you don't just "get invites" when you get on the site

you sorta have to earn them (well, you have to have a good ratio and stuff)

you know, i'll admit i'm guilty of closing down the client when i shut down for the evening, and rarely open it back up unless im going to start another download...

but how can i know for sure (even with these "invite-only" tracker sites) that the MPAA/RIAA/etc. isn't on the other end of the line, writing down my IP address? what's to keep their agents from getting an invite?

and is bittorrent traffic encrypted? if so, does that depend on the tracker? because all this closed tracker stuff wouldn't even matter if your ISP can just watch what you're downloading...

I, too, have more invites...and as far as the RIAA and all that goes, from what I understand the private tracker OiNK uses isn't nearly as visible as all the other torrent and P2P services out there so the likelihood that an individual in the OiNK network gets busted is virtually zero. But you know how liberally they use the "virtually" bomb these days...

true, but ive never had any problems finding anything and everything ive wanted on it.

i was surprised that it took people so long to really find out about it (i guess because its "invite only" thats helped). but as soon as it catches on all over college campuses (which it looks like its doing now) then its going to gain more and more attention...which will eventually be its demise.

so download as much as you can now while its still around.

its been around for a long time because its been kept relatively underground for so long.

im not saying that its going to get shut down tomorrow, but ive seen a recent surge in the number of people who know about it and use it. it used to be somewhat of a challenge to get invites...now they hand them out left and right.

all im saying is that the more attention it gets, then the more people know about it who would want it shut down.

that worked when the site was broken, but now it's moving to oink.cd

I just reseeded all my shit through the .cd site (I didn't redownload it), so hopefully that'll work

well, it works both ways

they're really picky about what they let people upload, but that means any torrent you get from that site is going to be quality stuff

^^ updating your hosts file means your computer doesn't even check with the DNS servers, it just goes straight to the IP in your hosts file

even if oink.me.uk didn't exist, never existed, whatever, if you have that in your hosts file your computer will recognize it and just use the ip there



long story short, if it's in the host file, it's just as good as using the IP directly

i did upload a couple mixtapes/instrumental albums that were NOWHERE on the site and a few people downloaded them and I got ratio credits, but then for some reason they removed them from the site...no idea why
