This is a non issue in every way. He's not going to start this year and no one wanted him during the off-season and this was all before he started voicing his dumb opinions.

Stand up, sit down, what ever, you're still playing at a borderline NFL backup level.

Well if he thinks he's about to get cut he can do this dumbass protest and then act like that was the reason why.

Kinda ironic the guy's black father walked out on his family then he gets adopted by white parents, and he's trying to act like black people are "oppressed" by racism in 2016 as he gets paid millions to throw an inflatable ball.

If he wants to protest police brutality, then why not find a specific, unjustified police use of force and protest that? (Think LeBron wearing "I can't breath"). That at least makes sense.

When you make no distinction between justified and unjustified police shootings, and selectively apply the race filter to falsely scream "racism"... You're not helping the situation. Socks saying "cops are pigs" will surely help too. Like I said before though, he's just doing it for attention, and more importantly, dat ass.

Maybe he was upset about his own city police?

Quote :
"
Newly disclosed text messages in which a trio of San Francisco Police Department officers referred to minorities as "barbarians," "cockroaches" and other slurs should trigger an even larger review of past criminal cases for signs of racial bias, according to the city's public defender.

At a Tuesday news conference, San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi revealed details of text messages traded among three former San Francisco officers that used the N-word to refer to black people, "rag heads" to refer to people of Middle Eastern descent and "beaners" to refer to Latinos. "

Interesting. So 3 cops sent a racist texts and are being investigated/punished. So according to civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick, do the current measures being taken not suffice? Is he suggesting some meaningful, feasible change to an existing policy or law that Americans can unite behind to improve policing?

Oh wait, no he's just saying "Racism is bad fuck the police" to get dat ass. Sort of like #BLM, where you act like you are doing something but you're just pretending you're a victim for attention.

Ah yes, the ever elusive scapegoat of "societal racism". Because what else will "activists" protest when there isn't actual evidence of racism?

That's the thing, name an actual racist event/policy/practice and nobody disagrees, it's bad and it's corrected. When races have equal opportunity but make different choices and get different outcomes, that isn't racism. If we are going to ignore black violent crime but protest blacks getting shot by cops, we will be "fighting for social justice" until 3016. That, or SJWs will learn how statistics work. But don't hold your breath for that one.

Well people only value his stance as much as they do in the first place because of his talent to make an NFL roster. So I think it's entirely fair to say his opinion doesn't matter as much to the national stage as it would if he were a starter.

His message is more powerful coming from his position than it would be from Bob the gas station attendant, but less powerful than it would be from Cam Newton, reigning MVP.

in general, i'd agree with you. but instead of the discussion being about any issue, it's turned into a giant pissing contest about "not respecting the flag" or some shit like that. in theory, this is a fine way to make a statement. but unfortunately most people have taken to "fuck this traitor" and "he has white adoptive family" and "but he makes millions" arguments and it, imo, hasn't sparked a discussion about legitimate issues. it's only people hiding behind their "patriotism" and getting indignant about not standing up for the dumbass fucking national anthem.

I think it's a bit much to think that this would be a bigger deal if Cam protested the same way

yes, and those people are wrong

and in some instances, are being called out on how wrong they are, possibly making them re-think some things

without the protest, those people have no reason to think about these things in any critical way

so of course the protest has worked

doesn't the fact these racist policies have to be corrected in the first place represent some truth to the idea that minorities have not been given equal opportunity? like, you can't correct the policy today and then everything is suddenly equal tomorrow. to use the thing you were talking about earlier with cops exchanging racist texts. they are no longer cops (if i read that story correctly). but you can't undo any discrimination/profiling/etc that they may have been responsible for while they were cops. so sure, that racist thing was "corrected" but it doesn't fix the damage it may have caused. in other words, there was never "equal opportunity" among minorities who interacted with those officers.

I was just pointing out that Chip Kelly has been accused of racism in the past, not that there was any merit to it whatsoever. I think Jackson and McCoy didn't understand just how bad of a GM Kelly was at the time.

There aren't any "racist policies" in 2016 though. The only argument is that there is a disparate racial impact. That technically is not racist by itself. Is it a racist, sexist law that "murder is illegal" in Chicago, because it disproportionately puts young black men in jail?

Quote :
"in other words, there was never "equal opportunity" among minorities who interacted with those officers"

I see your point. Fortunately this is an isolated case, and the laws in place are designed to correct it. I don't think evidence of a cop using racial slurs is something that indicates the correctional policies/systems are flawed, just as I don't think a murder means our murder laws are flawed. It's an unfortunate and inevitable result of human nature, if you constantly deal with the worst of the worst criminals and they have X in common, chances are slurs/insults will be associated with that factor X. It doesn't justify it, but it doesn't represent America or police. The societal question is how many of these rare cases mean we need policy changes?

That goes back to my earlier point, if you want police transparency and accountability: the overwhelming majority of Americans agree with you. However, when you start peddling a divisive, victimhood narrative that treats Mike Brown as a civil rights martyr and says 2016 America is an oppressive, racist hellhole, you are no longer in the realm of reasonable discourse, you are a SJW looking for attention/validation from your SJW peers.

not sure how you came to that conclusion. I have no issues whatsoever with what he's doing right now, and he was a really good read option quarterback. Unfortunately, the NFL adapts really fast to new schemes, and Kaepernick never adapted to reading passing lanes instead of one-read plays. There's also no excuse for an NFL quarterback to throw off his back foot as much as he does.
