Who cares if you're an "amateur?" If you had a beer that you really enjoyed, then you win. Doesn't matter if it's fancy!

Seriously though, it's approachable-y hoppy (for someone that loves stouts and ciders), but it's still sweet/malty

I may look for it, then. I've never gotten into IPAs because I don't generally like the hoppy bitterness in the forefront; I'm generally more into stouts, various Belgians, or English barleywines that aren't too hoppy. If you like that one, being a stout guy, I should try it.

Anyone know about sours? Like, the new Belgium La Folie seasonal kinda sour. Like pucker your asshole sour. My wife loves super sour stuff, so just wondering if there's anything out there we haven't tried yet.

Also, for me, what's a good barrel ale?

So I have been thinking of signing up for a beer of the month club type thing for a while now. I dont drink that often but like to have one or two while watching a game so thought this might be a good option for me to try out new random beers without having to spend the time going out to look for them. Does anyone else do this sort of thing and if so have any recommendations? I would simply like something that will send me a six pack every month of random stuff that isnt gonna cost some ridiculous amount of money.

the shipping charges are what drive the costs up on these BotM clubs. and the selections have always been sub par in my opinion. If you don't drink that much you would be much better off just going to Total Wine and making your own six packs from the seasonal/new release sections. you'll be able to try new styles and save a ton of money.

Yeah thats pretty much what I do now since the one on capital isnt too far from where I live. Figured that was probably still the best bet with shipping charges my biggest problem is I will stand there for 20 minutes trying to make a six pack. Almost better to have one forced upon me due to the fact eventually I will just end up with ones or styles I know I will like rather than taking chances on something new.

Pay me $15-25 a month, I'll build you a six-pack and guarantee that you never try the same thing twice. If you have preferences, I'll even build around them.

I love Westbrook Gose, but I wouldn't want to drink it all day. The Anderson Valley Gose is much more sessionable in my opinion.

Also Oskar Blues Mama's Little Yella Pils and 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon are good all day drinkers.

Yeah...can only have one or two of the Westbrook Gose. Will have to try the Anderson Valley...as I'm a big fan of their beers (love me a Summer Solstice...like a beer cream soda).

Had a couple tall boy cans of Bells Two Hearted Ale over the weekend...delicious. Might be in my head, but thought it tasted much better out of a can....and a tall boy can for that matter.

Nothing like coming in from the 90+ degree humid weather and putting down a delicious stout!

Got a couple cans of the AV Gose today as well. Can't wait to try it.

I got trashed off of the Westbrook Mexican Cake last night. That 10.5 will do it for ya!

Really liked the Anderson Valley Gose. Less salty than the Westbrook version...a lot more balanced IMO.

Growler filling stations are popping up everywhere in Durham. I take it these do well in other states, but I rarely want to buy a full of growler of beer. Growlers seem to be more expensive than buying single bottles, which offer more variety. On the positive side, a couple of the stores let you make custom flights, which is pretty cool.

- Growlers should be cheaper (after you purchase the initial growler of course).

- I don't normally get a growler unless I'm sharing.

- some beers are only offered in kegs

- some places offer different sizes growlers (I often use the one that gets me about 2.5 pints)

Parents came to visit my kids and they picked up 2 4 packs of noda hop drop and roll.

Pretty good, tastes very similar to another big name ipa, I just can't place it.

I really feel like last years Mexican Cake was alot better. I have 2 left from that run, and am even more scared to drink them now. Maybe the rest of my bottles from this year will age well.

The habenero "kick" in this years wasn't as strong as last years. That's the only big difference I could tell. I would have liked more of that kick in it, so I guess I prefer last year's version as well...but it was still damn tasty.

My wife finally found a kind of beer she likes. We hit up Carolina Brewery a few weeks back and she really enjoyed the limited run Trippel they had. This week I picked up some cans of Aviator Devil's Tramping Ground Trippel and she also liked it. I rather enjoy this as she has never cared to drink any beer. The ones I usually drink are IPA's but she thinks they are too bitter. She occasionally took to some seasonal fruit flavored beers but usually could not finish them, but she polishes these off no problem.

^Yea she is a lightweight anyways and usually only drinks one beer max. Least now she's drinking something that actually packs a punch in one drink.

pretty consistent with what some distributors were telling me last year that Fall beers are the most popular and July 4th is the biggest beer drinking holiday. So the distributors are trying to start pushing out fall beers on or around the 4th.

I associate July 4th with drinking lighter IPAs, pilsners or lagers on the water somewhere, not pumpkin spiced brews

meh. Definitely will not be drinking any right now. I don't care as long as it isn't here and gone before I'm interested in drinking it. That one usually is stocked pretty well though.

Hell, I'm still drinking pumpkins from the last 2 seasons. Well, I really only drink them when my stash of in-season beers is depleted.

My local beer store in downtown W-S (City Beverage) had their spring tent sale in early April and had this on sale for a whole case (I think it was around $75?). I didn't buy any of it, but I still spent about $160 on at least 9 other cases of beer. Anyway, I think they finally got rid of the last of the Pumpking before the 4th.

My past years of beer hoarding has come back to bite me; tons of stuff to pack up. If anyone is interested in trades for ammo, I got some crazy stuff in here. Most if has been aged anywhere from 2-8 years. I have a 2008 Schlafly Barleywine in here.

Blackberry White Ale release at Hardywood (Richmond brewery) today; picked up a growler and a bomber. That's what should be around in the summer...pumpkin beers are for fall. Silly wabbit.

I've heard a bunch of people say that, but the logistics involved in doing a mixed pack with 12 different beers including both bottles and cans produced at different breweries probably drove up the cost. Plus a bunch of them are over 6%.
