"1.WORLD WAR HULK BEGINS. Hotlist two for one special, Start with Incredible Hulk #106 – She Hulk, Doc Savage, Mastermind Excello and the rest of the Marvel Universe. Then continue with World War Hulk Prologue: World Breaker – Hulk’s MAD! Hulk SMASH! HULK COME HOME! If you don’t buy this today, don’t cry about how much it costs next week. Oh and my nominee for best Short Story of the Year, two words: THE ILLUMINATORS! “Hulk strongest there is! Hulk smash puny flower!”

2.Marvel Zombies Vs. Army of Darkness #3 – I haven’t read it yet, but you’re going to buy it anyhow.

3.Marvel Zombies Vs. Army of Darkness #1 2nd printing – In case you hadn’t heard Zombie Mania is in full effect. Oh yeah, two words: ZOMBIE HITLER!

4.Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 #3 – I have no idea what this book is, but it sells. See note about cry babies in item #1.

5.Dark Tower Gunslinger Born #4 – Roland slings guns?

6.Sensational Spider-Man Annual #1 – When JMS stops writing Amazing, I hope Matt Fraction and Salvador Larocca get the book. Until that day, check out this incredible book about Spider-Man and Mary Jane’s commitment to each other.

7.Astonishing X-Men #21 –Marvel decided that Whedon’s books sell better, if they all come out on the same day!

8.52 week 52 - I won’t spoil this book for anyone! It was well worth the year wait!

9.Hellboy: Darkness Calls #1 – That’s right not BPRD, HELLBOY!

10.Omega Flight #2 – And you thought the Superhero Civil War caused problems in America…

11.Midnighter #7 – This is an early candidate for Best Single Issue of the year. Brian K. Vaughan takes the reigns for this one shot. Hint: Pay very close attention to the first two words of the book.

12.Detective #832 – Kramer is no Dini, but damn his fill in books are good.

13.Runaways #26 – Jon says he wants all your money, but it's really Joe Q. I mean Marvel Zombies vs. #3, a reprint of #1, 4 Initiative titles, Dark Tower, and the same week Buffy Hits, both of Marvel's Whedon books drop, aaaand WWH! Wow, my total even suprised me!

14.Scalped #5 – The origin of Dash.

15.Raise The Dead #2 – See item #3 part a.

16.Chucky #1 – Jon’s pick for kid pick of the week.

17.Avenger’s The Initiative #2 – Poor Hank!

18.Iron Man #17 – So Iron Man thinks he can run SHIELD with out sacrificing his morals. Wait, isn’t this the guy that made Civil War Happen?

19.Spawn #167 – So Jon forced me to read 166, this is as good as the book ever was. The new direction is great. It is a solid Horror title. See previous notes about crying.

20.Teen Titans #46 – It’s a Teen Titans past and present All-star Knockdown action bonanza as the Titans and the Titans East duke it out for heavy weight sidekick team of the world."

I'm following Silent War at the moment. It's the best comic I've read in a long, long time.

i caved and bought my first marvel comic since jim lee and todd mcfarlane quit

only cause frank cho is drawing it

sad to say

he looks like he's coppin a sexy man's kevin maguire

as a matter of fact the whole "mighty avengers" feels like a sexed up, less funny version of justice league circa keith giffen

jeeze louise

make keith write this and change the characters to dc and it COULD BE jli

but anyways

iron man and ms marvel keep talking about spider-man and luke cage

plz for synopsis, people that know

Everyone should read the preface to Civil War: Battle Damage Report. I used this edition and Captain America: The Death of the Dream in a multigenre essay to support my thesis of the Superhuman Registration Act as a metaphor for the USA Patriot Act.

PS: Sorry--I went a little bit college boy with that post.

""After the publication of Civil War #7, Mark Millar was interviewed by Newsarama and described the event as "a story where a guy wrapped in the American flag is in chains as the people swap freedom for security", agreeing that a "certain amount of political allegory" was present but that the real focus of the book was on superheroes fighting each other. Contrasting it with The Ultimates, Millar stated that Civil War was "accidentally political because I just can't help myself".""

does anyone read the transformer comics? the dreamwave issues were very nice and im growing on the IDW ones, it seems like they try and stretch out the individual story lines though to make more comics and such, but the art and writing is done fairly well

So... who exactly is in the X-Men these days? I haven't read anything since shortly after Onslaught. I was in the comic store the other day and saw an issue with a very badass Cable on the cover. I still read Cable and Deadpool, and it looks like the next issue is going to have Cable leading the X-Men?

It was mostly a DC event, but Free Comic Book day was last Saturday. Some pretty decent comic books that you could get for free.

Justice League America, Family Guy, Teen Titans, and Battlestar Galactica are the ones I picked up.

Also picked up the latest All Star Superman #7.

It has been an excellent series so far.

Also got this one, though I am not sure if I will seek out this whole story.

"Dear Ultimate Customers,

Thank you for the great success of the dollar sale at Northgate and Chapel Hill last weekend.

This weekend at the Northgate store, all action figures are buy two get one free, equal or lessor value, excludes Deluxe Collector's product. This sale will go through tomorrow, Sunday May 20, 2007.

From now until the close of business on Tuesday May 22, 2007 at the Durham location ONLY. All back issues are on sale Buy one, get one free. Of course this applies to equal or lessor items only. All wall, show and last 12 monthes stock are excluded. Rush in for best selection.

Later,
Lee (your source for your weekend sale fix) "

The durham location by southpoint does seem to have the best selection, even if it is more clustered than the rest of the branches.

The rise and fall of the shi'ar empire storyline is finally finished in the uncanny x-men. Spoilers:

Corsair is dead and Havoc took over leading the starjammers to continue fighting his brother Vulcan’s empire. Prof X can both walk now, and use his mental powers. Prof X, Nightcrawler, James Proudstar, Darwin and the rest are back on Earth. Now that everyones home and the civil war is over, I wonder where they will go next? All I know is Storm if front and center on the cover of the next issue.

And Illuminati 3 comes out in a week or so.

We are steadily prepping the show stock to take to Wizard World Philly. This has been our most successful convention experience for three years running. This message got me thinking... I've never been to a comic book convention before. I'm not the type to go very far for one, but I've heard there's a pretty big one in Charlotte occasionally tied to the hero's aren't hard to find comic shop. Is that one any good, what kind of stuff goes on there, are there ever any other in-state comic conventions?

It's one of the smaller ones around the country, but it's the biggest in the state. Decent amount of guests, a lot of people go for all the shops and their sales.

"Next, so you thought Pre-Philly Madness was Over?
Well, Buddy, You were wrong!
All of the following sales are good at all three locations on Saturday & Sunday Only!
You know all those pesky exclusions during our regular sales? Well this weekend ALL SHOW BOOKS are on sale. This includes the miles and miles of comics from the vault. That's right Saturday and Sunday only the vault is open. Check out Chapel Hill for the cream of the crop.
What's that... just bringing them out isn't enough? How about if we make them oh I don't know 35% off? (By the way, Alan just had a heart attack.)
Oh yeah and Statues are on sale at 15% off.
So here's the deal. We will not hold anything for you. Anything that is in your box is not part of the sale. And of course, the sale supercedes any other offers, coupons, or discounts.

And now for the Hot list 6-6-07 my baby's a tweenie edition.
1. Countdown #47 - At this point even Jimmy Olsen wants answers to what is going on!
2. The All-New Atom #12 - The Search for Ray Palmer Begins Here! Oh and by the way I would like to retract any less than glowing remarks I have made towards this book for the last year. Having just caught up on the book in anticipation of this issue... I must state that is an intriguing and fun book. RIYL: Welcome to Tranquility, NEXTWave, or any other solid fun book.
3. The Lone Ranger #6 - Leading the way for the "when is that book gonna come out?" category. The origin wraps and any elements may have felt were missing in the first five issues, they're (see there #66, I used there, their, they're right!) all in play now.
4. Buffy The Vampire Slayer #4 - Uh, I don't read this, you guys just buy it!
5. Dark Tower Gunslinger Born #5 - See #4.
6. New Warriors #1 - New X-Men and Exiles Fans have to read this. Iron Man haters have to read this. Iron Man lovers have to read this. In short, you have to read this!
7. Jack of Fables #11 - The cover says it all "Don't even try to sneak out of the comic shop with out this issue..." Oh yeah and if you read issue #6, you have to read this!
8. Detective #833 - Dini decides to drop an arc on us and brings Zatanna along for the ride!
9. Black Summer #0 - Mr. Ellis says it best, "What happens when a superhero's pursuit of justice leads him to the inexorible conclusion that he must kill his (sic. the U.S.) President to save his country?" Oh yeah and it's cheap!
10. Uncanny X-Men 487 - Jon wants you all to know this is the unofficial start of ENDANGERED SPECIES!
11. Iron Man #18 - It might be the wrong time to let Tony know the Hulk is on his way back. He's having a bad time; the higher up's in the Government are questioning his abilities, there's a conflict with Korea, Dugan hates him, Maya hates him, and oh yeah that extremis stuff, well its...
12. Invicible #42 - Great starting point: cheap, new story arc, and a comprehensive recap.
13. Omega Flight #3 - This ain't your dad's Canadian Super Team.
14. Marvel Zombies Vs. Army of Darkness #4 - Suydam literally called this cover in, but same ole goodness on the inside.
15. Darkness Level 4 - So, if this is the story of the video game, does it help you win the video game? Someone let me know.
16. Daredevil: Battlin' Jack Murdock #1 - So Reign was the last Marvel Knights story? Someone forgot to tell JMS and Heroes For Hire scribe Zeb Wells.
17. Transformers Movie Adaptation #1 - cue music "Robots in Disguise"
18. Welcome to Tranquility #7 - The best book written by Gail Simone. New story arc. If that's not enough, how about we throw Gen 13 into the mix?
19. Midnighter #8 - Christos Gage of Stormwatch PHD, Union Jack and WWH: X-Men (easily the best new writer in the industry) fame shows us the softer side of everyone's favorite "scary leather man."
20. Sadhu #8 - Last issue.. for now... The final confrontation between James and Townsend. This is not your typical Hero story. Still the best book Virign has put out!
21. Superman #663 - MONKEYS!

Trade Picks
1. Civil War: Iron Man - The story of why Tony Stark became the Marvel U's biggest villian.
2. Essential Silver Surfer Vol. 2 - Read all about that Norrin Radd guy before JMS made him all sick. It's not just hot, it's essential!
3. Alien Vs. Predator Omnibus Volume 1 - So "omnibus volume one" still sounds funny to me, but its ALIENS... VERSUS... PREDATORS.
4. Bullet Points - I wasn't going to put this on the hotlist, but then superstar artist Tommy Lee Edwards threatened to sit on me. It's not so much that he's big as that all that stuff he puts in his hair smells funny.
5.Batman: Turning Points - An in depth study of the relationship between the Dark Night and Gotham Police Commisioner Jim Gordan that Jon says is a "must read."

Thread's gone to shit because it's one thread for a whole medium. Do you think anyone would post anything of worth in an "official music thread"? Nah. We have threads devoted to specific genres and artists, just like we should have threads devoted to specific comic genres and publishers and titles and such. A thread about Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane would entice me to post a lot more than "official comic book discussion," for instance.

Big ol' monolithic threads like this just reinforce the insularity of comics fandom as perceived by outsiders. Can you imagine what this shit looks like to those folks? Fourteen pages of "comic book discussion"? We've got to tighten up the focus a little to actually generate interest and discussion.

^Hell me too. My fav book at the moment. I was told that the Nighthawk v. Hyperion was supposed to fill the gap (and time) from the last SS book till when it resumes. Also they have that Ultimate Power thing going on as well so thats filling the gap. Now that Nighthawk v. Hyperion is over, it stands to reason that it will resume shortly (or shortly after Ultimate Power.

Well, I picked up the last few issues of X-Men simply because they tied in with Cable and Deadpool. I was extremely impressed with the art, and almost felt a moment of weakness calling me to get back into reading all of the X-titles like I used to. Unfortunately (or fortunately, as the case may be), the whole Red Data storyline with the Hecatomb was unexpectedly anticlimactic. Started out great, and then fizzed out. I was excited that Cable was going to get his full power back, but I should have known better.

So what's going to be the plot with issue #300?

Oh yeah, and whatever happened to Gambit?

"Do you work at a store?"

It's a chain, not just a store, and it was more of a way of bumping a thread that has fallen off the first page while posting new comics. But I can stop posting new comics/sales/bump info if thats what people prefer.

I liked the Endangered Specifies storyline so far. I’m considering getting the x-men tie-ins. It was focused on a simple yet deep concept of mortality. It’s nice to have a story that’s not all massive wars & alien empires once in a while. And its not the death of the kind of character thats likely to come back from dead.
