It's amazing to me that the Triangle is so devoid of talent he made a 40 under 40 list.

Also amazing that he can be a complete shit on the same twitter feed he uses to promote his charity.

so this dude runs, from what i gather, a totally legitimate foundation to help sick kids & their families in a terrible time. which is a great thing for the community. but his attitude and general presence related to all things UNC makes me think he's a complete and utter asshole, who is completely unworthy of my support and is probably skimming profits off the top of the foundation funds and should go away and shut the fuck up.

my disgust with him as a UNC fan prevents me from being able to separate sick kid foundation-Joey Powell from UNC fan dumbass-Joey Powell. am i being shallow and petty for judging his charity based on his blind UNC faithfulness, or is he just a total shithead? am i wrong in believing he needs to separated his twitter bitching from his foundation?

you're not wrong at all about that. it'd be way more professional, and probably financially beneficial to his foundation, if he had separate twitter accounts for the foundation and asking for support.

James Goodnight should offer to donate $5MM to his foundation, then rescind the offer based on his extremely obnoxious tweets.

Dude should definitely have a separate twitter account if he wants his work to be taken seriously. Maybe 2 separate accounts would be way too complicated for him though.

Regardless of whether or not his personal tweets are obnoxious - wouldn't it behoove the foundation, in terms of audience, much more to have a separate account for the foundation? I'd assume that most people who follow him are UNC fans who are much more interested in his UNC opinions than his foundation. Basically his audience is people who are both interested in his UNC tweets and opinions as well as interested in his foundation to help sick children (or whatever the cause is). That really limits his reach. Just seems like common sense that maximizing your target audience would be a high priority for somebody in that position. But whatever. I still enjoy hate-reading his timeline after a UNC loss or some kind of UNC scandal news breaks.

I don't post this close to a loss just to avoid the ban hammer.

There is a real contingent of fans over there that believe the defense looked "really good" tonight. That GT game will be a real eye opener for ole Gene. Haven't checked the GT score but i'm guessing 94-0?

"We're Kentucky and Kansas
10:25 AM
Does anyone know how they are in football? We're just like them to the rest of the country in football.

The only thing that may be differentiates us from them are our ongoing almost comical NCAA problems.

We are 3 star recruits. Better kids than football players mostly.

We are Larry Fedora who parlayed a good year at Southern Miss into an opportunity to come here and maybe jump to Texas just like Mack.

We are Continental Tire Bowl participants in good years.

We demolished the only part of our football stadium that gave it character and replaced it with empty seats for recruits to see on tv on Saturdays.

We are Carolina. We could be Kentucky or Kansas but our uniforms are different."

funny part, is the "we are 3 star recruits". except they seemingly bring in top 25 classes every year and still are extremely mediocre.

"I ran into a few Gamecocks on the light rail tonight after the game. They all thought we should have won it--if Quise had just gotten his act together, they all thought we could have pulled it out.

One guy in particular told me that from where he was sitting, the defense was light years improved from last year. While I thought there were a few too many arm tackles for my liking, this Gamecock told me that based on what he saw of Chizik's defenses at Auburn, our defense will likely be whipped into shape pretty soon."

"Impartial observations
7:46 AM
Instead of ranting and raving about this or that and second guessing and criticizing every decision that anyone made, I've decided to start a thread to share my observations after I've allowed time for my head to clear. But don't worry, I'll join the rants soon.... lol!

First the defense. Yes, they looked better and played well enough to win. But they still got pushed around some by a very vanilla offense with few weapons. They gave up 284 yards rushing, 108 coming in the 4th quarter alone. They clearly wore down late because they just couldn't get off the field enough. SC had the ball over 10 minutes more than us and it wasn't because of our hurry up offense. But I'm encouraged with what I saw and believe they will not be the liability they were last year.

I thought the offense was awesome. Yea I know we lost the game because of the 3 red zone INTs. Hopefully we'll get that cleaned up. But did you see the way we ran the ball... and up the middle sometimes? 208 yard rushing and 232 yards passing. That kind of balance will drive DCs nuts this year. If we can continue that trend and Marquise can stop throwing it to the other team so much, we are going to be very difficult for anyone to defend.

Everyone must have been shocked when Fedora sent Weiler out there for that 47 yarder. Like me, I'm sure you thought the fake was on. But he nailed it. Hit a 37 yarder too. That will bode well for this team as we move forward.

For the first game I thought we played very clean. 6 penalties for 30 yards is pretty good. Far better than we typically did last year.

I know everyone is upset and disappointed. I am too. The best team didn't win last night. But I saw plenty of encouraging things to give me hope for a very good season. But here's the rub. We are not ball busters. But we are pretty good. We are going to be in a lot of very close games this year and the margin for error is not great. We should have won last night by at least 2 TDs. But we made some very critical mistakes that cost us the game. If that trend continues it will be a very long season. If we can clean that up, it could be lots of fun this year.

Go Heels!"

Impartial must mean something else on IC. "Hey, if you ignore the HUGE mistakes, we'll be great this year."

Quote :
"Dude. No reason to get personal. I'm just trying to point out some things many of you can't see now because you're blinded by anger. We ran 63 plays last night. Three cost us the game. Most of the rest were pretty damn good. That's all I'm saying."

I mean, their defense looked better, and their defense will definitely be better. It was what, the worst scoring defense in all of d1 last year? Chizik is a good defensive coach. I think its likely to be an average defense. It wont be good though

their d certainly can't be any worse...but i'm not buying into chizik being a savior in one season. this is still all the same players who were god awful last year in every aspect of defense.

Watch pursuit angles and coverage on the passes when Mitch wasn't throwing ducks. Underneath routes are still wide open and tackles still suck. Couple big "hits" but still a lot of arm tackling/bad angles

Way fairer than I expect on scout boards usually. Calling it a silver linings observation is fair. But to brush off the huge mistakes as "eh it's week one" and call it impartial is a bit much.

Then again i had been collecting all the posts about officiating but thought that was unfair because all fans do it.

USC's offense is really, really bad. The fact that they still put up 17 points, think most ACC teams are still going to average 25+ against them.

If they can't slow down USC's horrible attempt at a wildcat, no idea how they're going to slow down GT or Pitt.

USC had I believe 100+ rushing yards in the 4th quarter alone.

Ah, the classic, "If you take out all of the bad plays we would have won." argument. Not to be out-shined by the "If we correct these four or five shortcomings of our team, we will be so good!" delusion.

Both of those teams are going to get killed in their conferences.

Bad run defense on both sides.

Neither team has a solid QB at the helm. Obviously the O coordinators are incompetent.

^UNC doesn't have the offensive line to play against good teams...they showed that last night. that USC team is one of the worst Spurrier has had in a longggg time. They just used good schemes to throw off UNC, not talent.

Teams in the ACC will BLOW UNC OUT. Gtech might put up 500 yards on them on the ground.

With Fedora's comments on him wishing Hood would've gotten more carries, I don't know why I'm not seeing more people going after their OC. We know that Canada calls our plays and thus complain accordingly. Everything I'm seeing is going after Fedora.
