Just curious. Been a while since I lived there.

How has Raleigh changed in regards to economic, technological, socio-cultural, environmental, spatial and institutional conditions
1/23/2021 3:18:58 PM
1/23/2021 6:32:46 PM
Can I get a thread do over?
1/23/2021 7:43:31 PM
yes.

Fayetteville St. reopened to vehicular traffic in 2006. There was basically no downtown/nightlife as we now know it (pre-covid, at least) prior to that. It’s amazing how much the areas around Moore and Nash Square and the Warehouse District have changed as well. As a native, I’d say that’s what stand out the most to me. Midtown development is another big one. Hillsborough St. and Mission Valley fading away sucks.[Edited on January 24, 2021 at 10:13 PM. Reason : .]

Alcohol proprietorship changes, got it.
1/25/2021 9:44:51 PM
Most of that happened by the time I moved in 2011. There are a few great restaurants that have changed hands so not just alcohol.
1/25/2021 9:53:42 PM
Moore Square used to be great, until all the homeless people showed up-dtownral
1/25/2021 10:30:29 PM
Raleigh is better now than it was 15 years ago.Except for the pandemic thing.
1/26/2021 1:16:05 PM
It hasn't changed at all. We're all still blasting Pussycat Dolls in our H2s.
1/26/2021 2:11:40 PM
Redevelopment on steroids.

It also ranks 5th in having to wash your ass every time you leave the house because of humidity. 7th in mosquitos, 2nd in terrible snow drivers. On the flip side it ranks 3rd in per capita bonjangles and cookouts and 1st in pork bbq.
2/2/2021 4:36:17 PM
^basically how I feel
2/2/2021 5:21:13 PM
I don't think Raleigh can beat Boston or Atlanta on the list, but I enjoy the rankings for now. Austin is our major competitor. The scores are very close.
2/3/2021 8:45:26 AM
Can't beat Boston or Atlanta for what? They're totally different types of cities. It's definitely personal preference but it would take a LOT of money to get me to tolerate living in ATL. I'd be much more open to Boston, however.
2/3/2021 9:46:35 AM
^I won't say personal preference b/c it depends on serious algorithms and calculations, but it's a ridiculous list. All capitol cities in the east coast are ranked in the bottom half except Raleigh and Atlanta. Our neighbors, Tallahassee, Richmond and Columbus are ranked #28, #32 and #35.

Hillsborough st looks like "midtown"
2/4/2021 10:29:50 AM
When do you think Raleigh will have the third belt-line, the 640? When greater Raleigh can represent the whole triangle area.[Edited on February 4, 2021 at 10:48 AM. Reason : ;]
2/4/2021 10:41:18 AM
^^^ hahah
2/4/2021 6:38:52 PM
I have a job now.
2/21/2021 10:15:09 AM
The Greater Raleigh area, or say the Triangle, is bidding the World University Olympics in 2027. Something promising is coming to town. It will be the biggest event ever held by the Greater Raleigh. Think about the opening ceremony in Carter-Finley Stadium. Oh my.
2/24/2021 8:43:21 AM
Hope Tank Tyler opens the ceremonies with Welcome to the Carter.
2/24/2021 9:54:51 AM
Maybe Michael Jordan, the biggest sport figure in NC.
2/24/2021 10:07:12 AM
Fuck that guy, he went to UNC.Maybe Russell Wilson. He finished up at Wisconsin but at least he played at the Carter or went to the school that owns CF.
2/24/2021 10:09:42 AM
RW is not a NC native. Forgive MJ. He is truly North Carolinian except didn't go to State.
2/24/2021 10:12:59 AM
^Don't tell Brooklyn that, they still claim MJ, haha.
3/1/2021 2:39:46 PM
If you ask the "Livable Raleigh" crowd it has completely gone to shit.

12/20/2021 11:08:04 PM
The gates are only down during the day and during the week.

It is gentrifying like crazy which is pushing out a lot of people, especially in black and brown communities. The mayor is corrupt as hell making bank off that by taking a job with Barnhill Construction while still holding office. The city used to be affordable, but that is long gone. Now it is a haven for tech bros and wine moms.[Edited on January 29, 2022 at 3:49 PM. Reason : .]

Where do the black and brown people live now? Kent, kaplan, gorman crossings, and kensington?
