I'll start:

Looks like the Porsche Club is running a driver's ed event at CMP this weekend. It says "in conjuction with the club race". What's that all about? Anyone want to go?

I think it's a DE with some of the track time reserved for a race one of the days. So I'd imagine less track time for the DE itself, though I could be wrong.

I'd love to say I'll be there, but financially I probably won't be able to attend another DE till the spring or early summer.

Well, the CMP event is solo drivers only this weekend...and they won't let you out there without an instructor if it's your first track day.

...so there's another event next weekend at CMP (Turn One). I can probably make Friday (not Saturday) if anyone wants to go.

i know of 2 different outback sports for sale.

both are pretty cheap priced. and they are both setup for rallyX.

one is in Fayettnam which i dont know anything about, but the one here in wake forest is owned by JANKO cars. it has two sets of rally wheels/tires. its a first place competitor on i think all stock parts. very impressive car.

buy it so i can beat you

speaking of trubos, turbotime will be having a meet and greet on Dec. 5th.

local motorsport organizations (me) should be there to talk about autox/rallyx/road course and such.

I've thought about getting 1.8L DOHC stickers and putting one by each exhaust pipe of my 3.6l twin cam flat 6. I'd probably do "RTRYSWAP" if I had a Z06.

VIR full course on 29-30 Jan. Track Club USA hosting event. $295/both days, $175 single day (early bird by 15 Jan). Event to be cancelled and refunded if inclement weather.

I need to put tires on the Z06, but that's easy. I also need to fix the driver's seat--it rocks back and forth under acceleration/braking. Hopefully easy, but I won't know until I get it removed and taken apart (and won't have a chance to do that for another week or two).

anyone else wanna go?

Gotta do brakes on the Z06 this Friday, but I should have the parts in by then (at least pads and rotors...not sure about the braided hoses, but I can go without those if need be).

Planning on hitting VIR either Saturday or Sunday if my helmet arrives in time. This event doesn't allow motorcycle helmets, so I ordered an SA2010 rated helmet. Unfortunately, I found out a few days ago it was on backorder and wouldn't arrive until next month. I ordered another helmet, but I think it'll be cutting it very close on it arriving in time for the HPDE this weekend.

You may be able to barrow one from an event organizer, or possibly rent up @VIR. Email somebody!1

I may offer rental services as well. I say that to make sure you get off your horse and do something about it, if you don't make this event w/the lamest excuse in the world, I will never read your posts the same way again! :'(

I emailed the event organizers...they don't have any. I've called the VIR pro shop twice, no answer. Left a voicemail...no call back. Emailed VIR to see if they would have rental helmets available this weekend...no response. Emailed the company that's shipping my helmet to see if they could try to hurry the shipment and/or at least give me an idea about arrival date...no response.

All I saw from them were helmets for sale.

I called the 2nd company I ordered a helmet from. It's not even supposed to arrive until Tuesday! That's over a week since I placed the order.

I alwasy rented since my autoX club gives them for free. I was holding back buying one since SA2010 will/is soon in effect. Any recommendations on good vendors for SA2010 helmets? I dont care for graphics and how pretty they are. Is buying a helmet one of those things where it's the best to try it out in person as oppose to ordering blindly online just based from measurements?

If you don't get your braided lines, at least flush the hell out of your fluid. I bet it's nasty as fuck.

Found out the braided lines won't arrive until next week, either...and yeah, I plan to flush it with fresh high-temp fluid...I'm sure the current fluid is nasty and wet.

All of that is a moot point if I can't find a helmet, though. I haven't been able to get in touch with anyone, and I'm not driving all the way from New Bern to VIR just blindly hoping to find a rental/loaner helmet up there.

you really arent gonna find one store a whole lot cheaper than another. and if you do, then store A is probably just inflating their prices. i would order from the store that has them in stock (learning from dukes experience, lol).

i would try them on before you buy. its gonna be on your head for a while. plus you gotta see if it fits in the car. or if you want open face or closed face. its like buying shoes.

anyone want to do jennings gp feb 26-28 with dave sanders? it's a private event unaffiliated with any org. $400 for 3 full track days on a bike only track. I could do CMP with turn one when it gets a little warmer on one of those split group days (half bikes half cars). I'm currently waiting on my suspension though. I also need a harder rear on my spare back wheel for that track. If you're running a soft summer tire, it will be shredded there.

^^^ yeah, I have collision on z06. If I wreck it on track, they'll pay claim, then just not insure me on that specific vehicle anymore. Should be a moot point.

Vette is paid for outright, but I couldn't stomach just writing off that amount of money because I trashed it.

^^^^^
Organizers got back to me...no helmets. Never heard back from VIR...didn't know you could rent there.

someone recommend me a decent entry level auto helmet.
Don't want to really spend a ton, but need one if I plan on actually using the car.

I know more $$ equals more comfort and more options, but really, just want bare bones here.

just find something snell 2010 and dot. those are the minimum requirements to be verified to protect you. check out motorcycle superstore (google it) if bike helmets are acceptable. also, to post here, CMP 3/19 and 3/20, bikes and cars, lock it in.

^^ bike helmets will work for Auto-x but some solo/HPDE's wont allow motorcycle helmets since they arent designed to protect you from multiple hits (roll cage, etc)

^fire protection isn't an issue. You can do an HPDE with an open face helmet if you so chose. a motorcycle helmet is just designed to withstand one hard hit whereas an automobile helmet is designed to withstand several.

^^just about every autox I've attended didn't allow motorcycle helmets, though I'm sure you could have sneaked one in b/c nobody checked.

Anything cheaper by any chance?

Also, how long is a helmet good for, assuming not actually 'used'.

Quote :
"The SA standard was designed for competitive auto racing while M standard was for motorcycling and other motorsports. The K standard was released to accommodate helmets used in karting. There are three major differences between them:
1. The SA standard requires flammability test while the M and K standards do not.
2. The SA and K standards allow for a narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA and K certified helmets may not be street legal).
3. The SA and K standards include a rollbar multi impact test while M standard does not"

so multi impact & flammability were both right

^^^the HJC AR10 is a little more expensive (like $20) than the Bell Sport 2010 and the GForce Pro Eliminator. However, the AR10 has removable and washable liners and the same ventilation system as the higher end HJC helmets, where as the others do not. When I purchased my helmet a few months back, the guy I talked to at OG Racing said the AR10 was a no-brainer over anything for <$400.

You could save $75 and get a SA2005 helmet for $224 that would last until 2015 or spend $300 and be set until 2020.
