After the criticism Trump received for his poor handling of hurricane relief, a bunch of conservatives started passing around something from a person who had written a letter to Obama asking for help and never got a response. It blows my mind that so many people see that as equally bad. 10/17/2017 1:27:10 AM |

Quote : | "Somehow he has taken any Trump criticisms as attacks on democracy. It’s bizarre." |
Its not any criticisms of trump. Its just the ones that criticize Trump for doing things he made clear he was going to do when he ran.
If you don't think Trump should be able to appoint conservative judges, then you don't support our constitution and thats fine. (I don't either, I just want you to stop the gymnastics of pretending that you do) Conservative judges are the will of the people and to an extent, that represents democracy. Expecting Trump to nominate liberal judges would be a betrayal to democracy like Garland was a betrayal to the left except thats the main thing Trump ran on. Obama was always interested in appeasing the right but Trump unapologetically ran on being the opposite way.
Quote : | "What the fuck are we doing on here if we cant voice displeasure about packing the courts with far right judges? " |
You can voice displeasure thats fine. I have a problem with your implication that it is somehow "harming" the country that was built on and always maintained the very things you are complaining about.
If I didn't know any better, I'd think Trump created the right.

It should be obvious that is one example of what I was talking about but also the codifying of discrimatory law with regards to any class of people more generally. Ultra conservative justices have a long history of that obviously and that’s not the direction I want to see the country take. It’s wrong to me. But I’m not and I’ve never said they shouldn’t be allowed to be appointed. The right and the left have already made that decision.

It's what's really at the root of all the trumpsters hearts. for the types of things you're talking about, right and wrong are subjective, and all sides believe they are absolutely right.
You don't get to decide what is right and what is wrong. A lot of the things you think are right, are wrong to me. At some point, in any society, its a ruling class, king, or democratic majority deciding what the country accepts as right and wrong and making that the law.
Quote : | "I find it amusing when you show such disdain for other points of view while simultaneously exposing your own ignorance. Pot, meet kettle." |
I don't have any disdain for other points of view. I'm just calling out hypocrisy and "gymnastics" when I see it.
Quote : | "The Founding Fathers were well aware of this potential hazard and implemented safeguards against it. Obviously you did not know this, but you should have." |
What did I not know exactly? All you did was post a wikipedia tyranny of majority link and with the implication that I don't know about it. I've actually been the one on here saying Trump hasn't actually been able to do anything bad. If there are safeguards, then there is nothing to worry about, right? So what is everyone worried about? Do they not know about it either?
It looks like you don't know what tyranny means because it can't be tyranny unless it defies the rights afforded in the constitution. If the majority wanted to break the law by taking away the rights of the minority, they can't and it would be overturned in the courts. "but what if trump replaces all the judges?" term limits and Senate confirmation process don't give you enough time to personally configure the judicial system.
It all boils down to his judges having an interpretation of the constitution that you disagree with. Thats not tyranny, its politics.
Just because something you don't like is happening, doesn't automatically make it tyranny.10/18/2017 7:16:30 PM |
