I'm at UNC, but I have a Chik-Fil-A and 2 coffee shops within 50 yards of my office. Plus they just started a rotating option where Quiznos used to be that has Med Deli, Raga, Captain Ponchos and IP3 sharing the space on different days. Hella convenient.

Oh damn I miss IP3 Wednesdays. The 2 slice and a drink combo for $5.50 was on point. The bschool had Banditos instead of Captain Ponchos, but I never really ate anything besides IP3.

I don't want to be too specific, but on top of college wide cuts CALS has gotten very very strict with grant money that makes some activities near impossible even with an upbeat attitude.

It's a lot of "no you can't do ____ with your research money" even if the funder explicitly states they do not have any issue for funds being used for said equipment/activity. We spend too much time crossing i's and dotting t's, just to do basic research. Also there can NEVER be grant leftovers which just makes more work for everyone. I know it's to protect from liability etc, but it has gone too far.

CALS is about to get a new budget director and grants director so there may be some changes there. I hope it works out before your funding runs out

^^I really hope so, it has already driven out multiple well-known and respected professors that I know (at least 5 tenured profs in our department in the last 2 yrs that I know of).... and who knows how many more

they all go out with similar statements of the 'bureaucracy is taking too much time and I got a job offer somewhere else that will let me be flexible in my research'

our department was ranked 5th in the nation
