Does anyone ever get the sense that the UNC staff digresses from pregame prep to coordinate ties before each game?

i tuned in and Larry Drew II had just thrown the ball out of bounds and GT scores to make it 60-44 or something like that. Then they call a bogus offensive foul on a screen that never took place against GT, and it was all over from there; just enough injustice to demoralize GT for long enough. The announcers had been saying how Roy kept harping on the officials to call the illegal screens, except this one didn't actually happen.

This is what people don't understand about the Carolina bias. It's not EVERY call, its calls at very very crucial times of the game. Of course, they needed Graves to shoot unconcious to even have a chance, but its those little calls that come out of nowhere, or the no-calls.

Another fitting loss though.

btw, whoever made this thread was a genius

I would argue that Roy is a phenomenal recruiter but as an in game coach he is average at best. He plays one style of basketball and that is it. When was the last time you saw a UNC team with a Half-court game. If they don't get it on a fast break they better hope the ref bails them out.
I really think the reason that he doesn't call timeouts when his ass is getting kicked is because he knows his own inadequacies. Why else would he not have called a timeout when his team was getting it's asses handed to it by Kansas in the NCAAs?

aahahaha, just like a UNC fan. Apparently GT won because their gold uniforms were too bright

Quote :

To Whom It may Concern (The ACC, ESPN, FSN and anyone else who televises UNC basketball or advertises during these games):

I am over 5O, and I have watched ACC basketball throughout my lifetime. I am a loyal Tar Heel, a UNC alumnus, member of the alumni association and the Rams Club.

I am writing to tell you that I did not watch the UNC-Georgia Tech game today because the visiting team did not wear a contrasting colored jersey. Their gold jerseys are too light, and they use dark numbers as well, so they look too much like the home team's white jerseys. I'm old enough to remember black and white TV, and I have no desire to go back to it, but at least people had enough sense then to wear contrasting uniforms.

I WILL NOT WATCH ANOTHER GAME WHEN THE VISITORS REFUSE TO WEAR CONTRASTING JERSEYS.

If you want these teams to wear disco gold jerseys with dark numbers, have them do it as a home uniform. Explain to your advertisers that you think it's more important for Georgia Tech, Florida State, Boston College and Wake Forest to look cute than to reach the maximum number of viewers and have higher ratings.

I hereby boycott your product until you rectify the situation. I ask my fellow IC poasters to join me in this boycott by poasting.

I WILL NOT WATCH ANOTHER GAME WHEN THE VISITORS REFUSE TO WEAR CONTRASTING JERSEYS.

Signed, therabidrev

isn't it the responsibility of the home team to have a change jersey in case their shit contrasts with the visiting team?

first it was the Kansas pin Roy wore during the NCAA tournament

Then it was kicking out a Presbyterian fan for "taunting"...

Now, its who he's letting in the "house that dean built"...

This little nugget from the Carolina basketball hosting of North Carolina Special Olympians on Sunday..

Quote :
"Linda Branch, for example, plays for the Wake County team - and she wore her N.C. State jacket to the event. But after playing against Zeller in a 5-on-5 half-court scrimmage the 19-year-old said she might be a "little bit" more of a UNC fan. The most important thing she learned: "How not to pass it to somebody that's not on my team," she said, laughing."

"In case UNC fans and players didn’t know it, Ol’ Roy Williams has a pretty dim view of you. From his radio show:

"I have more desire in my little finger than all of the dadgum Carolina fans in the world."

Things aren’t going as smoothly. I don’t think I can go out there and say, ‘Okay, we’re going to get on the end line and we’re going to run 500 sprints.’ We ran a set play this morning in practice and I said, ‘Dexter, what are you doing?’ And he said, ‘Coach, I don’t know what to do.’ ‘Well, whose fault is that – mine or yours? This is practice No. 53, son.’"

Roy Williams thought he could just ride in on the UNC coattails to victory every year. The truth is, right now, UNC needs a real coach, and not some facade. If Coach K can do this every year without bitching like a little girl, perhaps Roy's true colors are showing this season, and they aren't Carolina Blue.

As true as it may be, that's not the public statement you want to make. I always liked Bear Bryant's approach the best:

Quote :
""If anything goes bad, I did it. If anything goes semi-good, we did it. If anything goes really good, then you did it. That's all it takes to get people to win football games for you.""

Then he struggled a little bit and ESPN did something to me that was very embarrassing [Tuesday]....put up that the kid's 1,175 in field goal percentage in the country. That's ridiculous," an irked Williams said after the 79-67 road loss to Illinois.

"And then somebody says 'well if he hadn't gone 0-for-12 against Minnesota than I'm sure he would be in the top 1,000'.....that's sick. If you've got enough balls to make somebody a big hero like that than admit you were wrong instead of start picking on a kid.""

i wonder if Roy says things like: "we always lose when we're ranked" or "if harrison barnes wasn't the #1 player in the 2010 class, he'd be doing much better."

for a team practically comprised of MickeyD's they looked like garbage against Illinois.

Credibility is on the downward slide.

Joe Ovies with the funnies:

Hyperbole prone coach overreacts to hyperbole

Quote :
"North Carolina coach Roy Williams has said he doesn't feel the same way about this season as he did during last season's disappointment.

I'm having a hard time noticing thanks to Williams' misguided, oversensitive defense of Harrison Barnes.

"If you've got enough balls to make somebody a big hero like that than admit you were wrong instead of start picking on a kid," said Williams after the loss to Illinois.

Interesting that Williams absolves himself of making Barnes a "big hero." He dubbed Barnes "the total package" after the recruiting saga ended with a Skype call. Williams made the rounds at ACC media day comparing Barnes to Tyler Hansbrough, insisting the top high school player in the country had the greatest work ethic of any player he has recruited before.

The official North Carolina athletics website even got in on the act of creating the hard working image. Following a 2-of-9, 6 turnover performance against Barton, Adam Lucas wrote an epic tale of Barnes pounding angry rock music and dribbling the ball in a dark gym until the wee hours in Tar Heel Today.

Now tell me, which party is guilty of myth making?

ESPN, or anyone else who questions why a heralded freshman has struggled, isn't "picking on a kid." Leave that to the bitter Duke fans who are reveling in the post-Skype karma.

In North Carolina's losses this season, Barnes has shot 6 of 33 from the field. On a team in desperate need of a floor leader, he hasn't taken over. Spare the youth talk. It's 2010, where freshman enter the fray and must contribute.

Just look 9 miles down the road for a perfect example."

Have to give Roy credit. He is doing a phenomenal job developing his team this year.

Of course, he still has ridiculous talent, but they are getting better with each passing game. And more importantly, the team from top to bottom has bought in and is playing balls to the wall at both ends of the court. Must be nice to have a team that you can be proud of the intensity and effort night after night.
