I was in Amsterdam this past weekend, and they have an amazing selection of micro brews their (IMHO) if you are looking for IPAs. For Pils and wheat beers, it is better to stick with the German brands, but for IPA, holy hell that place was stacked.
My favorite by far was Butcher's Tears. 7/22/2014 9:27:38 AM |

We just got a keg of Torch Pilsner and Sisters of the Moon IPA (Mother Earth) at work. Both are fantastic, but I particularly like Torch Pilsner in the summer--just very easy to drink but flavorful.

^^I just happened to be in Tasty last week when their shipment came in. At first I thought $25 for a 12-pack sounded a little high, then I realized 1) that's ~$2/beer, 2) I've paid $25 for a 4-pack of Siberian Night BBA before.
Just got lucky on the timing I suppose. 7/23/2014 8:32:42 AM |

I tried to hold off on purchasing a pumpkin beer until at least September, but I got caught in a trap today.
Went to Total Wine to pick up a special release of the Holy City Honeycomb Over DIPA:
Then on my way to the counter I caught a stray 6 pack of this out of the corner of my eye and just had to pick it up:
Never had it and Anderson Valley is slowly becoming one of my favorite breweries. I've always loved the Winter and Summer Solstice...but their Amber Ale is one of my faves too. I also like their Gose much better than Westbrooks...which I also picked up a sixer of today:

actually ended up going there last night
beer was a bit overpriced, IMO, as was the food...but the food WAS good and the so was the draft selection
they said they won't have their own beer on tap for 8 months and it's going to be a couple of weeks before pour my beer station is up and running
the remodel of napper tandy's was good...it's an industrial theme with lots of glass, steel, and reclaimed wood...looks good

I hit up a bottle shop in Beverly Hills that recently relocated and was closed for about 8 months. They had still be receiving inventory during that time, so they had some seasonal stuff that's been long gone from the shelves everywhere else. Picked up a few more bottles of Firestone Walker's Sucaba and North Coast's Barrel-Aged Old Rasputin XVI. 9/25/2014 12:17:06 PM |

Just had a stout that easily moved into one of my top five stout/porters ever:
Even my wife was drooling (not the biggest fan of stouts/porters...especially when its 75 and sunny outside). This thing was delicious. 10/2/2014 7:20:12 PM |

^that stuff is off the charts good, and ridiculously drinkable for being 8%. I bought 4 bottles and wish I had snagged more when it was on the shelves.
While we're talking about stouts/porters, one of the bottle shops in Raleigh is selling a blend called "Stoned Bliss" that is 1/3 Terrapin Liquid Bliss and 2/3 Stone Coffee Milk Stout, needless to say it's incredible. 10/2/2014 9:30:48 PM |

Commercial Taphouse in Richmond re-opened this weekend after being purchased by a rather noteworthy guy in the Richmond beer scene (An Bui of Mekong and the Answer brewpub), and for the occasion he brought out some kegs that he'd been hanging onto for a while.
So last night they had 4 varieties of Hardywood Gingerbread Stout on draft. In October. Bourbon Barrel Gingerbread Stout is a beautiful thing...damn. 10/12/2014 1:17:54 PM |

It's def overrated. But if you can tell yourself that going in it's a really enjoyable beer. It's not the best imp ipa by any means...or even close.
The high alochol content makes it unique to me, though. The finish is so sweet and booze filled...that's usually something that's reserved for imp stouts or quads etc. It's nice to have that attached to a hoppy beer.
Also trade bait... 10/15/2014 8:38:09 AM |

picked up some Fireside Chat tonight. Had one and definitely enjoyed it. I'll probably bring some to my father in law's place for Thanksgiving.
We'll be doing a 4 year vertical of TJ's Vintage Ale this year. Yes, it's not that fancy and certainly not rare but it's actually a solid beer, especially for the price. The 2011 was the best I've had so far and we still have a few of those left, so it will be interesting to see how it stacks up 3 years later. 11/18/2014 8:23:55 PM |

Should be a good week for Thanksgiving.
The beer guy at one of my bottle shops also said he was getting some Bourbon County stuff in next week and would save me a few bottles. Still have several Mirror Mirrors in the closet and some Innis and Gunn Rum Aged, so I should be all set for a while.

Was really disappointed in Moo Hoo Chiato. The flavor was good, but it was way too thin. Can Great Lakes Christmas Ale stop being so goddamned expensive? I know $13 for a sixer isn't outrageous, but that was $10 just a couple years ago. 11/22/2014 8:53:09 AM |
