Bobster, the ACMEinsraller goes into the novacom folder. And when in the command prompt you need to cd into the novacom folder.

So should I wait for a beta release of CM7 or go for the Alpha? I'm getting kinda jealous the more I hear about it.

other than gyroscope, there isnt a whole lot that isnt functional for the average android user. i pulled the trigger tonight. sounds like a lot of people did lol. wife's been playing angry birds every since i said "i put angry birds on this" so maybe it was a mistake.

^^I haven't had any issues so far aside from the occasional app lagging and bringing up the "Wait / Force Close" menu

As long as you include the Moboot and Clockworkmod .ZIP files as well as the actual ...fullofbugs.zip file when you install, its pretty simple to do. Only tricky thing is the command line / terminal thing but thats been clarified a bit over the last dozen posts. And if you decide you don't want to mess with it, its easy enough to just reboot back into webOS

its an alpha version, but its pretty damn stable

I reinstalled flext9 from Amazon app store

I never found a good webOS start tracker though, using ESPN and Yahoo trackers in CM7

Nah, not placebo.

They added a lot of optimization updates to webOS. The biggest being that they finally upgraded from the much slower and older build of Node.js to the current one.

the webOS browser is still really flakey though. It doesn't do facebook correctly, the copy/paste menu passes events through to things behind it, text boxes go haywire sometimes where the autocorrect tries to kick in every few letters, google news doesn't render correctly in portrait mode, and there are lots of other weird rendering problems. Kind of odd considering its supposed to be WebKit based.

there's a lot of little polish issues they need to work on. It reminds me of iOS version 1.

i bought a 3-pack of screen protectors on ebay...took the first 2 off because there were too many air bubbles...eventually put the 3rd one on even though it still has a few air bubbles...tricky as hell to get it all the way on without some bubbles

overall though i dont think you really need a screen protector

screen protectors have always felt like they cause too much friction, harder to slide my finger on

i'd reccomend armor suit screen protectors. tricky to put on, but with the solution you can reapply as many times as possible. crystal clear when they are on, it uses a self healing technology, so if the screen protector gets scratched, it'll reheal itself. and they have a life time warranty which i've tested cause my tablet broke and when i took it off i got hair stuck to it so they sent another.

I'll also add I've only scratched one screen ever (blackberry) without using a protector

I was looking at that armorsuit one but a lot of the reviews say it reduces sensitivity. I've got a few days to decide before it gets here, but most people say it doesn't need a protector. I definitely want the HP case though, sadly just missed out on it being $17 the other day

Meh. I don't do screen protectors on Gorilla Glass. They are VERY scratch resistant. So unless you're going to sandblast it, it's pointless.

Scratch resistant != scratch proof. Gorilla Glass is just a nice little buzzword that makes people feel all nice and fuzzy inside. That said, I just have the folio case with no screen protector since I don't carry it in my pocket or have to worry about keys or dirt scratching it. It'd be nice to have something a little more resistant to finger prints but most of what's out there is crap.

I'd rather deal with a few nearly-invisible scratches than deal with a screen protector.

^Same. That's the way I've felt about every touch screen device I've ever owned (phones included). Having some stupid piece of plastic in the way is 1000 times worse than a little bit of minor scratches that you can only see in sunlight.

my tablet is still really sensitive with the armorsuit, i haven't noticed any less sensitivity, it also like absorbs fingerprints or something, cause i never see any on it.

^^^^ I never said it was scratch proof. Screen protectors are also not scratch proof either, and you're crazy if you think they offer an extra layer of protection. Anything that would scratch the glass isn't going to be protected by a thin cheap sheet of plastic.

Now, if we were talking about plastic screens (such as the ones found on Blackberrys), they would be necessary.

And if your phone has a case with a front cover, it's not necessary (my iPhone has no screen protector, but I keep it in a case that covers the front. I remove the cover when I use it).

i havent really noticed any difference in touch sensitivity since installing my screen

without a screen looked better though since there were no air bubbles

but the air bubbles are minimal and your eyes just kind of ignore them after a few seconds

My disdain of the screen protectors has nothing to do with any lack of sensitivity and everything to do with the bubbles. I don't know how anyone puts up with them. I'd rather give a hungry german shepard 15 minutes with my iPad than put on a bubbly ass pos looking sheet of grimy plastic.

air bubbles are kind of like finger prints

you can't even really see them when the screen is on

I put a screen protector on a first gen ipod touch that we got before we got iphones or any other touch screen devices.

yeah the air bubbles bother me, and i agree that once the screen is on, you can't really see them. Apart from that, the biggest thing that bothers me is that the actual texture of the plastic cover bugs me. It has a little more friction than the glass, and it just bothers me to touch it.

It has become a hand-me-down to my 3 year old, in which case the screen protector makes a hell of a lot more sense.

but anyway, like anything else, go with what works for you....

Tiger Direct has touchpads in stock again but there's a catch. You can either buy a 32GB outright for $299 or they'll give you a $150 mail-in rebate if you buy an HP computer.

They released an Alpha3 (CM7)

http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10121-releasealpha3cyanogenmod-touchpad/

if you need hold-your-hand detailed instructions, find them spelled out on page 9 of that thread, but page 1 has the .zip file you need to DL to the SD card before going into clockworkmod

Lets say I wanted to buy one of these things now, where is the best place to get one that I won't get incredibly gouged? And how much would I expect to pay for the 16gb version?

All I really want it for is browsing and reading comic books.

you can't, you'll probably pay $250 at which point you're better off buying a new or refurb Tegra2 Android tablet... but i guess those are still $75-$100 more...

but if you really want one:
http://www.ebay.com/ctg/HP-TouchPad-16GB-Wi-Fi-9-7in-Glossy-Black-/108784397?LH_ItemCondition=1000&_dmpt=US_Tablets&_pcategid=171485&_pcatid=839&_refkw=hp+touchpad+16gb

is about the only fair price.
