We aren't pulling it off with teeth. But he will pull it off and throw it to the bachelors. Then whoever catches the garter toss gets to dance with whoever catches the bouquet. I like the tradition because it's something that ties my wedding to the rest of my families'.

For the garter we're throwing, I'm picking something that I know my fiance will enjoy and it'll be a surprise for him. For instance, my brother in law is a big State fan, so I got her a wolfpack garter to be the one she threw. He really liked it when he saw what it was, and so did the rest of the groomsmen there.

You should have whoever catches the garter put it on the lady who catches the bouquet.

The higher the garter on the leg, the more fruitful the union of the bride and groom, so the story goes.

i've seen both the person that catches the bouquet & garter dancer to together, and i've been on the receiving end (caught the bouquet) in a wedding where the person that caught it put it on my leg

what about ingrid michaelson's "the way i am"?

i'm not completely sure what i think about this. we do not want one of the traditional older type cheesy songs. i think it's cute, and it's short at 2:09 so that's great, and a lot of the lyrics work for us (except the rogaine part, don't need that...yet). the song starts with an upright bass kinda thing so it does allude(?) back to traditional songs in that sense (not sure if that makes sense to anybody else, but it sounded right to me).

we're having non-traditional ceremony music and are using Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am" during the prelude.

we haven't decided on a 1st dance yet...though I got some ideas. my favorite being rolling stone's "not fade away"...short, uptempo, and more our kind of "dancing"

there's usually a song selected for when the mother's are seated
then processional (groom & bridal party entrance)
then bride's entrance
recessional (bride & groom exit)
postlude while guests exit

ah ok thanks. the wedding that my band wrote music for we just did 3 pieces. 1 for people to get seated, a separate for the bride, and an exit, so I wasn't sure. And yes we'll probably do not traditional music for all that stuff too...i guess that means I'll have to start looking at music. I'll probably stick to explosions in the sky, sigur ros, and other instrumental stuff.

I've got most of our pieces picked out. We've separated songs even more than most people do. It's an outdoor ceremony with a string quartet. We're having a thirty minute prelude, the grandmothers will walk down to Because God Made Thee Mine, the Mothers will come in to Clair De Lune, the bridal party processional is Canon in D (I know it's overdone, but my sister LOVES this song.

The song I will walk down the aisle to is Bon Giorno Principessa composed By Nicola Piovani. It's one of the main songs from Life is Beautiful.

For our unity candle ceremony we're doing Be Thou My Vision.

We haven't quite decided on our recessional yet. I kind of like the recessional from Cinderella, but we also like the fanfare ceremony from Star Wars

We're only doing cake for our dessert. I don't see a reason to have more than one. Especially when our cake cost $500 for 100 people. But some receptions are just desserts. So, instead of having any other food, you have a chocolate station, or a cheesecake station, or a cookie station, etc.

we're doing a dessert table b/c FI doesn't like cake...hell he doesn't like most sweets, and i'd rather have those types of desserts than a wedding cake myself.

to appease the gods (ahem...my mother) we're getting a cake (a simple 2 layered tiered round cake from lowe's foods b/c other bakeries ARE expensive) to cut for tradition. a large sheet cake will be in the back that can be cut for guests.

so...in our case to have a dessert display we're cutting the cost of the wedding cake. which is how anyone should approach their wedding budget--spend less on one thing so you can get want you want out of another.

^Exactly. We're splurging on a cake, but cutting back on the expenses for food. Our meal cost is actually going to come in for less that $500 for 100 people. We went with the place we chose for cakes mostly because we know it's good, and that's what his mother wanted. I gave a little bit on the price to keep her happy! But, that doesn't mean I don't 100% love the cake we chose, it was just more expensive than I had planned.

watching this show on style about a couple that is engaged, but trying to loose weight. to meet each of their 4-week goals they give them a gift if they reach it. the first one was an amazing venue for the reception and the ceremony, plus a catered reception. The one they're working on right now is to get all the flowers for the wedding if they hit their goal.

I think most of the people with dessert tables don't have a big fancy wedding cake, the dessert table is in lieu of that. One of my friend is doing martini glasses with gelato and madelines, and then a small cake edged with madelines that they'll cut into. It's costing them a lot less than what a traditional wedding cake would run them.

So the wedding drama continues. At least her mom paid half of the bridesmaid dress. But now the bridal shower that I said that I would attend has been changed again. It's now the weekend of march 14th, instead of the next weekend. Flights to SC are already up over $400, and I cannot afford that.

The bachelerotte weekend was the other option to attend, which two weekends before the wedding. Unfortunately, my family planned a trip to Disney world back in december, which I'm attending.

Guess I'm just not going to either now. So frustrating being the only out of town person in this wedding party!

I think sushi sounds awesome! We thought about that but she really doesn't like sushi, its a lot more expensive, and I don't think a lot of her family likes it either. Plus the guy said the fajita station is one of the best things they have there so there you go.

The other station will be a pasta station so I think we'll have something for everyone. These two stations are pretty neat too because she's a big Italian food, pasta eater and I love Mexican so it is something that kindof defines us in a way there in the food stations. I think its kinda cool.
