i dont see that splitting time with cat is the reason he is leaving. splitting time with cat is the best thing for him, it is obvious that he cant play a full 40 minutes a game. i hope he does well, just want to know what the real reason is for him leaving.

He committed to Capel then wanted to back out. Capel said no so Graham spent a year at prep school, I believe. 3/30/2014 1:07:45 AM |

Actually got into a discussion about this earlier tonight when I heard the news.
for every transfer that Gottfried has had, he has had one transfer TO state.
Turner, Lacey----Purvis, Lewis.
I get the feeling that he recruits them thinking they are really good players and promises them starting time and when they dont pan out or dont live up to the hype, he starts looking at freshmen.
its an issue...but he has had many transfers into State that will certainly help or have already. 3/30/2014 3:06:45 AM |

I guess he knew he was destined to be a rotation player, but damn if we couldnt trick him into staying by having him start most of the year.
To be a good program, we need to be able to bring guys like this off the bench. 3/30/2014 3:40:01 AM |

^^ Lacy can play point but he isn't one.
This sucks. Lewis is EXACTLY what a still young team needed. Such a calming influence.
So three McDonalds AAs from that class and none will play a third season. Does this happen anywhere else (To be fair, Warren going is a great thing for our exposure though). 3/30/2014 6:38:19 AM |

I guess my question is what changed? He knew Cat and Lacy would be here last summer. Why not transfer then and have three years somewhere else?
I'm not a huge fan of overselling a role by a coach but I suspect that is what Gott does. To be fair to Gott though, these transfers will only matter if he stops making tournaments.

IIRC Lacey was playing point at Alabama and one of the reasons that he transferred here was so that he could play off the ball more
Lewis knows that Cat is going to progress even more into next season and his minutes were going to severely diminish...I also think he is a little overwhelmed at this level. Maybe he wants to transfer to a smaller school/conference where he would be more successful like a Davidson or UNC-W/G/C or whatever
I really think that we get Graham...App St would seriously burn some bridges with the AAU/HS coaches over that one if they were to hold him from us

people are bat shit crazy if they think we lost to STL because of Tyler Lewis
sure, he had 4 turnovers in the 2nd half plus overtime, but in reviewing the play-by-play, those turnovers led to a whopping TWO points
plus, he scored 40% of our points in overtime
plus, he was perfect at the FT line. the rest of the team was 51%

This is a BAD lost for our program, especially with the uncertainty of TJ's plans. A PG in basketball is like a quarterback in football. You can have a lot of star players but if your PG sucks then your offense sucks. Lewis is a battled tested PG and it would of been great if him and Barber could split the playing time this upcoming season, but its easy for me to say. I personally think Barber would be a terrific shooing guard. 3/30/2014 12:49:11 PM |

Quote : | "Ever since he'd gone to his first basketball camp as a 4-year-old and fell hard for the game, Lewis was a true blue North Carolina fan. He learned how to play basketball by watching Tar Heel games on television. When Tyler and his older brother Colby played one-on-one in the driveway, Colby was Vince Carter and Tyler was Ed Cota. Tyler collected UNC jerseys, including Joseph Forte, Jason Capel, Julius Peppers, Raymond Felton and Rashad McCants.
As a kid, he begged his parents for tickets to one or two games every year at the Smith Center and among his most precious childhood possessions was the photo he once took with Ty Lawson.
"I just have had a love for the Tar Heels because my whole family are Carolina fans," Lewis says. "Shooting in my driveway I won the national championship for Carolina hundreds of times."" |

@laxman490: No dude, its called being a fan of State and caring about the future of the program. I've been a fan of Tyler since the Miami home game in 2013, check my posts if you have nothing else to do. Defensive liability? Did you even watch the games this year? Yeah, he had some lapses but the team as a whole sucked donkey balls on defense, why is he the only one getting pegged for it? The funny thing is he was the main orchestrator when we were running zone as the team seem to have no idea what they were doing which is bad coaching. Im very concerned b/c if TJ leaves then our best recruiting class in years is GONE within 2 years which i personally see something wrong with.
@ginga: I thought it was well known that he grew up a Carolina fan. Can't really blame him since State hasn't done much in the sport for a couple of decades.

I think you're overreacting. Sure it hurts to lose a guy like Lewis. But if it comes down to Cat vs Lewis...Cat is the better defender, better scoring, and is more suited for this level of competition. If Lewis doesn't wanna back him up, then he made the right decision. It sucks to lose the depth and experience at PG, but we still have good guard play going in to next season

Ehh. Purvis was a primma donna. Lewis was over recruited. And Warren was fucking POY. Ranking wise it was a great class. But Lewis was overrated. And the jury is still out on Purvis.
