Disney+ didn't exist 3 months ago. Streaming has been around for over a decade. Netflix has been around a very long time now. They were one of (if not the) first to offer subscription based streaming content for the masses. I remember, for me it started as a freebie to those that subscribed to the mail-order DVD service. They were pioneers. Disney was not.
Besides, you don't think Disney paid millions or more in analytics prior to launching? There was absolutely no risk to the house of mouse here - they knew it was going to be a success. They had years of Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and others to build from. They even botched the UI at first, even though they had every other streamer from which to get ideas.
Like I said, I'm going to stick with it, but there's no excuse not to have something else big lined up.1/31/2020 10:25:50 AM |

alright, George H.W. Bush
way to compare a universally beloved, all-time great show, that airs on broadcast tv, at 8:00, to two shows that air on cable at 10:00
the same show that aired in syndication for years during the afternoon. neither of your comparisons would ever achieved that

I am one of the biggest Simpsons fans you will ever meet and I think it's pretty irresponsible to let a 6 year old watch the Simpsons.

how old were you when you started watching?
I don’t understand what would be too much for a kid over 6, especially when you consider the garbage that is marketed for kids that age on the Disney Channel

@TGL3, most 6 year old brains take things very literally. Plus, many, including my daughter, have been watching cartoons and shows that are actually made for 6 year old brains. Most of those shows have simple concepts - good guys need to stop the bad guy from getting mcguffin to keep them from controlling their world, etc. They don't get a lot of subtly, and allegory and metaphors are just not for them.
I don't see how watching the Simpsons without a somewhat seasoned view of the broader world would be any fun for a 6 year old.
I take it you haven't spent a whole lot of time with young children. 9, 10, 11? I bet the Simpsons would be a great way to introduce some adult themes to that age group. But 6 year olds just aren't there yet. 2/1/2020 7:06:31 AM |

So I actually did give The Simpson a shot last night with my 10 and 6 year old daughters. I went with a pretty neutral episode - my 10 year old laughed at some of the jokes, but most of the content went way over my 6 year olds head. She got to the point where she asked to change it to something else cause she didn't get it.
Feel like that's a good test. The Treehouse of Horror episodes would definitely be too much for either kid. Well, my kids at least. 2/1/2020 3:24:33 PM |

Sounds like how I used to view Married...with Children.
As a young child I thought it was dreadful. Now I see clips or compilations of clips on facebook and want to download the whole series. 2/1/2020 5:59:29 PM |

Yea we never watched shows like The Simpsons with the kids when they were younger. Now that they are 12 and 16 we started doing so. Probably a year ago we started watching Futurama with them as the first adult comedy cartoon. They loved it so we have followed up with several others and are now watching Rick and Morty. Still haven't done the Simpsons, Family Guy South Park or Archer. 2/1/2020 8:54:40 PM |

I'm surprised Disney was ok with the language and sexual references, but cheers for them bringing Hamilton to the masses.
I saw the show on tour from the back row, and even that was incredible. I don't think watching it from home is comparable to the live experience, but different does not mean worse. This production helps you see some incredible choreography and facial expressions that you just can't focus on in a huge theater.
And of course the music is still amazing and the performers are top notch. 7/4/2020 1:36:57 AM |

I read an article saying they did have to bleep out one “fuck” to keep it pg-13. Funny you mention the facial expressions and stuff. I was specifically wondering if anyone watching live in a theater would even notice all the spit/drool all over the Kings face, that was very obvious watching on tv. 7/4/2020 8:22:21 AM |

A good example that stood out to me was how often Hamilton gets distracted by women walking across the stage, you can see him turn and look. When I first saw it I thought the affair came out of nowhere and they had portrayed him with much more integrity up to that point, but now "Say No to This" makes sooooo much more sense, he always had a problem.

It’s a little bit of muh to me. I am more of a fan of Benjamin Franklin. Alexandre Hamilton is fine. This is like a brainwashing play. I just started to watch. But I doubt I have patience to finish the whole three hours. 7/4/2020 1:35:46 PM |

Also it could be a nightmare for the audience of ESL countries. They speak too fast and very hard to translate to other languages, especially Chinese. So it’s gonna be very difficult to promote this play around the world.

This definitely has an effect of brainwashing. The media pushes everyone to watch it, and the ratings are damn high. For me the coolest character is of course the King George. He is my motivation to keep going. 7/6/2020 8:38:09 AM |

King George was actually quite wonderful in all of his scenes, but I actually found Washington and Eliza to be two of the best characters.
Miranda definitely took some historical liberties, but I wonder if teachers won't be frustrated by some of the inaccuracies in a few years as more kids/teens see this movie and mistake the play for being 100% factual? 7/6/2020 9:15:01 AM |

The facial expressions are what I am looking forward to the most - just general close-ups, as well. I will say that the lyrics of the songs up to this point help clarify that he is a total womanizer. Hamilton is referred to as a tom-cat more than once, including during his wedding. Prior to him meeting Eliza ('helpless') he and his friends sings about "deflowering" the ladies .7/6/2020 10:00:03 AM |

You said the play is brainwashing, but now it's the media? And the media doesn't need to push it. The play brought in more than double the revenue in 4 years than Rent did in 12, and 50% more than Cats did in 18. It is one of the most popular pieces of entertainment in American history.

Well it can brainwash global citizens, not Americans. Just like Maoism in the 20th century. First born in China, then exported to the world. Many foreigners became believers.

Do you agree Hamilton in 20 is like the movie Lincoln in 12? It was also shown in an election year. Many people burst into tears after watching it. This one has an even stronger effect. It may not brainwash but create more patriots, especially when released on national day.
