I set up an appointment two weeks ago for them to come install TV and internet. They are scheduled to set it up tomorrow morning...
...they just called me and said I'm too far from the nearest junction box.

^^^hell yeah it did. I set up an appointment a while back via the internet, even chatted with the "tech support" to make sure i signed up for what I wanted.
Today the technician came by to make sure things are good for installing tomorrow. Then I got a phone call here at work saying the nearest junction box is about 6,000 ft away. This is crap, two of my friends (living in opposite directions nearby) both have it!!!!
Can I get TWC without a contract? B/c as soon as AT&T is available (they "assure me" it'll happen soon) I will drop them like a bad habit.

I had even just talked earlier today with U-Verse b/c I had to change something with my order. And they practically shoved down my throat a free channel upgrade to U300 for a month and two months free HBO.
Not to mention $300 cash rebate 8/10/2009 3:54:26 PM |

see if you can talk them into doing it anyway.
they can apply a lower-speed provisioning profile to your account that works a whole lot better over longer distances. i'm a little over 4500 feet from the VRAD and our line tests at 43mbps, if that tells you anything. 8/10/2009 3:58:09 PM |

don't pay more than you have to. I remember paying $85/month for digital package + RR. Don't know about the price nowaday though. 8/10/2009 3:59:07 PM |

I was on the phone with them for like half an hour, and talked to a technician supervisor. They say I'm like 6,000 ft from the nearest box and the signal is too weak.
As far as internet shit, all we were going for was the Pro package, which is only DL speed of 3.0Mbps 8/10/2009 3:59:25 PM |

I gave up a faster internet speed, lots of standard channels, and DVR capability in the bedrooms and my bill's $18 less than U-Verse.
Sigh...but no $300 cash rebate either 8/10/2009 4:53:58 PM |

regular price of road runner internet is $49.95 right now. standard cable (no digital, only 70 channels) is $39.95 at best. so i'm not sure when you were getting $85 for digital cable/internet through TWC but it wasn't anytime in the last few years unless it was an introductory rate that lasted 6 months at best.] 8/10/2009 8:13:21 PM |

^^if we just had internet we'd have been satisfied customers. but the cable box rebooted every other day, our HD channels would freeze so much it made some stuff almost impossible to watch, and the whole "2 channel DVR max" really sucked.
we're so happy with AT&T now
^no contracts for us, we signed up in February.

I just looked at TWC's website and the HD service is A LOT better than when I moved. Even though it sucks no U-Verse, I at least get MLB Network HD now at the very least... no SNY though 8/10/2009 8:23:08 PM |

Yeah I had to sweet talk retentions to give my grandparents(10+ year customers) a better basic cable rate ($60 vs $43) today. I can't believe they charge that much and pretty much raise rates on the reg'
Their bundle seems ok though I guess. 8/10/2009 8:24:28 PM |
khcadwal All American 35165 Posts user info edit post |
yea i've had trouble with TWC NON Hd channels freezing too. but especially HD ones. and everytime i call they're like "come get a new box" so i go get a freaking new box and nothing happens. so then they send someone to check - nothing is fixed. its like i pay for something that has problems that NEVER get fixed. so i finally talked them into a lower rate because it was ridiculous.
for me the uverse looks cheaper than what i paid for twc. 8/10/2009 8:28:06 PM |
thumper All American 21574 Posts user info edit post |
yeah we got 2 or 3 new boxes with TWC and nothing ever got fixed.
our AT&T is actually cheaper each month by about $20. of course, saving money is great - but we have more HD channels, 4 channels that can DVR at once (instead of only 2 on TWC), all the movie channels (instead of just HBO), and a whole slew of other things that are just plain better than TWC.] 8/10/2009 8:32:16 PM |
TKE-Teg All American 43410 Posts user info edit post |
FUCK TWC. Sure I have digital cable, internet, HBO, and the sports package for similar money. But instead of having a DVR that can record 4 shows I have a DVR that can record one. And instead of having boxes in the bedrooms that can access the DVR I have regular boxes (guess I'll have to record shit on the VCR again). Instead of having HD for every HBO channel I have it on one channel.
I get shitty customer service instead of awesome customer service.
I get a slow ass internet connection (which we will upgrade if we can't stand it)
I get shitty digital cable software
I get shitty HD reception that freezes and pixelates whenever I try to DVR something in HD 8/10/2009 11:24:00 PM |
