if I wanted to drive around and show people some really rich areas where all could I go? Trying and stay inside the beltline or fairly close outside.

And if you're confused what meaning of rich I'm using, let's say people who have beach houses and pets named Fifi

Hayes-Barton would be an excellent choice. It lies (roughly) in between Glenwood and St. Mary's street, just north of Wade Avenue. There is also the Carolina Country Club area, north of Glenwood and west of Lassiter Mill.

There are also really nice houses in Oakwood, which occurs west of Person street, near the Governor's mansion, and even in Cameron Park between Cameron Village and Hillsborough. But those might not be "rich" by your definition. Oakwood might though, and it's full of victorians.

McMansions or old money? Hayes Barton/ 5 points area for old money styles, various neighborhoods north of 540 on six forks and falls of neuse for mcmansions.

nothing special about brier creek, mixed use with a few cookie cutter mcmansions

From Five Points, drive down fairview and turn left onto St. Mary's St.

Drive around (or better, walk) that neighborhood... Will blow your mind. It is better to walk, because then you will have time to actually see the immense and immaculately landscaped yards/compounds that some of those houses sit on.... Keep in mind that this is inside the beltline in the most desired area of the city. Those lots are worth $TEXAS.

^^That's Hayes-Barton. Probably the epitome of old-money Raleigh.

The Hayes-Barton area has some crazy stuff. I used to rent a house over on Fairview when I was a student. I'd go for a walk/run/bike in the area. They have some of the most well maintained property in Raleigh. The lots that the homes sit on alone are worth bank.

The areas around Carolina Country Club off Glenwood have probably the largest and most expensive homes in Raleigh. Go to FMrealty.com, put "inside the beltline" for the area, and put $1,000,000 for the minimum price. Most of the homes on the first page are in that area.

Five Points for sure. But go out to the Swans Mill Crossing and Lockhart Lane area and you'll see some mini-mansions on large well-manicured lots--I think most are in the $750K to $1.5 million range.

The Drewry Hills area off of 6 forks has some really nice houses. Particularly the 300 block of Marlowe, and the 400 block of Drummond Rd.

Just make sure you and/or your friends aren't minorities, or the rich old people will call the cops about colored folk casing houses.

go over by CCC

there are a few giant houses over there but mostly all of those north hills/CCC/etc/ITB places are "rich" because of the location/property value.

and yea cameron park (woodburn) in between hillsb and cameron village also has pricey houses - though they probably don't look like it cause they're not like, mcmansions.

Those areas are nice and all, but why do you want to look at really rich houses? That's still unclear.

^^some of them don't look very impressive, but the price is--e.g. there's a 700 sq ft house up the street for $275,000

I'm not sure if op was looking for houses where rich people lived or rich houses. The houses in most of these areas named inside the beltline have high value because of the land, not the house. Many of these houses are nice, but not really impressive at all. If the original owners live in them, they may not be rich at all but they sell for a lot in recent years. Also, just because a house is new doesn't mean its "new money" do you know what new money and old money even mean?

Homes in wakefield like where the hurricanes owner lives blow any house inside the beltline away.

wakefield plantation and some of the neighboring areas around falls lake.

The MOST expensive homes are tucked in 30 acre, gated fences, inside the beltway, but those are not really neighborhoods... they are amazing though.

Isn't the most expensive house in Raleigh on Oberlin? I'm sure you all know which one I'm talking about. Has the huge ass yard, stone wall around it, etc. I kind of remember them saying it sold for over $2 million about 10 years.

There are only two houses you need to show them.

The one in this thread: message_topic.aspx?topic=572605

and 7021 Ebenezer Church Rd.

The Parade of Homes is going down this weekend. They're not the biggest or the best (and they're definitely going to be more modest this year), but you get to walk around in them and check out the latest in design.

Maybe your friends would be into it.

I dunno.

That is certainly impressive for the "new money" vibe. I still think the best examples of "really rich" areas are the best of the ITB neighborhoods--i.e. Hayes-Barton and Carolina Country Club. The houses may not be quite as impressive (unless you have an appreciation of old-school, interesting architecture) but those two areas are old money personified.

'old money' does not mean old houses

it means the passing of wealth from generation to generation. 'old money' is really a definition of a people, not a place or location

True, but if it sold for over $2 million 10 years ago imagine what it must be worth now.

Quote :
"The 9,900-square-foot homestead and the nine well-groomed acres it stands on have a tax value of $3.2 million."

yay google

This is a beautiful home. Owner is the gentleman developing the Soleil Center at Crabtree. Beautiful home...has over 40+ flat screens, squash court, basketball court, pool and greco, etc...this is comparable to the Playboy Mansion...took 2 hours to tour the whole house.
