Do you drink it? If so, how do you take it?

I've come to enjoy it more in my older age (37). In the past, I couldn't stomach it, but I've found that Bullet, or Knob Creek, with just a little bit of ginger ale or coke is pretty good.

Still can't do that mess straight though.

I really can't drink it straight. I'll try it with some water next time. But I've tried drinking straight whiskey since 1998, because I like the flavor. But it doesn't like my stomach.
My apologies, I just realize I misspelled bulleit in the OP.

I'll add a small bit of water to whiskey or an ice cube. Mellows out the harshness just a touch and opens up the bouquet a bit so the aroma isn't too hot and harsh.

I also sip it. No rush to drink makes it easier on the stomach if I'm not pounding them back.

I also only drink straight with the good stuff. Lower end are used as mixers for whiskey sours or something else.

I pretty much drink it exclusively neat, except for the occasional old fashioned. I might add a few drops of water to stuff >120 proof, but ice is way too much dilution, IMO

I only drink my whiskey neat, regardless of how cheap it is. I used to like it mixed with ginger ale, but lately I just want a ginger ale on the side to sip occasionally. I could care less if other people drink it neat or mixed with whatever; whatever wets their whistle.

Can you find Blanton's in Raleigh? It seems like there is some artificial supply/demand thing going on whenever I pop in an ABC store in ENC.

I mean...Bulleit is good...but it's not exactly top shelf.

And for the "I ONLY DRINK MY WHISKEY NEAT" guys...a splash of water really opens the flavors, especially in the good stuff.

no one.

so far only one person has argued that it is not top shelf.

What do you guys consider top shelf? I've had Woodford Reserve, thought it was pretty good. It's a little more than Bulleit, but geez, if 40 for a fifth isn't top shelf, what is?

Bulleit is closer to $30 for a fifth, not quite top shelf prices.

^^Hmmm, Ok I'll buy that. The Woodford Reserve I bought seemed like it was close to 40. But I'm not gonna spend any more than that on any kind of liquor. I guess I'm just cheap.

Or poor.

the implication being that he assumed I was saying that Bulleit is top shelf, obviously

or that such treatment is traditionally reserved for top shelf whiskey, which Bulleit is not...

Bulleit, and whiskey like Bulleit, shouldn't be mixed with soda

that's usually reserved for the lowest shelf whiskey

if you can't handle whiskey on its own, you're wasting money by diluting a better whiskey with soda

well sure, but not all whiskey drinks are whiskey + coke.

i wouldn't want to use the cheap shit in a manhattan for example. you can still taste the quality of the something like bulleit in drinks like that.

So it doesn't it make you sad when people put vermouth in bulleit?

it makes me sad when people use shit vermouth to make a manhattan. I don't care if you mix your Breckenridge with soda, but don't buy a $6 bottle of Martini Rossi to go with your $50 bottle of bourbon. If your vermouth isn't worth drinking straight, then it's not worth being used as a mixer either.

Vya and Carpano Antica are my preferred sweet vermouths.

Globe cube does fine for me. I enjoy a cool drink over room temp, and the melt adds enough water to bring out the extra flavors.

Go to brand is Eagle Rare.

It happened back in the bayou many years ago
Satan came to take him and he did it real slow
Well, they rushed him back to see the doctor
The doctor just shook his head,
"Twenty years of rotgut whiskey
Done killed the poor man dead."
He drank ole poison whiskey
'Til it killed him dead.

I take my whiskey like my women - weak mixed with a lot of ginger

but really if I'm shooting, Beam. Beam is underrated imo

Sipping, usually a single malt scotch.
