This 'Cryptoqueen' scammed investors out of $4 billion, the FBI says. Then she boarded a plane and disappeared

https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/22/business/ruja-ignatova-cryptoqueen-fbi-most-wanted-cec/index.html

Quote :
"Authorities say OneCoin was a pyramid scheme that defrauded people out of more than $4 billion as Ignatova convinced investors in the US and around the globe to throw fistfuls of cash at her company. Federal prosecutors describe OneCoin as one of the largest international fraud schemes ever perpetrated.
. . .
'In fact, OneCoins were entirely worthless … (Their) lies were designed with one goal, to get everyday people all over the world to part with their hard-earned money.'"

Warren Buffett calls bitcoin a 'gambling token' with no intrinsic value

https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/currencies/warren-buffett-bitcoin-gambling-token-crypto-market-outlook-berkshire-hathaway-2023-4?amp

Quote :
"The Berkshire Hathaway chairman and CEO ratcheted up his fiery crypto commentary, describing investing in digital assets as akin to spending time at a casino.

"It doesn't have any value, but that doesn't stop people from wanting to play a roulette wheel," the 92 year old told CNBC in an interview.

. . .

"[You could] spend the rest of your life spinning around the roulette wheel because they feature the winners and people get excited about it," Buffett said. "[But] that's why the slot machines make a lot of noise without paying out."

People have an instinct to gamble, Buffett says, which causes investors to flock to crypto. He said allocating to the asset class simply "eats up your money.""

At least Nvidia actually makes something of value.

If you are impressed with the price of BTC, you need to check out this hot new investment with ticker BRK-A!

Apparently there is a good setup with shorting MSTR and/or MARA to hedge. Could probably come up with something using the ETFs. Anyone looked into it?

Solana based decentralized exchange does "Perpetuals" and Coinbase does futures contracts. I thought for some reason the Coinbase BTC based ones were not for US customers but apparently they allow it.

Even if I had bought when it was like $30, I would have sold by like $2000 probably

I wonder what would happen if all the sudden it went back to like $50

The window to make 1000x your investment on BTC is long past. But the new administration seems to be bullish on crypto in general, so there are plenty of other coins that could yield some decent results. I'm no crypto bro, but I think a few coins that will have good gains, while also not being ultra-volatile meme coins that could easily tank, are ADA, XRP, LINK and XLM.

I'm up to about 10% USD value of my crypto portfolio shitcoin. Mainly SOL and it's all staked. I dumped all my Eth because it still cost a fortune to use after the proof of stake switch.

Just did my ceremonial top buy for Bitcoin. Cost basis is still under $20k. I sold my last two BTC miners for < $100 when it was still at $60k. Each miner was making 0.005 every 3 months for a cost of about $180 in power each. I cashed out just under what I paid for them in BTC. Had to repair them frequently and parts are impossible to get in times of demand. My Ranger is now worth $300K. HODL.

I vote for BubbleBobble to do it as a means to escape his horrible job. Can also use marko's wolf as the logo without permission or attribution, because that's how we roll in the lawless world of crypto.

Quote :
"On the other hand, if people chose to store their wealth in an easy money, with a low stock-to-flow ratio, it would be trivial for the producers of this good to create very large quantities of it that depress the price, devaluing the good, expropriating the wealth of the savers, and destroying the good's salability across time.

Call it the easy money trap: anything used as a store of value will have its supply increased, and anything whose supply can be easily increased will destroy the wealth of those who used it as a store of value."

Bitcoin referenced the bank bailouts in the first block of Bitcoin produced. It's hard money, arguably harder than gold since you can produce more gold (or find a shitload on an asteroid). After the money printing of the last 16 years, particularly during Covid, it's financial suicide not to store some wealth in Bitcoin.

Think of an NFT like drawing a picture of a dick on a dollar and giving it to someone.

Now show it on a logarithmic scale.

Sorry if I don't believe that digital Ponzi schemes are going to save me any more than lumps of metal are during times of social and economic crisis.

Also, McDonald's hamberders cost 15 cents in 1948. We're on track for ~100x in 100 years. So, yes, early next century, we probably can look forward to $1,000 berders (or 0.01 BTC if you can still access your crypto wallet).
