some young guys are stepping up and outperforming the veterans

True freshman Cole Blankenship finished up high school classes 4 months ago, enrolled in college in January and cracks the 2-deep

Rarely used soph. OL Alex Barr beat out regular junior Cameron Fordham for the starting right guard spot. Dude is a bear at 6'7" / 326 lbs.

Redshirt Freshman LB M.J. Salahuddin beating out 3 seniors for the starting MLB

Redshirt Freshman DT K'Hadree Hooker cracked the 2-deep over Gray and Buntyn

Other notes:
sucks for redshirt senior LB Ryan Cheek. Poor guy has stuck with it for 4 years, served on special teams and as a back-up at LB the past 2 seasons to Lucas and Cole, and doesn't even crack the spring 2-deep. And gets beat out by a freshman and a walk-on

Why wouldn't DJ Green be a redshirt junior?

I guess he played as a true freshman and his suspension last year couldn't be counted as a redshirt year?

because I guess the penalty for his banned-substance issue was that he had to forfeit an eligibility year instead of redshirting it

^ & ^^ are correct

For the record, Doeren was on 99.9 yesterday afternoon and basically said that the "life with out Jacoby" quote was inaccurate or out of context and that the story was misleading and misrepresented what he actually said.

Two things that stand out about that video

-Holy shit Coach D is a breath of fresh air from TOB. The guys have to love playing him.

-Love to see Jacoby Brissett's enthusiasm during the drills (#12). I'm hoping for the best with Stocker and Thomas, but Brissett already looks like a leader.

Team elects Leadership Council:

Jarvis Byrd - DB
Dontae Johnson - DB
Darryl Cato-Bishop - DL
Art Norman - DL
DJ Green - LB
Zach Gentry - LB
Ryan Cheek - LB
Tony Creecy - RB
Milton Hall - RB
Anthony Talbert - TE
Asa Watson - TE
Quintin Payton - WR
Rashard Smith - WR
Jacoby Brissett - QB
Pete Thomas - QB
Duran Christophe - OL
Rob Crisp - OL
Joe Thuney - OL
Niklas Sade - Specialist
Scott Thompson - Specialist

Also, I saw a mistake I made yesterday:

Quote :
"Redshirt Freshman LB M.J. Salahuddin "

M.J. is a true sophomore. He appeared in nearly every game last season on special teams.

^^ well there are 100+ guys on the team. So having 2-3 guys per position group really isn't that large of a number.

can someone at least post what he says about Thomas? i really don't care about the rest of the article

He didn't write anything about Thomas, just listed him with a few others that he "liked".

The article has his top 5: Bridgewater, Boyd, Manziel, Mariota, and McCarron with a write up. Then a second tier "Next Up": David Fales, Braxton Miller, Logan Thomas, Bo Wallace, and Derek Carr with a few sentences. Then a list of "More I like": Aaron Murray, Bryn Renner, Stephen Morris, Keith Price, Pete Thomas, and Taylor Kelly.

^That's me. I don't expect anything but at the same time I'm much more interested in watching the upcoming season, especially when compared to this time last summer. At least we'll look different in the ways we fail this year.
