Motherfucker waited 4 years? I remember him publishing an editorial in the N&O barely a week after the report, defending his stand that it was an academic scandal. lol

This is kinda weird. PJ Hairston's mom is seeking funds for a speaking tour about UNC and the NCAA:

Nothing new. UNC has to go before the Committee on Infractions and plead their case, potentially involving self imposed sanctions. Then the NCAA will dole out its punishment. IIRC, the COI meeting is maybe the end of this month or sometime kinda soon?

I think we should get some news by 8/18 (next Tuesday). I believe that's 90 days from when they said they would have to submit a response.

So tomorrow I expect Tom Brady to get in a fist fight with Roger Goodell, all caught on camera WSHH style, then UNC to quietly release their report about 5:30pm.

If they had any sort of integrity over there they would go ahead and post season ban every sport involved voluntarily for this coming year just as a start to the shit storm they deserve.

One of the items is connected with Wainstein Report discoveries, according to sources, while the other is unrelated to the current NCAA investigation and has to do with an Olympic sport"

just in case nobody clicked the link.

also, could've sworn i clicked that link earlier and it explicitly said that a source indicated it did not involve men's bball or football. that sentence has either been completely deleted or altered to the "olympic sport" sentence.

I wonder if UNC will argue that their self-reporting of Women's Basketball infractions should reduce the punishment that the Men's Basketball team would receive.

Based on everything they have done up until this point I wouldn't doubt this done simply to delay things until after basketball season to give them one more chance at a title before everything gets blown up. Should the NCAA come down hard you would assume even just public outcry would cause them to post season ban this year.

"The school announced Friday the response, due next week to the NCAA, has been delayed. Schools officials say the NCAA will set a new date after a review of the new information.

A release from UNC says officials were preparing to release emails from former U.S. Justice Department official Kenneth Wainstein's eight-month investigation when it uncovered more examples of possible improper academic assistance of women's basketball players.

It also discovered potential recruiting violations over two years in men's soccer that were unrelated to the current NCAA probe.

Under NCAA procedures, if those are determined to be Level I or II violations, the notice of allegations must be amended to include them.

It is unclear exactly when the new possible violations were discovered. The school says they were reported to the NCAA's committee on infractions on Aug. 10.

Athletic director Bubba Cunningham still hopes the investigation will be resolved in spring 2016."

This is such bullshit. They're just pushing it back so their 2016 basketball season is completely untouchable and scapegoating Women's basketball even further, with a little soccer for good measure. And they reported it on August 10th - like they just happened to discover the violations a week beforehand.

I hope the folks at the NCAA are getting pissed by these delay tactics and it just makes it worse.

They're mortgaging the next half decade of athletics just to try and cut down the nets in April 2016. Which they won't do, btw.

Roy is TOBing their recruiting anyway. Good stuff.

I sifted through the garbage on PP but there's nothing there we don't already know / can't infer from the article. I'm waiting for Manalishi to post something. He hasn't been on since this article was released.

Here's where you can find his recent posts:

If you don't know, this guy has been spot on with pretty much everything he's said on there.

Chansky chimes in again. Ugh. Going to just repost so you don't have to click it:

Quote :
"Will the Wainstein Report ever go away? Not looking like it.

For the media and all those ABC fans, the Wainstein Report is the gift that keeps on giving. That one last independent probe into the academic scandal, which the Board of Governors and Chancellor believed we needed, traded transparency for protection of the university’s image and brand. Needless, I say, because what was broken had already been fixed.

Beyond the 131-page document that was bound neatly, released to the media and sent off the to the NCAA, which re-opened its investigation, were more than 1200 pages of interviews conducted that are still public documents being sought by the News and Observer and other public records requestors. Bubba Cunningham said Friday that those are related to millions of other documents, presumably mostly emails, that the university has to pour through in order to respond accurately to the NCAA’s Notice of Allegations.

Something else has been uncovered pertaining to women’s basketball, so who’s to say more of the same won’t be found by everyone looking, reading and requesting? The latest glitch could prolong the official response well into the new year, hurting recruiting further. And if anything else comes out, the vicious cycle will continue, although Cunningham is hopeful the NCAA will adjudicate this thing by the spring. That, of course, won’t keep the media and enemies from looking for and finding more embarrassing and potentially damaging information.

Before Wainstein, the university and NCAA had exchanged letters saying, “Thank you, three-year probation served, and investigation closed.” That is where it should have ended before another $3.5 million was spent and more questions were raised from those answered by the report. All the internal audits and reviews UNC wanted or needed could have kept on going to make sure the right classes were being taught in the right way by the right professors.

But that last little bit of transparency blew the case wide open again when, in my opinion, it was the last thing Carolina ever should have done to protect itself from further damage. Now, where it all ends nobody knows."

Yeah or UNC could have done the right thing from the beginning. The Martin Report was laughable bullshit at best, and even the Wainstein report didn't have the reach it should have. The $3.5m is from UNC grasping at straws to protect their banners in the face over overwhelmingly damming evidence that they've been systematically cheating for decades. And when the N&O (who I imagine are mostly UNC J-school grads) try to call bullshit, they're just ABC "enemies" of UNC and, by extension, the state of North Carolina.

On top of that, the NCAA seems uninterested in touching the Dean Smith era at all, which is a gift to UNC in and of it self. Had this been done right in the first place, UNC would have been hammered. But they lawyered up and adopted the strategy to put as much distance between the infractions and the punishment as they could and it looks like it's playing out just how they wanted so they can paint the image that "oh well since then we've ran a clean program, self-reported on sports we don't care about, and well golly G, our new guys are just such good kids - why don't we just call it a wash?"

Oh man since coming to Raleigh a week ago I have heard some crazy mess from retards about the violations. Basically UNC is going to win the championship this year in basketball and this won't be Roy's last year. I was expecting more of realistic view, but everyone just believes UNC won't really get punished because they are UNC.

So the NCAA is supposed to respond today on if they will delay the 90 day based on this "new" information that has already been deemed typical to what has been seen throughout. N&O didn't have anything posted yet even though today is the deadline. I have been out of it for a bit with moving, but are they seriously trying to scapegoat not only the punishment for basketball by sacrificing the women's team, but now they are also trying to stick the nail in the coffin on this post season by delaying this case with BS material?

BTW has anyone else noticed less UNC apparel or stickers on cars since all of this came about, say in the last 2 years specifically? Maybe it is just more Duke on cars I see having lived out in Catwaba county, but I swear I saw more NCSU than UNC decals.
