Currently reading Between the Bridge and the River by Craig Ferguson.
Very good, reminds me a little of Palahniuk's style.

Just finished Sanctuary by William Faulkner, good read.

Tobias Smollett's Humphry Clinker, the poetry of Wordsworth and Shelley, and various books about them.

I'm over British literature.

I used to read The Hobbit and the trilogy every year when high school let out for the summer. slacker

Malcolm Gladwell - Blink
Charles Bukowski - The Post Office
some Philip K. Dick short stories
Hunter Thompson - The Rum Diary (again)
some professional development book for work
saw StillFuchsia mention complete stories by Kafka earlier, I think I might pick up a copy of that next

Currently re-reading The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene

Also on my reading list:

The Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

I've become very interested in 'Internet Economics' lately and after some wikipedia reading, I wanted to get a deeper understanding of it, and added these to my list:

The Long Tail by Chris Anderson
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
Made to Stick by Dan and Chip Heath

If anyone has read any of the above, i'd be interested in your comments.

^Greene strikes me as a scumbag, but I read The Power of Seduction and it was pretty interesting.

Gladwell is AWESOME - definitely on my short list of favorite writers. I read The Tipping Point a few years ago in college and again since. It's really an engrossing read - you'll be finished before you know it. If you like it, check out Blink, as well as his New Yorker archive: http://www.gladwell.com/archive.html

Admitting you like Tucker Max is the literary equivalent of professing your undying love for nu-metal.

I just picked up A Clockwork Orange from the library. I haven't gotten very far, but it seems like a hard read because of the slang. Does it get easier to interpret once you read further?

Yeah, it's a little easier to read later on in the novel when you get used to the vocab.

and we aren't discussing how overrated the books in this thread are, we're just talking about what we've read recently

I just don't want to have this thread degenerate into fights about the over- or underratedness of well-established classics, because it'll turn into a big mess, that's all.

Feel free to say you didn't like a book because of ___, ____ and ___, or that you hate Tucker Max when someone brings it up, but calling a book "overrated" brings up a bunch of side issues (not the least of which is that a book as well-established as Burgess's is rated highly for a reason).
