Did anyone ever go to Amazing Hero's comics shops? It was a comic shop chain in western NC. My friend/coworker's dad own them, and she worked there as a girl.

I've been given some comics by a family friend who was cleaning out his house before moving. Some of them seem valuable. Are there any sites you recommend to look up the values and possibly sell online (besides ebay)?

Its been awhile since I've looked up prices and I don't think I've found a place you can find places online. However, if you stop in a comic shop and pick up a "Wizard" magazine, they have a fair amount of prices in there. If you want to gauge how much a comic runs for, check out http://www.milehighcomics.com/. Mind you, if you went in to sell a comic book, they're going to hamstring you. I don't know where you could sell them other than ebay or at a comic shop. Good luck.

I saw in the latest issue of Toyfare that the next build-a-figure in the Marvel Legends line is Holocaust! I am not so much interested in having to buy the individual figures, but I certainly do want to get him. Maybe someone will sell a complete one on eBay.

This comic came out today. There has been some discussion of it here:

http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=494864&page=1#10771819

I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with this.

That was a relatively lame comic, only because it just stalled the story and had almost nothing to do with the cover.

This may already be common knowledge, but I just encountered this:

Quote :
"Wolverine Movie Gets Official Title and Release Date
X-Men Origins: Wolverine hits theaters May 1, 2009

By Ryan Penagos

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Movie
» Gavin Hood to Direct Wolverine Spin-Off Movie
» Wolverine Solo Movie on the Way May is officially awesome month for Marvel movies. From "X2" in '03 and "Spider-Man 3" in '07 to 2008's "Iron Man," there's no doubt that Marvel and May make a solid team. And now we can chalk another surefire success to the list when "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" slashes its way into theaters May 1, 2009!

Reprising his role as Wolverine from the "X-Men" movies, Hugh Jackman stars in the blockbuster which, according to VARIETY, could feature a young William Stryker, Sabretooth, Weapon X and a bevy of other mutants—both returning and new characters.

Additional cast members haven't been announced yet, but joining Jackman are director Gavin Hood ("Tsotsi") and writer David Benioff ("The Kite Runner"). With filming tentatively scheduled to begin by the end of 2007, look for more "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" news and announcements here on Marvel.com.

Also I have my costume ready for this year:

"Production
The Messiah Complex storyline will be the climax of the events that started with House of M and will set the direction of the X-Men franchise and characters for the next several years. The storyline's main plot involves the birth of a child with the X-gene, leading the X-Men, the Marauders and the Purifiers on a race to see who will find the child first.[1]

According to editor Nick Lowe, several characters, such as Rictor, Multiple Man, Hellion, Bishop, Gambit, Wolfsbane, Warpath, Angel, X-23, Mister Sinister, Surge, and Mystique, will play major roles in the story. Cyclops will also unify the X-Men in a way they haven’t been for years.[2][3]

So what will this kids power be, the first one born since M-Day? My guess is some kind of repowering by touch. I don't think he could do it on a massive scale, since they want to get back to their roots of mutants minority struggling to survive instead of having so many that its hard to keep up. Any other thoughts as to what his power might be? If Beast is right, in the Endangered Species storyline, then there isn't enough genetic diversity left among those who carry the x-gene for the species to survive long term even if a few mutants did start being born. So his power has to be big.

It came out yesterday. It looks like it'll be an action packed x-men story which should run for several months. Points like this are always fun times to start collecting again.

And of course I have to share some pics from franklin street. There were alot of repeats of the more popular comic book characters, so I've narrowed down to only one example of each for the most part. There were also many comic book characters that I missed a shot at getting pics together. But it was a lot of fun.

And here's where myself as Cyclops and Emma Frost went to Chapel Hill Comics and got free comics for letting them take our pic and put them online

So... what's going on with Gambit these days? He and Sunfire popped up in an issue of Cable and Deadpool. They were attempting to steal something from Cable's files. Cable blew up the whole archive to prevent them from getting it, but it wasn't shown what happened to them. Cable's presumed dead... but we all know that won't last.

I think Gambit & Mystique are both part of Mr Sinister's group the Marauders. They’ve been trying to destroy any object or person close to the x-men that might allow them future knowledge. This is presumably so that they can have a jump on the x-men to finding the location of the first mutant born since M-Day.

I assume cable being a time traveler and all was the reason they went after him.

Gambit and Sunfire are part of Sinisters Marauders. He's set to play a large role in Messiah Complex apparently. Cable probably will make his return during Messiah Complex as well.

Marvel Comics shows its marvelous colors in online archive

Quote :
"The comic book industry makes a long-delayed step into cyberspace today when Marvel Comics unveils the industry's first online archive of more than 2,500 back issues, including the first appearances of Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Incredible Hulk.

Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited will offer the archive in a high-resolution format on computer screens for $59.88 a year, or at a monthly rate of $9.99, at marvel.com.

Subscribers will be able to access the first hundred issues of key titles, turn pages with a click of the mouse or navigate a battle against Dr. Doom frame-by-frame with a 'Smart Panel' viewing feature. The user can zoom in on details of art by Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko from the 1960s or catch up with today's The Ultimates and New Avengers.

'We did not want to get caught flat-footed with kids these days who have the tech that allows them to read comics in a digital format,' says Dan Buckley, Marvel's president. 'Our fan base is already on the Internet. It seemed like a natural way to go.'

To help sell the experience to an audience unaccustomed to paying for content, Marvel will offer a free sampler of 250 titles. Asked why people would pay for superheroes when newspaper websites have been unable to charge for content, Buckley says, 'You can get the news anywhere. We're the only ones who have Spider-Man.'

While comic book publishers have experimented with online content for years, Marvel's effort is by far the most extensive. DC Comics recently launched its own online site, Zuda comics.com, which offers free online comic strips by newcomers. DC does not offer its back catalog of Superman and Batman online.

Marvel's online initiative comes as publishers find that the traditional comic book, which now costs $2.99 an issue, is acting as a springboard to other formats, including trade paperbacks and more expensive reprints.

To protect current sales of comic books, new issues won't be on the Marvel site until six months after they are published.

'If they put their monthly comic online at the same time, they'd be cutting their own throats and undercutting the retailers,' says Peter David, a comic book writer currently adapting Stephen King's The Dark Tower for Marvel. 'The material is owned by Marvel, and they can do whatever they want with it. This is just another means of reprint when you come down to it.'

Comic books have not been immune from Internet file sharing. But unlike MP3s for music, fans haven't found a format to easily share the pages.

'About 90% of the comic books sold today are scanned and put online within 36 hours,' says Chris Arrant, a comic book analyst for Newsarama.com.

'Our quality is much higher; the library is huge and will never go out of style,' says Marvel editor in chief Joe Quesada. 'This is the legal way to do things.'"

Just finished reading Messiah Complex #4. Normally I don't follow New X-men too closely, but with this storyline there is such an overlap with the other 3 comics this story is running in, I still got to see plenty of the uncanny x-men & other characters there too. I don't want give away everything about the ending, but I must say I was surprised to see Lady Deathstrike there.

Also I'm glad the new avengers didn't put off dealing with the symbiots any more.

Messiah Complex 5 finally picked up the action. It really got into Mr Sinister’s Marauders vs the X-men, and the Stryker’s religiously anti-mutant Purifiers vs the new X-men, with plenty of surprises along the way. It was a cliff hanger in numerous ways. It feels a lot like the Heroes tv show did at first. I liked it, but it was slow moving, but once it finally hits its moment it gets really good.

Quote :
"How powerful is Apocalypse?"

Extremely.

From the Wiki article:

Quote :
"Apocalypse is generally potrayed as a feared, dangerous, and one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe, possessing a vast array of superhuman powers instead of a singular power, unlike other mutants. He further augmented himself through Celestial technology, though it is unclear if these enhancements granted him any additional powers. His powers appear to change according to the story's need and/or the creative team's desires. Apocalypse initially was a shape-shifter with the ability to teleport himself and others over unknown distances, but his powers have greatly expanded since then, and he has displayed immense strength, near invulnerability, energy absorbing and projecting abilities, regeneration, telepathy, telekinesis, etc.

Apocalypse control his body — re-arrange and re-structure it's molecules as it suits him. He can change the shape of his body at will, allow his body to become extremely malleable, and even increase his size as well strength by taking on additional mass from an extra-dimensional source. Apocalypse can stretch, or contort his limbs and body into a multitude of shapes, lengths, positions, and sizes, with flexibility and coordination far beyond the natural human limits. He can open holes through his body to avoid attacks. He is able to form various weapons (e.g. blades, giant hammers, guns or shields) with parts of his body, including wings or jets to enable flight. He is also able to adapt his body to appearantly any dieases or environment. On one occasion, he has showed the ability to phase his hand through another object/person. Through his shape-shifting ability, Apocalypse can give himself virtually any physical superhuman power.

Thanks to his mutant power of immortality, Apocalypse is immune to aging. He does not need sustenance of any kind, and his body produces practically no fatigue toxins during physical activity, able to exert himself at peak capacity indefinitely. Apparently Apocalypse belongs to a sub-species of immortal mutants known as the Externals. Apocalypse as been referred to as an External on several occasions, however, his longevity is believed by Selene as mostly due to technological means. Although, Apocalypse was already many centuries old before his first encounter with the technology he would later integrate himself with. To note, Selene herself needs to maintain her supply of life force that she drains from human victims.

In addition to his superhuman powers, Apocalypse is an extraordinary genius. His knowledge in various areas of science and technology, primarily genetics and biology, is far more advanced than conventional science. He has mastery of Celestial technology that he uses for his own applications, such as altering mutants or humans, and has shown able to directly interface with the various technologies he has at his disposal. He is also a master strategist in combat."

Apocalypse is so powerful that even he doesn't know the limits of his powers.

And yet, even with all of this, there's one thing which Apocalypse fears... X-Man. (Or Cable, if you prefer.) Out of the list above, I definitely think that Apocalypse stands on top of everyone.

after messiah complex they started divided we stand

not all the comics that are a part of the divided we stand title have come out yet

but i'm surprised, the best so far has been x-force, which has characters i'd normally not care about as much, but it was the most intense/complex of the stories so far.

Yeah, I had been reading on the messiah complex recently and figured there would be something after the part where gambit gives the baby to cable to take into the future.

I kind of wish they'd go ahead and settle Gambit down in one place...but I guess that would be entirely against his character. X-Men -> Horseman -> Mr. Sinister -> whatever he is now...something like that right? And this is just recently of course.

Also, I'm so glad that this stuff is written up in wikipedia I haven't read an actual comic book in years.

I'll be honest, I hate Wolverine now. I like the idea of a well trained assassin who has unbreakable bones and a healing factor, therefore very hard to kill. But it's gotten to where he's just completely unkillable, which pretty much ruins any story when you know that whatever happens to the main character, he will be good to go in 15 minutes.

Even the freaking Hulk admitted that he wouldn't be able to kill Wolverine in WWH. WTF, you are the Hulk, tear his head off and send it into orbit.

For reference, Wolverine #43

After being blown up by Nitro:

Yeah, well, Deadpool is just as inconsistent if not worse. He used to have an amazing artificial healing ability which would - with time - allow him to regenerate limbs. He started to lose that ability and eventually it degenerated to the point where he could still heal quickly, but couldn't regrow things. By the end of the Cable and Deadpool book, though, he was routinely having his head sliced off, having his skull run through, and otherwise being maimed in ridiculous ways... and could completely heal within a few panels.

I don't know if this has something to do with Alex Hayden or not. I never read the Agent X books.

I just read the new cable series thats part of divided we stand and it was pretty good. Not quite as good as X-Force though but still very good. The 2nd issue of X-force stayed strong and is the best x-men series out there right now as far as I'm concerned.

I'm still collecting X-Men & Uncanny X-men but they haven't be as interesting after Messiah Complex. Although I do like the trio in Uncanny of Logan, Piotr, & Kurt and the red room. The wolverine divided we stand had some interesting flashbacks with mystique now that wolverine remembers his past. I haven't picked up the Logan series yet. I mean I like Logan, but he's in everything.

Todays the day for free comics being given out at any local comic shop... get 'em while they're hot!

Ultimate Comics has a location in East Gate in chapel hill, one at a shopping center on the North Side of 40 at the intersection you turn to go to the streets of south point, and one at North Gate mall in durham. I think Capital comics has a couple of locations around Raleigh, one being on hillsborough street, and I believe Foundations Edge is on hillsborough street too. I know there are some more gaming shops and the like around Raleigh & Cary that have comics too.
