Cool semantics, but what percentage of this season's episodes haven't started with a Trump-related cold open?

And it's awful sweet of you to paint over everyone being bored with Alec's Trump by calling it "stunt casting"

it’s exactly what it is, and they’ve quadrupled down on it

I don't give a shit about the stunt casting if they write some jokes to go along with it.

Like the HPV/HIV thing was a laugh line, but it's just essentially repeating a headline verbatim. It's like the Chris Farley show or 'member berries, "remember this thing you read about Trump this week??"

^^^

Pros:
Sounded just like Kanye
Had some uninterested girl spinning on a horse

Cons:
Squandered John Mayor with a lack of white boy noodling

Lorne Michaels must really like him.

I thought the Jonah Hill episode was one of the better episodes in a while.

He was funny as Uncle Butt, or whatever that character was in the rap parody. Also, that House Hunters had me dying laughing.

Loved the hose boys. It felt like vintage 90s SNL.

Also btw probably almost always has been, but weekend update is currently about as toothless as it can get. That amazon bit was, at best, incredibly ignorant

They were jokes. Not a NYT article.

He said ny won the lottery which is propoganda for Amazon not a joke. Political humor should speak truth to power, to some extent, not prop it up. Otherwise it has no bite, ie toothless....

There's a million other jokes they could have made that would have seen not so....out of touch? I mean to the point of the joke, care to take bets about the last time Jost took the subway?

Not to mention of course fucking up so bad that they have to give a far right politician a huge national platform in the name of civility

I'm pretty relaxed thanks. I still watch. I said weekend updates political humor was toothless, I guess the only argument is that it's supposed to be?

I guess you and synapse can JO each other when they give Trump a bunch of cameos in 2020

I'm pretty sure I've said ITT that I despise Baldwin's Trump spots, so I'm not sure what you're getting at there.

[Edited on November 19, 2018 at 11:14 PM. Reason : But yeah I'll agree that it's mostly toothless. Remind me of the toothful glory days tho plz...]

So again just agreeing with me

I don't know what Baldwin has to do with what I said.

I think two things: 1) if they're gonna do political humor, they should try harder, 2) stop giving horrible far right politicians (Trump, Crenshaw) huge platforms/free advertising

I don't think SNL is interested in being an activist show. Jokes and viewership/ad dollars is the name of their game.

I guess you're hung up on Trump hosting back in 2015, and that's valid, but that was a different world than we live in now. Crenshaw is a valid criticism too, but I don't think SNL has ever been what you want them to be.

I guess. I feel like I remember a little more bravery with myers/poehler/fey but maybe you're right.

I suppose even for the centrist Dem leaning jokes they typically too, the Amazon one was a little too obviously bowing to corporate overlords. For me anyway.

[Edited on November 19, 2018 at 11:38 PM. Reason : I'm not looking for activism really, just something beyond bland]

I too would prefer them to employ more teeth, fwiw. Don't know if they need to go full Michelle Wolf but I mostly agree with you.

Looking forward to TGL3's take on this discussion.

Cool well...i guess you dont have to JO with TT anymore. I mean you're welcome to, just not mandatory.

Meanwhile I'll try his suggestion and see if that makes the show more enjoyable

^ that was great. I want to watch again for the dialogue alone.

I was hoping for a Miley nip-slip, but the show airs a little delayed, so it probably would have been edited anyway.
And, yes, I know you can easily GIS Miley boobs.
