So, who's doing track events around here?
I've got Roebling this weekend, and Rockingham Oct 6/7, thinking about Watkins Glen the weekend after.
If you've got some events coming up, post them up! Ahmet 9/26/2007 1:10:23 AM |

Roebling is with NASA SE, but all spots are full. I'm doing it mostly to compare my times from last year (I will be doing time trials) with this M3/current set up.
Anyway, Oct 6-7 is with THSCC at Rockingham, and I'm doing that to finally join their instructor pool...
I don't think I'll be doing Watkins Glen because I wanted to go to Niagara Falls while I was up there, and visit a friend in Canada, Rich/Rex aren't going to be able to make it, and I don't want to go with just my car and the girlfriend in case something happens to the car on track, we'd be really screwed. Well, that and the fact that THSCC is making me pay, and brakes/tires etc. I'm not going to want to do 3 track events in one week.
I book my track events through trackschedule.com, but I'm starting to discover she doesn't include too many events from the Northeast, I want to run Lime Rock Park pretty soon (with NASA, you guessed it, North East), and it's not listed. None the less, it's a good source to book through.
Callahan, you little sissie, you don't even do track events anymore.
Quinn, sell one of your 14 Hondas and buy a roll bar already. They're not that expensive, +all the honeys will think you're a hardcore geek. Make sure you get anodized lug bolts too, those are all the rage in the Honda world I hear. :p Hardy har har.

Quinn's probably in the same boat I am...there's no rollbar established as safe in the S2000, especially without removing the interior. I've talked to Harddog (who is producing the most popular and to my knowledge the only SCCA legal S2000 bar that isn't custom), but his bar currently designed for an S2000 with the interior still in. This puts the harness bar pretty damn high to clear the center console and such. He's supposed to design one that is slightly further back and has a lower, proper harness bar, but I haven't heard much about it yet. I need to give him a call.
So, for me, it's not about money, it's about figuring out who can do it, what I need exactly, etc.
P.S. The search has been so frustrating for me (since I'm a total newb about track car safety) that I've seriously considered just buying an E30 track rat until I learn enough to not screw myself over when I get a bar for the S. The arguments about safety of a bar on S2ki are pages long, ugh.

I'm a total n00b when it comes to tracking/auto x/etc.
Is there anywhere that I can take a completely stock car and run on a course?
Do I HAVE to have a rollbar for all types of events?
I just want to push my lil 4cyl 03 Accord to its limits. 9/26/2007 4:15:49 PM |

Eh on the S2k rollbar, why not just go custom? I see lots of S2ks on track, and they're not all stripped cars...
Auto-xes are cool, I'd like to do a couple more. Not auto-xed in a few years now.
Engin, you're talking about buying a bling/new BMW, please quit the whining. Ahmet 9/26/2007 4:16:01 PM |

^ I really just need to bug Harddog and get him to design the bar he was talking about as a custom bar for my car. Its really a time/laziness thing for me right now I guess. Luckily I have the Civic to drive while he's working on it. God I want to get back to the track.
^^You don't have to have a bar for most HPDE track events, only convertibles like my S2000. I recommend an AutoX if you just wanna try it out though. Then if you like it, try an HPDE. 9/26/2007 4:19:42 PM |

I'm in the same boat with my S2000. Not interested in modifying it, but I wish I could do track events. I'll probably just sell it and get another bimmer or an STi. I've been thinking hard about an e36 M3 lately, but I think I want to get something newer/lower mileage and actually hang onto it for a while.
^ You'll do better if you swap that CAI off. I'm pretty sure that bumps you out of the stock class which is going to really hurt you if that's your only mod.

chance, people have hobbys and interests, ours happens to be motorsports.
some of these guys on here dont spend much on anything else except for their cars. its kind of like a GF.
some of these events are less expensive than others. i think the porsche event we did was around $250 for VIR full for 2 days, which is a steal compared to other events.
but then you add the cost of a lot of other things.
if you notices, a lot of these guys on here played the whole track game like a lot of other things they play, they get all into it at first, then it dies down.
its all about spreading your knowledge and not getting it all at once. 10/5/2007 9:07:56 AM |

Track events can get expensive however, and Rex doesn't pay nearly enough. I run a lemonade stand with Mark on the weekends to pay for the difference. Ahmet 10/5/2007 11:24:24 AM |
