Didn't we already give Coples a look last year? Or was it another former UNC DE?

I think we gave him a look last year and he didn't pan out. But Rams are a team with great DL depth so it would make sense to peruse their scraps.

I really like the trade. We got a chance to win the super bowl, 4th rd pick means jack comparatively. And you cant forget how bad denver punter killed us in the super bowl.

Andy lee is an excellent punter and our situation was dire. I just wish we'd signed a cb to replace norman if we were gonna drop him. I still don't understand what we did there. Why not bring him back for the franchise tag or let him go and sign someone else... these rookies dont Look good and I still don't like our defense

Gonna predict the following. Offense 4th, defense 3rd. Overall 2nd. 12-4. Win division, lose superbowl to Pats.

I feel lIke it will be tough to get out of nfc but after the smack down we put on ari and sea I have trouble picking us to lose to them. GB has a chance. Nice Bridgewater injury that pretty much seals us making the playoffs

I've done a complete 180 on the decision to release Norman. By the end of the season, it'll be heralded as the best offseason move by any GM in the league. Nnamdi 2.0.

I was fine with us releasing Norman.

Then I saw the videos of him getting torched by Pierre Garcon in practice. At that point I KNEW we made the right decision.

That being said, Redskins paid a TON for a #2 CB on their team. I think Breeland will end up being their best CB.

Obviously I didn't mean to say i don't like our DEFENSE in the post above... was supposed to say our "defensive ends"

Nah, I definitely didn't wanna sign norman to a long term deal but $13m for 1 year is worth it when he might be enough to put us over the top in the super bowl.

The facts are he's statistically very average in man coverage because of his lack of speed. But he's a beast in zone because of his size and physicality.

The typical fan really underrates how important it is to have a corner like norman who can handle his side of the field and allows us to shade over to the other side.

The strength of our defense was that you absolutely can't run on us on first down due to Starbucks (that was anautocorrect but from now on I'm calling him Starbucks) and Kuechly being beasts against the run and Norman, davis, short, etc all being very solid.

We forced teams into obvious passing downs which allows Short to rush relentlessly and he was virtually unblock able 1 on 1 last year. Our DEs struggled but due to favorable situatuons were adequate. Our LBs Kuechly and Davis are like having 2 extra safeties on the field on passing downs and really narrow passing windows. Norman could play tight coverage and after the first few games teams just stopped throwing at him altogether. When we had bene healthy he was shutting down the slot too.

This allowed us to double a lot and force a ton of bad throws that led to turnovers.... and opportunistic defense combined with an ungodly ball control offense that converts short yardage situatuons is what got us to 15-1.

All the sudden we can get exposed on the outsides. Our field position is really gonna suffer and cam won't be likely to produce superhero statistics if our defense slides.

I just don't think you allow significant downgrades when you have a title opportunity. That secondary will get carved up by Brady if we have to face him. Arizona has a ton of speed too which could be problematic.

I like us against Seattle because their offensive line is just plain garbage. But obviously they are good enough to beat anyone with a top defense and lord jesus himself at qb.

Rodgers is good enough to beat anyone but I think people are really over rating the Packers. They have an easy schedule and weak division though so they could easily snatch the #1 seed from us without having a superior team. Lambeau is a tough place to play but I actually think our team is built better for cold weather. Anything that makes it tough to throw the ball favors our defense obviously as no one can run on us and our secondary is weak.

On top of that we can run our offense in any weather.
Cousins would probably make too many mistakes @Carolina in January. Not too concerned with them or tampa

I think this is the key right here, playing CB in our defense is likely easier than on any other team in the league. A loudmouth with poor speed just wasn't worth max money.

Bit of a surprise, but when you think about it, Shaq Thompson has basically been our nickelback throughout the entire preseason. Also probably means Jeremy Cash will make the roster to play a similar role. Can't keep everyone.

Haha yeah, we did keep Cash. I promise I didn't read that before posting the above! (even though the news was hours old)

Bene will prob be the nickelback. I expect the two rookies to start on the outside. Benwikere could play there as well, but he's really good at covering slot receivers.

I would bet Cash will be primarily a special teams player this season, while playing in a few defensive packages. Then they'll bulk him up and make him an every down LB.

I just think we're going to move away from 5 DBs in our base defense. We want Shaq on the field as much as possible and his primary role will be covering the slot.

Holy hell some guy said on page 6 he thought we'd carry 6 wide receivers this year. I thought he was just an idiot, no team ever does that..

Bersin apparently knows the playbook inside and out. He's not even that bad as a receiver. Just please don't put him back there to return punts.

Not a big fan but yeah I was gonna say his familiarity with the playback helped. Plus ginn/brown are speed and funchess and Benjamin are size. We kinda need a possession guy. I like what I've seen/heaed about Byrd so I'm glad we kept him

Doesn't Cash run a 6.3, 40 yard dash? He can't play corner. Can barely play safety with that kind of speed, he projects as a LB/s hybrid really.

Byrd will handle a lot of returns this season. Thankfully that means Bersin and Brown won't. Wouldn't surprise me to see him take some snaps away from Ginn/Brown, either.

And Bersin isn't a surprise at all. In fact, the only real surprise was Sanchez not sticking.

I didn't realize Cash was already up to 220lb. He's got a nice future at LB if he gets a little bigger. He's not nearly the athlete that Davis/Thompson are (hence why they were first rounders and he was undrafted), but he's a good football player.

"Andrew:

The Panthers suck in part because of the teenagers I teach (in North Carolina, mind you) who ask if I’m a bandwagoner because I cheer for the Panthers. I sat through the 1-15 2001 season—my mother bought me a Panthers sweatshirt for Christmas that year and apologized to me when I opened it—but I have to be a bandwagoner because 90% of the fanbase will evaporate the next time the team goes 8-8.

The Panthers suck because half the fanbase was not sold on Cam Newton until he led the team to the Super Bowl, while the other half still isn’t sold on Cam Newton because he didn’t win the damn thing.

The Panthers suck because they have existed for 21 seasons, have won 3 straight division titles, but still have not ever put together 2 consecutive winning seasons.

Lastly, the Panthers suck because they tie the Carolinas together, like South Carolina is something to be proud of. The last time South Carolina was important to the course of this country, people were allowed to own other people and the South Carolinians threw a bitch fit when it was suggested that maybe that wasn’t OK anymore.

Make fun of South Carolina sometime, they’ll ask if you’ve been to Charleston. Charleston is a haughty, overpriced town so far up its own rectum that it should be renamed East San Francisco. The only reason to go to South Carolina is to purchase fireworks that go more than 3 feet off the ground, which are illegal here because the North Carolina state legislature is too busy protecting us from the gays to allow any sort of fun within the borders of our fair state.

In conclusion, fuck the Panthers."
