Gregg Marshall's Wichita State on ESPN2 right now against VCU. Good game going. I would not be apposed to him as coach as long as none of the "baggage" is true.

If Sid isn't shown the door after this season then someone needs to get cracking on the "Debbie Yow Credibility Watch" thread because that would be an absolute dereliction of her duties to leave him in place for another year.

Guys, I've been searching for a few weeks now and I think I've found our basketball coach. His name is Sidney Lowe and looks like he's been here since 2006.

The solution is to hire Tubby, convince him to work for free, convince some lower UNC system school (like UNCW) to take Archie and another to take Vinny Del Negro. Make them both pay those coaches 1 million bucks, and give Del Negro the 2.5 million we would be paying Tubby.

Then, in 6-7 years when Tubby retires, whichever coach hasn't been fired between Archie and Vinny gets the NC State coaching job!

And we set a record for longest coaching search.

-Amaker, Monson, and Davis have all already burned out in the Big 10, and Gary Waters in the Big East
-Kennedy, aside from Murray State, has his experience at Miami, hardly a "built" program
-Dunphy has coached in Philly his whole life and probably wouldn't leave
-Rose, as much as I hate to say it, could have risky health
-Marshall has some sort of unknown baggage
-Everhart and Cooley haven't been to the NCAA tournament yet
-That leaves...Chris Mooney, Brad Stevens, Rob Jeter, Ben Jacobson, and Donnie Tyndal

Oh, wait, Mooney went to Princeton so he probably runs the DREADED OFFENSE, so fuck his success.

Big rumor floating that billy donovan will take the job if the money is right.

Seems credible, the SECsucks, he's left before, and florida doesn't have much going on

He makes 2.7 mil I think though

The only mention of this I've heard was on Brett Jensen's 10-12 call in show on 610 yesterday. He said he had some sources in the South that are chirping that Donavan can "be had if the money is right."

Must not have been that good a program builder. Didn't read the link btw, maybe they explained

Edit: Of course we would need to build from 10th to... 6th in the conference. Maybe those guys are on the hot seat for not building to the top of their respective conferences... like Herb (ducks).

JESUS- i just looked up Rick Barnes' coaching resume...

he hasn't missed a NCAA tournament in 15 years. i'd rather give my pinkie for him than Billy Donovan. i just dont want to be publicly smacked in the face again like the last coaching search

I would cut off my whole fucking hand if we could land Donovan. No chance in hell because we can't pony up $4 million a year or whatever it'd take, but his hiring would rock Tobacco road.

Rick Barnes currently makes about $2million a year, with an annual $50,000 increase. His last contract extension was in 2005, which was a 10 year 1.7mil contract. If i did my math correctly, his buyout would be approximately $8.5M for the next 4 years, plus the >$2M/yr it would take to land him.

in summary- i'll do it for less.

Not that I wouldn't love to have Barnes, but he's choked like crazy in the tourney for years. Donovan has two national championships. Barnes has lost with great teams and great players players like Durant, Gibson, TJ Ford, Aldridge, Augustin, etc.

IMO...Donovan > Barnes.

^^Damn...look at all that hair on Herb. If he had that hair while at State, he'd still be here.

^^he has no idea .. we'll see how serious we are about having good basketball though by how much we open up the wallet this go around

We're only paying 1.5 mill per year now, and that is pathetic.

mentioning rick barnes should be a suspendable offense.

it was made abundantly clear, by him, that he does not want to coach at nc state. i wouldn't leave texas either if i were him.

[Edited on February 25, 2011 at 9:59 AM. Reason : also, i have absolutely no recollection of florida being the runners up in 2000. none whatsoever.]
