I'm sure there's a star wars thread, but I'm watching star wars for the first time in my life. So far I've made it through Ep 4, 5, 6, and 1. I don't think 2019 is a good time to watch them for the first time. They're pretty bad.

if you can find it online, topher grace edited the star wars prequals together and it's pretty good and much easier than trying to watch all 3 individually. he had a new one now that edits all of them together but i haven't watched that cut yet.

i'll check if i have a copy when i get home

I saw the original trilogy in the theater when they first came out. I loved them then and rewatched all of them in 1999 as an adult for the first time in anticipation of the prequel trilogy. I actually think I loved them even more as an adult when I recognized how much of an homage to 50s B sci-fi they were. I haven't seen the originals in 20 years now, though. Never really cared for the prequel trilogy (still haven't even watched Revenge of the Sith even once).

Lol how can you not like something you've never seen. Especially when it's better than return of the Jedi.

Easy. I watched two out of the trilogy and didn't care for them.

haven't seen it but from the trailers it sounds like Tom Hanks just talks like Forrest Gump for 2 hours

Hustlers was very entertaining

Don't Let Go had an interesting plot but was a little jumbled and tbh it felt like some of the actors (I'm looking at you Alfred molina) were phoning it in. Also wasted Brian Tyree Henry

Toy Story 4 was fine, I think I was too tired when I watched it

I really liked The Art of Self Defense. Felt like something Lanthimos would make.

Good Boys is terrible, not sure who it's supposed to be for. Basically a Disney Channel shout the lines at each other show with cuss words.

So I saw Star Wars RoS today, but that's not what I want to talk about. The website for the movie theater we went to said that the movie started at 3:30. We get there at 3:15 - no need to worry about getting good seats since you reserve them now online. When 3:30 hits, the lights go down promptly, and I'm staring at a Coke commercial. Fine. It's a movie theater - Coke is like water to these places. Then a commercial for Geico. Then a commercial for M&M's. Then one for...I lost track. Ended up being approx. 10 minutes worth of commercials. After I've already paid $10 for a matinee showing. Then the previews start. This used to be one of my favorite parts of the movie. But after about the 6th preview, I'm done, ok?

All said and done, the actual movie didn't start until 4:15. That's a bit much. Especially when you have folks there who are paying for babysitters.

I guess this shows that I don't go see many movies in the theaters, but I don't recall it being nearly this bad for Avengers Endgame.

Bombshell was right about where I think most would expect it. Not spectacular or that insightful, just an entertaining look at what was going down at that period of time

^^I saw RoS at 1:45pm I believe, got out of the theater at about 4:30pm or a little later. That's 20+ minutes of trailers/commercials before the movie even started. Lame.

maybe 25 minutes? either way yeah, way too many trailers. start the trailers earlier and if people living under a rock who haven't already seen half of the trailers on youtube want to get there early to watch them, more power to them. but there shouldn't be more than 5-10 minutes of trailers+commercials before the main event starts, imo.

I think the big AMC theaters are really bad about too many previews and commercials, around here anyway. The smaller theaters are better.

we don't go a lot, but we still go on a somewhat regular basis maybe 1 a month and 45 minutes is longer than i've experienced

send an email to the theater, that's too long

i'd actually question that, but it doesn't change by advice about how to watch the film

got curious:
1.2B tickets sold in 2019 per https://www.the-numbers.com/market/2019/summary
2.2B pirated viewings inside US per https://www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2019/06/26/pirated-video-gets-viewed-over-200-billion-times-a-year-infographic/#24045bc12bcf

That's all pirated movies, not new releases. I'm still betting the amount of people stealing movies that are still in theaters is just a fraction of that. Mainly because the quality of those is going to be as a rule worse than the quality of a movie that has been commercially released for home use/streaming.

My advice is to go to the movie theater and not be a fucking thief. We're all old here, not poor college kids. Go pay for a fucking movie.

No, your post will be relevant then. It is not now. Because movies look the same during the day as at night inside a dark theater.

But this will still be wrong when 1917 is on Blu-ray:

It's a weird thing to say when the movie is still in theaters. It's fine, just weird.

You haven't. You showed that the there are an estimated 2.2 billion pirated viewings of EVERY MOVIE EVER MADE in the US compared with 1.2 billion movie tickets sold. Apples to oranges, my man. You're the one spouting off about how more people illegally stream/download movies that are in theaters than go see them without any evidence.

Apparently you are a moron. Show the figures for the number of viewings of pirated movies while that movie is still in theaters. Because that's what you're trying to argue, but you haven't provided a shred of evidence
