in the history of all sports:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4D31DgwDTZ8
Someone can embed if they want to. It's the video of the Xavier girl missing two wide open layups in the Elite 8 against Stanford.
Obligatory [OLD]. I saw the highlights after it happened, but forgot to make the thread until now.
How does this video show why women's basketball if the worst sport in the history of sports you ask??? Because it is a perfect example of how women take the best element of a great sport that men play, and make it unbearable.
Basketball is fun to watch because of the amazing athleticism of men. High-flying dunks and blocks. Acrobatic layups. The ability to jump high enough off of a stand-still to get your shot off against anyone. Split second full-court fast breaks. Reckless drives to the basket by Wade and Lebron. Shut down defenders and fast break blocks. I could go on.
The athletic inferiority of women take away all of that. This girl at Xavier, a scholarship athlete for a team in the Women's Elite 8, missed two wide open layups. WIDE, THE FUCK, OPEN. Women can't dunk, they can't jump high enough or aren't tall enough to make layups like this automatic...7 year old youth squads run quicker fast breaks than the "elite" women. They get more jump shots blocked because, guess what...they can hardly fucking jump.
This probably isn't worthy of a thread...but I absolutely abhor women's basketball. It's a disgrace to the sport of basketball and I don't think it should be a college sport, much less a professional sport (I can't believe there is still a WNBA). The women would have to all be supermodels for me to watch a game for more than 5 minutes. And they are far from it. I'm having a hard time thinking of a women's sport with more ugly and butch looking women than basketball (women's weightlifting and shit like that doesn't count).
That's all....carry on. 4/1/2010 11:26:05 AM |

I'm sure most of them could. I wouldn't be surprised if I could take a couple...at least with a little refresher in my game...I don't play consistently anymore.
But that doesn't really have anything to do with the point of my post. I don't, nor have I ever, played collegiate or professional basketball. Nor am I taking up TV time with my un-watchable playing of a sport.
I would rather watch a men's YMCA game on TV than women's basketball.

One of the coolest things I've seen at a bar.
A few years back on a Tuesday night with absolute no significant sports on. We're there about about 8 o'clock and all they have on is TNT Law and Order and some World's Strongest Man on ESPN Classic. This group of 4 people, 2 men and two women, come in and ask the manager to put on the WNBA game. "We don't show women's basketball here." he replies. "But its the Finals, Shock vs Mystics!" "We don't show women's basketball here. "You're telling me you're going to show Law and Order over Game 5 of one of the best series of all time?" "Once again, sir, we don't show women's basketball here. Guy and the rest of his group leaves; the rest of the bar cheers. 4/1/2010 11:37:29 AM |

women's basketball is a disgrace to the sport.
on all levels
going to my sister's rec games was painful enough, but even if you watch high level women's basketball (ha!) you see balls flying out of bounds, missed layups, airballs, people falling over. it's terrible 4/1/2010 11:53:42 AM |

I've made 74 out of 100 before... but I think it'd probably be more around 55-60 at this point.
And we're talking about NO ONE guarding me. Just shooting around.
I think someone bet me a while back I couldn't make 50 out of 100. I'd do that anytime and anywhere as long as it was an indoor court.
*** And really that is nothing special. In an actual game I'd probably be lucky to make 3 out of 10.

Give up on it?? Fuck it...let 'em play...just don't have it take up time on major networks that could be used for more entertaining sports events/shows.
And are they going to magically get more athletic?? It hasn't gotten any better over the years (marginally better, if that) and it won't get any better. 4/1/2010 12:34:00 PM |

But I liked it because there were actually some cute girls and because I liked bocce. It made me want to grab a case of beer and go to the local ice rink and join a league.
I would so much rather watch women's curling than women's basketball. 4/1/2010 1:23:54 PM |

I think it's being honest.
The true allure of basketball is the amazing things men can do athletically while playing the sport. The top athletes in women's basketball are so far behind the top athletes in men's basketball that it is not even funny. That's why you can have a man who is 5'7" win a dunk contest and a woman who is 6'7" that can't even dunk.
Cold, hard facts. Quit arguing against the truth.4/1/2010 1:26:09 PM |

Male track and field athletes put down much faster times than women. Should we abandon coverage of women's track and field events because of that? 4/1/2010 1:41:53 PM |

It's not that big of a disparity. Male and female sprinters world records are separated by less than a second. World class female sprinters are faster than a lot of college and almost all top high school sprinters. The best female professional and college basketball players would get owned by pretty much every male college basketball player and a shit ton of male high school basketball players.
There's not a sport that comes to mind where the disparities are as great as they are than in basketball. Softball and baseball are pretty big, but at least there are some hotties in softball and it's not televised as much as women's basketball.

Women's hockey is pretty bad...they should take that off the Olympics. That was pretty unbearable to watch. However, it doesn't get a fraction of the regular air time that Women's basketball does. The Olympics was probably the first time I've seen women's hockey in like 10 years (don't remember it from the last Olympics).
Women's soccer isn't that bad. First, although athleticism is key in soccer, "skill" is a bigger part of the game. So not quite as big as gap between the women and men as in basketball (although it is close). And there are better looking women in soccer than basketball...not even close. Heather Mitts is one of the hottest female athletes out there. 4/1/2010 3:50:17 PM |

the key to a good womens sport (or i guess, better than basketball womens sport) is that when you watch women play against women, it is not painfully obvious how bad they are.
tennis i think is the best example of an okay womens sport. basketball is probably the worst. 4/2/2010 7:51:47 AM |
