I didnt see a thread about this under the search tool (not that it works) but I just saw the two trailers for this on IMDB and I geeked out.

Enjoy:

Why?? When will Lucas stop?

Sad thing is, this movie will probably make a shit ton of money because there are enough Star Wars geeks out there that will still go and watch this movie regardless of the fact that the last three sucked.

Jabba the Hutt's son? Really?

I'm tired of the franchise continuously dragging old characters out and giving them new back story so that they can have a more galactic presence in the star wars story. Its getting old when it turns out that little wikkit from the first trilogy actually married Chewbacca's parents and told them to go to the wookie homeworld, where they meet Yoda who pulls strings and arranges for Chewbacca to become the warleader of the clan they joined.

I mean fuck, come on.

^wow, really? You can't spare 30 seconds of Bud Light Lime advertising.

The last two were amazing. People love to bash new things when in reality they grew out of liking them by the time the newer ones came out but the old ones still had nostalgic value. As a kid when you see something theres a certain love you gain that can't be replaced. Its you.

I thought there was supposed to be a live action TV series.

Also, didn't Cartoon Network already cover the clone wars?

^From what I've been told, those covered between Ep 2 & 3 whereas these will cover between Ep 3 & 4. Stuff like Luke growing up and all that other crap they jumped over.

...that trailer is over a year old now

i wonder if they've retooled the story...if it's anything like the cartoon network clone wars stuff, it'll have no problem being way more awesome than any of the live-action prequels...general grievous was such a badass in those

genndy tarkovsky nailed it

Exactly. This is probably a gripe that I should post in the movie cliches thread, but I get so sick and tired of recurring characters or people related to them appearing throughout stories. Why does the universe have to depend upon the same five or six people everytime, and then later on depend upon their descendants? It's not necessarily bad if it's built into the story (eg Anakin and Luke), but recycling the exact same characters over and over is just lazy writing.

The second and third of the prequel series were pretty good IMO.

I don't know if an animated movie will work. Maybe, maybe not.

The #1 thing which bothers me about these is a single line from one of the trailers.

Yoda: "Anakin Skywalker is the Republic's only hope."

Um... what...?! This is COMPLETELY out of character for Yoda. He seriously doubted Anakin's worthiness to be a Jedi from the very beginning. He knew there was something unstable about Anakin, and he had serious reservations about anything involving Anakin. Everything else in this new series I might try to be open minded about (although Anakin having an apprentice makes NO sense), but I have to draw the line right here.

Will I still go see this? Yeah. But stuff like this just shows me more than ever that the magic of the original series is just gone from the prequel-related material.

And that is a very sad thing.

I think the preview looked pretty terrible. Honestly, the editing job was terrible. It was just a bunch of unrelated scenes strung together with overly dramatic John Williams music. Still, I think the movie/tv series could still be good, or at least decent.

Keep in mind that this movie is the launching point for the new clone wars TV series, which is going to air this fall on Cartoon Network and, I think, TNT. It's not a remake of the old series from 2004 - 2005, but all new material.

V0LC0M - What do you mean you "read" the clone wars? Are you talking about the nine volume comic series, or maybe some of the tie-in novels, like "Labyrinth of Evil"?

TJB627 - Wrong, this is still between 2 and 3.

Here's what annoys me about the movie:

1) The little twi'lek girl in the trailer is Anakin's padawan - WFT? Why? There's never been a mention of it until now. Plus, it's not like Anakin ever showed any sort of teaching skills or responsibility. I wouldn't trust him to take care of my dog.

2) Jabba the Hutt's son is named "Stinky the Hutt"...

wow you guys are overly critical about this shit

to answer Rem's question, my parents have a novel that was printed in the late 80s, entitled the Clone Wars. It is no longer in production/circulation.

I have also read the comic series and Labyrinth of Evil.

However, I do not remember any mentioning of Jabba's son. That does seem a little cooky.

I wish George Lucas would stop shitting up the Star Wars franchise, but I guess there's still enough stupid people out there that will give him money so he'll just keep doing it.

I've just watched the latest SW movies for the special effects. I bet you can do a "better", more impressive lightsaber fight in computer animation than life-action. Who cares about the storyline at this point? It just looks cool.

I won't be seeing it, I'm not into this complete CGI business. The animated series was cool when I could catch it, but that was free. Plus, with the stupid shit already mentioned in this thread (Anakin's padawan? Fucking serious?) fuck that.

I think they should start making movies using the extended universe. There were some great books on this stuff that didn't involve a single skywalker or solo. I liked "I, Jedi" when I was younger, and the rogue squadron? stuff.

I may be wrong, but I think this theatrical release is only a small bit of a larger series which will be aired on TV.

^ thats a whole other thread entirely. I, Jedi was one of my all time favorite sci fi books. Rogue Squadron series is way way up there too.

I wont lie, I'll see this CGI fest in July. Why not, it looks like a good summer evening movie to fall back into Star Wars with. And if they redo other Clone Wars cartoons like they had on cartoon network before, I'll try to watch them too.

Shit i already try to catch the new transformers/spider-man on saturday mornings. Might as well complete the set.

and the Jedi can actually whip ass like they are supposed to and not gay it out like they did in the last scene of the Attack of the Clones (with the exception of Yoda's fight, of course).

both yoda fight scenes from the last two were awesome, unfortunately they couldnt write in that he would actually win because that would mess up the story

there should have been some throwaway badass villain that he actually got to defeat, that would have made him more badass and more relevant

I was not geeking when I first saw it. In fact it ruined that whole scene for me. Most everyone around me in the theater was whooping and hollering but I could only feel embarassment for the franchise.

Yeah seeing Yoda fight was a rush (pulling the lightsaber from his holster to his hand with the force was also nice), but once you get past that it's pretty weak

^^That's precisely the problem, you've got an old man fighting a 3 ft CGI imp, there's not much else they can do. Come to think of it, some force pushing and hurling objects could've been fun to watch. Without the geek factor the fight is just silly and falls FAR short of the Darth Maul fight and anything in episode III.

I always imagined Yoda would have a seamless fluid, conservative fighting style, not hopping around like an hopped up coke-head or at least moved beyond light sabers completely.
