as douchey as this is going to sound, I wouldn't expect people who are going to pay upwards of $50 for a black keys show to walk away realizing st vincent writes and plays circles around them, so there's no real risk of the opening act upstaging them, at least not from a majority of the audience's perspective. aside from the obvious answer of "increased exposure and paying the bills," i can't see why an artist of her caliber would want to be sandwiched in between cage the elephant and the black keys outside of a festival. but cool on them for bringing her along

I think it's pretty daring. Seems like something she would do. Dingus don't feel bad, i thought the same thing. I don't think she will upstage them as far as crowd enthusiasm in that venue.

For Black Key bros who care, I recommend "Marrow" as your first St. Vincent song.

I've never seen a Black Keys show. Do they do much "show" stuff? Their aesthetic would suggest not but there's no way of telling.

I ask only because the last run of St. Vincent shows were some of the most technically-advanced/choreographed/"showy" indie rock shows I've ever seen.

Whether she'd pull that out for a support slot is 50/50, I suppose, but still.

there wasn't much show stuff the 2 times i saw them, but both of those times were at festivals. as a casual black keys fan who liked some of their very early songs, the first show i saw was fun because i was hammered with a bunch of friends, but there was no "show" stuff. dan auerbach just kind of ran around everywhere. the second time was on the main stage at bonnaroo, and it was pretty boring. but maybe they do more stuff now. i don't intend to find out.

i doubt annie clark will carry over much of anything from her most recent tour. i thought it was great, but i can't see that going over well with a bunch of people who might not be familiar with her work.

The theatrical interludes will probably go, but I don't know why they wouldn't keep the song-specific lighting rigs.

i just assume they wouldn't go through the trouble of setting up any of that stuff for her if she's not the main act, but i also don't know how long it takes to set up and break down

I need to vent, sorry in advance

So I preordered the Black Keys album, which I don't even like that much, so I could get access to the presale tickets. Then they go and let any asshole with a Citi card participate in the presale. I was all ready to go at 10 AM today and by the time I hit search all GA tickets sold out already for Brooklyn. I wish I could return the album

^ damn that sucks

there are often presales via the band or fan club before the larger tickmaster presales...did they not have one for that show? were you refreshing the page every couple seconds starting at like 9:59:45?

i had a similar thing happen with the Avett Brothers NYE show. from what i can tell, all the pit tickets sold out in the fan club presale as there were none available during the ticketmaster presale.

I wasn't aware of any other presale, but could have happened, I'm not in their fanclub.

I was on the site refreshing beforehand yes...maybe they just didn't have GA tickets during the presale, I would guess they did.

The other thing that's bs is on Ticketmaster it says this artist has opted for "Paperless Tickets" for this event, meaning you have to bring the credit card you bought the tix with to the event. Yet there are 1400 tix on Stubhub already that can be sent via UPS. How did those people get actual tickets?

Wow I just looked into that show. Can't find any fanclub presale or anything, and that's a huge GA section so I don't know how they could sell out *that* quick. Crazy. I'm sure the scalpers are good but I doubt they're that good.

I'd definitely contact TM to figure out what's going on.

The only GA tickets on SH are like $6000, so I wouldnt worry about that. Only some of the tix are paperless. Cheaper ones are not.

I sent Ticketmaster and email, but I'm sure their response will be "presale tickets were limited, sorry you didn't get any"

Mostly I'm just pissed that they didn't give album preorder people even like a 20 minute headstart on Citi card holders. Kind of defeats the purpose of preordering an album...outside of getting access to the presale, what exactly would the benefit of preordering be at this point? Everyone can buy it and download it at the same time, besides they opened it up fro streaming last week anyways...if you want a physical copy you can go to the store today and get one before the one you preordered is delivered. So I'm left with the presale, which was open to all those limited amounts of people who have an account with this tiny bank Citigroup.

We'll see if I get them when the general sale is up on Friday I guess

Not sure where you preordered from, but these days most preorders ship so that they arrive on or before release date.

Was on the system today before 10AM all set up with 3 different browsers on 2 different computers. First few searches for 4 GA tickets as soon as it opened? nothing

After about 15 minutes of searching for just 1 ticket I was able to get 1. Since then been continually searching for 1 GA and got nothing...I give up

^^ the former more so than the latter. you don't see too many bands that toil for as long as they did before achieving that level of success. there are plenty of bands I don't like but can totally understand why they're popular. the black keys are one of them, but that's not why I made the statement. that being said, i do have a couple tracks from thickfreakness on a "hanging out drinking beer" playlist

Diarrhea Planet are very entertaining.

But goddamn, that is the least tasteful shredding I've ever seen.

Yonatan Gat played another set downstairs after the show, which was rad.

Has anyone attended the Duke Garden's shows? I went to the King Khan & the Shrines show a couple nights ago, and for the most part, the crowd was kinda lame. Almost everyone sat the entire time, and half the people weren't even paying attention to the band. Finally, on the last song and the encore, a few dozen people finally made there way to the stage and danced. I think it's probably just due to the fact that it's at 7:00 in the garden, it was a lot of families, and I think a lot of the people didn't really come for the band (and might not have even heard of him) but instead for the event.

SPiderbags and the Rosebuds are playing there on the 18th and 25th of this month.

Weezer show was good. Sound was surprisingly good. DPAC still isn't my favorite venue for a rock show by any means, but I'd go back for the right band(s).

Rivers said they'd be back here in the fall, but I haven't seen any mention of where/when they'd be returning anywhere else. Anyone else have any knowledge about another Weezer show in the area coming this fall?

Lame crowd for sure. Quieter folk bands can barely be heard when it's super packed (and I've never been there and it wasn't shoulder to shoulder picnic spreads) and the audio is bad to begin with. I was thinking about Spider Bags or The Rosebuds maybe.
