TV. I focus on doing two things at once."
Thornton felt he was too complacent in Canada, and, after being released by the CFL team, he started working at a grocery store.
"I'm in the back, in the milk, dairy department," he said. "I'm back there re-evaluating my life. There are people back there googling me. They say, 'Man, you were a beast on the field. Why are you back here with us?'
"I'm kind of embarrassed. They see the talent and I'm wasting it."
He also started catching eggs.
"I would open up the eggs, I would throw them 20 feet in the air, catch them," he said. "I would do 10 with the right (hand) and 10 with the left. Make stuff fun. I had to move milk crates. I'm in the back working my back with milk crates. Just in case."
The Rattlers called. And Thornton showed up, ready.
"Any opportunity is a great opportunity," Thornton said. "It's a championship team. I'm fortunate to be here."" |
