It's carrying a robotic dog. Its supposed to help with astronaut morale and mental stability.

Sounds like it could be trouble if there's a mentally unstable pill-head on a future mission.

But for serious, I'm hoping to be significantly involved with manufacture of the fabrics for flame retardant shirts and pants for Astronauts for high-oxygen environments during manned Artemis missions. I too want to make something that goes to the moon! No repeats of Apollo 1, please.

So far NASA has been very slow to work with.

NASA is the new Tesla. Overpromise and don't deliver. Trust that people will have forgotten your previously-stated timelines.

What center are you working with? If it is JSC, that explains a lot.

I don't really understand the organizational structure. I think it's JSC by way of Jacobs Engineering JETS Contract. I've had several interactions with people from different units, I guess. They all have @nasa.gov email addresses, but it's sort of like they all work for different companies.

Its def not MSFC if it is under the JETS contract, so I can at least wipe my hands clean of your grievances.

It's less of a grievance and more of an observation (with some surprise, given the publicly communicated timelines for manned missions), but in any case I'm glad you are in the clear!

Mostly for selfish NC State bragpoint reasons, I simply want Christina Koch to be first woman on the moon and safely make it back.

^Would be awesome. We'd probably have a statue of her on campus. EBIII (current aerospace building) would prob be renamed after her.

Yeah, but they killed a bunch of people in style. I'm intentionally blurring the lines and attempting to confuse the people who don't share my entertainment preferences.

NC State's Christina Koch selected as part of Artemis II.

Guess this means she won't get a lunar landing mission?

Probably won't get Artemis III landing, but possibly future ones. It would be a huge waste of talent and experience to not give her one.

She was clearly joking about that when she put that in her profile to throw off future profile seekers. You gotta be smart like that if you're gonna be an astronaut.

I know. We had that class together as previously confirmed by School Tool, and also because there weren't too many British folks in Aerospace Engineering at NCSU. I think we might have also had FORTRAN together, or you were a lab TA, or both.

How much Fortran do you use at NASA? I liked it.

^I was a Fortran TA for 6 semesters actually, so you may have been in one of my sections. I actually used to use it all the time when I first started at NASA, in fact that was one of the reasons I was originally hired because most people weren't familiar with it (Thanks NCSU!). Lots of old legacy code from the space shuttle days was written in Fortran and they needed people that could easily navigate it to pull out chunks that were still applicable and convert them to more modern languages. Haven't really used it in a few years though, although that's because I'm in a completely different position nowadays and I don't really need a legit programming language when things like MATLAB will do.

I think they've stopped teaching fortran, at least at the introductory level

^Yep. Aero engineers learn MATLAB now. I'm surprised they were teaching us fortran when I graduated 16 years ago lol. I guess it is a good intro language at least.
