^ Is that place right on the river? I think I went there once as a kid with my grandparents and my extended family, but I was never sure exactly where it was.

Yep, the building is about 30 feet from the Roanoke.

If I remember correctly we ate on a deck that ran down the side of that building. My grandparents loved that place. I'll have to check it out again the next time I head that way. It has probably been over 25 years since I've been there. I still have some fossilized shells from the driveway/parking lot.

if you go, just make sure that they're open. they're only there during herring season, which is january to april.

and yeah, the food is pretty average. I usually get flounder or something with my herring just because herring doesn't do much for me, and herring is the main reason to go. My dad and I usually go every year, at least once or twice.

The new El's in Morehead (in the building that was a Port City Java / Cold Stone) is really awful.

The El's that is in Cypress Bay Plaza (between Hwy 24 and 70, across 70 from the Crystal Coast Shopping Centre--Panera/Chic-Fil-A/Arbys/Michael's/Ashley's Furniture/all-that-jazz) turned into Plaza Mexico, and it's the best option now I think...

Went to Yana's in Swansboro for the first time EVER a month ago... not sure what the fuck kept me from going there before.

I saw that cypress grill pic and immediately went into the wayback machine.

Now I want a pound of cheddar from Martin Supply Co.

...I was only a little buzzed when I wrote that, no real excuse, but I meant El Zarape.

El's is still there, though I ate there the other week and it was disappointing.
