Yeah, I'm taking my cat (8 years old, male tabby) to the vet tommorow (actually I am pre-vet myself and have no clue why I would ask important questions on TWW), but 5 days ago my cat got into a fight with a pretty bad puncture wound and today he had a seizure. His head started twitching uncontrollably for about 10 minutes. When I would pet his head it would stop twitching, and he had control over other parts of his body. His gums were a bit pale, his breathing was fine, his eyes dialated and constricted fine during the whole time period. Perhaps he has an infection caused by the cat fight the other day that has hurt his CNS? I know seizures are not as common in cats as they are in dogs, but I was wondering if any of you other TWW people have experience with feline seizures or epilepsy.

when you say "pretty bad puncture wound" where about on the body is it?

an infection is always a high possibility and something like Clavamox could have prevented that. This is why you don't wait to take you animals to the Vet.

it wasn't that bad, sorry...I just made that sound like I am a bad owner. He came home with a scab on his ear about the size of a pinky nail. When He was twitching it wasn't like his head was swinging all over the place, it was only moving about 1/4 inch at a time. We will get him to the vet ASAP

He has had a long history of seizure like symptoms since he was a kitten, we have talked with different vets numerous times about it, but he has never done it while awake...and this is no-where near as bad as what he does when he sleeps.

We actually adopted him from an abusive guy who clubbed him on the head, he has had brain surgery and a whole bunch of other stuff in the past.

Vet said he looked healthy, they are running bloodwork. I got the seizure on video and she said it was def. a seizure (not a bad one though).

just stating the obvious... but if he has a history of mild seizures, it's most likely brain damage resulting from past abuse. seizures can and will occur at random, probably for the rest of his life. they may develop into more severe seizures, or remain mild. try giving him lots of water and electrolytes if he seizures again... they can be brought on or aggrivated by dehydration or an electrolyte imbalance.

Yeah, it's wierd that after 8 years they just his seizure problems just started acting up again. I know he has some brain damage (his motor functions are kinda messed up and he walkes like he's drunk all the time). At least he is acting normal now though

a friend's step-father had a fit that "might have been a seizure" when he was in his 20's. over 20 years later, he had a grand mal seizure while driving us all home from florida. he was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with epilepsy...

the brain is a tricky thing.

I had mild petite mal seizures in 4th grade. I just assumed I daydreamed or something, since it was only kinda like zoning out for a few minutes. One time it happened at football practice while I was running the ball. The next day I had a grand mal seizure in the lunchroom. Apparently I had epilepsy. They put me on depacote for a few years and I've not seen a single symptom since, and that was 11ish years ago.

My cat, when it was a kitten, had a few really bad seizures. After she turned about 1 they just stopped and she's been fine since, and that was also about 7 years ago.
