I thought about ordering one, but if it has less features than that POS Google TV box I have, not interested. I want to see if everyone likes it that ordered first.

It's not bad considering I paid 35 and get 3 months of Netflix. Without the promotion I would have to weigh the cost to just more or less free up my PS3 as living room netflix machine.

I've cast some youtube stuff that works great, but dragging an mkv into chrome tab produced no audio and as expected was somewhat laggy.

If they can get more support it looks like an interesting buy, but right now I dunno I'd spend 15 or 20 more for a Roku or 65 more on an AppleTV.

Debating if I should get a Roku 3 or one of these. I just dropped cable and am ready to pick up a streaming device. I should probably read up on it a bit more, because I don't know if Chromecast can stream Amazon Video or Hulu based on that video.

It's only integrated with Netflix, Youtube, Google Music, and Google Movies right now. You can cast a tab in chrome, but I haven't tested it yet.

Hoping the new Sunday Ticket package for non-directTV customers (from Madden 25) can work with this....

I want it to be able to just cast the video from my monitor to the TV so I can play PC games without moving my PC and stringing a long-ass HDMI cable to it.

I watched the presentation, had the order screen loaded later, but forgot until the next day. Ended up ordering the morning of the 25th (yay, I'll get the Netflix coupon!) from Amazon but they're OOS still ... guess I'll get one eventually.

Be sure if you use GMail to check your promotional tab. I received the 5 day email and the code within minutes of each other, but on the promo tab.

Ordered 7/24

Have you tried:
http://www.google.com/chromecast

Looks like there's a 3-4 week wait through the google store, but you can technically order it where as you cannot through Best Buy and Amazon.

From what I've read, a lot of the big streaming services (vimeo, hbo go, and many others) are scrambling to get things working on Chromecast. So while there's not support right now, I think it's right around the corner.

I recently dropped cable as well. I use a 360 for Netflix, Amazon Instant, etc. But I set up a Plex server (entirely free) on my home computer and use that with my 360 to play HD video files to my big tv. Roku has a Plex app. that works quite well. I actually have a buddy who uses his Roku 3 to play the files off of my computer remotely -- someone not on my network using my files requires me to have good upload speeds. But that's not necessary at all if you're only using it on your won network).

I love the concept and footprint of the Chromecast. And I'm excited about the idea and how easy it could make streaming to an actual for some people. But if you're really looking at it for streaming services, I'd go with a Ruko 3 because 1) it already has all of the services you'll likely consider, and 2) It's 3rd gen vs. a 1st gen. device. Not only has Ruko worked out the kinks, but the developers have been working out kinks in each of their apps.

Managed to get one today. So far pretty cool. Got the chrome extension to push from browser to it and been messing around watching things on twitch. Works very easy and had sound and all on the tv.

For $35 pretty easy decision to buy with how easy it is to use and set up.

Yeah there's a confirmation code when you set one up and if you click the cast button I'd imagine instead of My Computer and Chromecast1 you'd have each of your devices listed.

if i cast something from my browser and then start using other tabs or applications, the tv still just shows the one tab you started casting from, right?

My understanding is that you can continue to use your computer (meaning that the streaming window does not need to be the active window). But I haven't seen anything explicitly saying that what you're describing will work from an actual person (as opposed to someone who tested it for 15 minutes for an article). Perhaps, at worst, you'd have to launch a different browser. But I'm fairly certain you switch to a different tab within Chrome.

This guy seemed to do a pretty thorough test using several mobile devices, an older TV and a new tv, and both a windows laptop and a macbook:

^^ correct. Will post more tomorrow as I have more time to mess with it. Nothing groundbreaking, but easy to use and cheap, and I think has a lot of potential as more companies get on board and people figure out all it is capable of doing.

Quote :
"Casting any media may soon be a reality in CyanogenMod

We've seen that Koush, the application developer and Android hacker everyone knows and loves, is working on all sorts of cool stuff for the Chromecast he picked up. We're glad, because who better to crack it wide open and see what it can do than Koush, amirite?

Early this morning on Google+, he showed off his latest project, which will allow any audio or video file to be streamed casted to your TV using a CyanogenMod-powered device and the Chromecast dongle. In his demo above he shows it off using the Twit.TV app, but he explains that the process should be the same for any media you can play through any app.

Right now, details are a little sparse, but we do know that he's coded the functionality right into the OS using framework extensions. CyanogenMod is open-source, so we'll be able to see exactly how it's done once completed and any pesky Developer Preview SDK agreements are finished.

We have to wonder — if it's this simple (no disrespect intended to Koush's hard and clever work), will Google be adding similar functionality right into Android in the future? Or will the copyright holders keep that from happening?"

I've had my chromecast for about a week. I really like it. It streams really well, bascially no buffer time.

The one draw back is while using the computer to stream. If you use the computer, you have to keep it open. When I closed the lid and put my computer to sleep, it cuts off. My remedy for that has been using my Nexus 7 (you can put it to sleep and it will keep playing fine).

For some reason the netflix on my bionic doesnt have the cast button.

Overall very happy.

I'm enjoying mine. I had some people over and it was pretty fun with everyone being able to queue up music videos from their phone. Not to be impatient, but I'd really like to see more app support like Spotify, Songza, HBO Go, Showtime Anywhere, etc. Wonder if Google mailed out dev kits early or if it will be a while before more companies add support...

fwiw my Sony smart blu-ray player does the same thing; you have to keep the computer awake. I'm actually surprised the Nexus can still stream when asleep.

^^ I read an article the other day where someone had found some HBO GO related files on their chromecast. Suggesting that they had already been working on it before release.

I do think it may have been a somewhat premature release. But maybe they wanted to get buzz going to get these third party developers rolling faster than they were with it on the shelf.

i haven't used mine in a few days, but i don't recall there being auto-advance on the netflix player. that's a dealbreaker cus most of the time when i watch tv it's when i'm going to sleep and i HATE having to get out of bed every 23 minutes to advance to the next episode. much like smart tv software, apple tv or google tv, i'm also guessing the software updates for each app will come at about a 10x slower pace than the normal web apps. i'm pretty sure i'll end up reverting back to just plugging in a regular htpc and using vnc or a mini wifi keyboard/touchpad i have

Not auto advancing was my roommate's biggest gripe with this as well. It really is a deal breaker for using it in that manner.
