Public schools closed today just shows how much of a joke this is again. Roads have been perfectly navigable for over a day at this point. Catering to the lowest common denominator is annoying.

But hey, made my morning commute super easy!

You realize there are more roads than you can see from your mom's basement window, right? And thousands of people still do not have power.

While your first statement is false, your second is almost always true. But not in this case. I guess it must be all the shittily driving parents, but when school is not in, my commute is at least 50% improved. They could cancel school for butterflies and I would be ecstatic.

I'm pretty sure schools are closed today because some people in Wake County are still without power, not because the roads were icy this morning...

WCPSS already stated why they closed schools. The explanation included icy road conditions. No need to speculate here. The facts are out there for you to use.

Our neighbor is a teacher. She said that today was closed, optional teacher workday, but then they emailed saying don't come in immediately as parking lots and sidewalks are an ice rink still. This morning they sent an email saying they were now closed altogether as they ran out of ice melting materials! This is the first snow so far. Lulz.

My company said no one should come to work before 9 so they could treat and clear the parking lots, which they did amazingly well. No problems getting to work either.

I came out of out of my office's parking deck today and stepped out onto the sidewalk only to realize that the ice hadn't melted at all, didn't crack at all, and I had zero traction. Probably slid a good two feet and was very proud of myself for staying upright cause it was a close call. Hustled over to the grass ASAP.

No way a bus could get up the hills in my neighborhood first thing this morning, kids are still sledding down the ice sheet. My wife's school is deep in a neighborhood too that has all shaded roads and hills, I doubt that neighborhood is safe early in the morning as well.

Unless there is significant meltage today, school will be closed tomorrow as well.

Back roads in durham and chapel hill are terrible. It took me an hour to get to a clients house that lives out in the boonies

I tried to do that to someone yesterday.

Not really...but I mashed my breaks to make it fly off the back. It just slid forward onto my windshield, and I had to pull over to manually remove the sheet of ice.

Did your windshield crack?

People that are too lazy to remove the large sheet of ice from their roof piss me off to no end. Maybe you think it looks cool or you like to be reminded that we had some snow, but that shit is fucking dangerous. There have been documented injuries, wrecks, and damage done by that. Clean your shit off and quit being an irresponsible, careless, asshole.

leave a ton of room between you and other cars on I-40 so you don't catch a chunk of ice, but otherwise its fine

^^ ha i meant about braking to make it fly off the back... momentum would make it want to slide forward when you brake (as you observed). You'd want to accelerate to make ice fall off behind your car.

LOL Thanks for explaining that.

Braking was the only way I could figure out how to jar it and loosen it up.

And you didn't have to draw a drink napkin diagram, so I'm clearly still approaching a genius level IQ.

The strong cold front arrives on the evening of the February 3 and the cold air gets fairly re-established over the entire central and eastern portions of the country. There are hints of a possible Eastern US winter storm FEB 7-8-9 but right now it is nothing more than some hints of a favorable pattern setting up.

Almost got clobbered this morning by a giant piece of ice on I-40 this morning. I've even increased my following distance because of it but the car was diagonal to me.
