Rogan has his ups and downs for me, I've definitely caught some interesting interviews he's done.

I had to stop mainly because of YOUTUBE's algo. There's a lot to unpack here:

Are podcasts worse than Twitter, YouTube, and Fox News? Is it the incentives of YouTube and modern social media that promote the "BEN SHAPIRO OWNS LIBERAL PROFESSOR" clickbait BS that are to blame?

Is Joe Rogan specifically some how a promoter of these extremist ideologies? If he is responsible for propagating these bad ideas should you then boycott Bernie Sanders, Tulsi Gabbard, Michael Pollan, John Carmack and Jim Gaffigan? Like the breadth of these guests is so broad for that to be just laughable IMHO. My point above about tracking the guests is how can you know Michael Pollan's work on both psychedelics and the food industry and have an opinion? Can you agree with Pollan's views on the industrial food system but not psychedelics? Most people are complex with many nuanced views--some people even have abhorrent views, but totally reasonable views about other things.

Peterson, ignoring his politics, in particular has some pretty interesting views on religion. In the tradition of Carl Jung and Nietzsche he's well studied on the role of myth in psychology and how the bible stories map to certain behaviors of the human psyche. He's also got broad knowledge of authoritarian states and the role of evil and responsibility of the individual in such systems. If you're the guy manning the ovens, in all likelihood you'll just say you were doing your job, but it's your responsibility to revolt. It is that revolt that stops the progress of the world into hell. That gets lost when Vice et all post edited clickbait with crazy headlines. Can you think his ideas on authoritarianism are interesting without being labeled "alt-right" or whatever the fuck Twitter is excited about today?

Should these extremist people like McGinnis mentioned above allowed a platform or does everyone need to shun them? Do the the views of these people propagate more or less when given a platform? There are a long tradition of arguments in favor of allowing them to propagate going back to John Stuart Mill's "On Liberty".

My own views: Click bait and TV news is garbage and you're less informed following any of it--read books, study your interests deeply, and long form is better than 140 characters. Free speech is like natural selection, if you constrain it then it doesn't stamp out the deletarious mutations like Gavin McGinnis and they then become cancerous and kill the host (society).
