course rating :4 - Awesome
course comments :For every book you read you have to write a one page response. There are two bigger papers and a final 8-12 page paper.

course comments :Okay, I thought I rated this already...must have disappeared, but overall a really good class. The material was really interesting, but sad and shocking (the class is on the Holocaust). I took this course to fulfill a Gen. Ed. requirement. Several books to read.

class comments :Class was not too hard. Very interesting and insightful. I learned a lot of things about the Holocaust that I did not know before. Papers on topics (he gave us lists, but we could pick our own topic if it was not on the list), reviews of the books and films. Extra credit opportunities were given. More girls were in the class than guys. Definitely attend class--he notices if you are not there.

instructor comments :Halpern is awesome! Funny, helpful, knows a lot about the subject. He encouraged students to learn as much as they could about the Holocaust and other holocausts that have occurred in the world.

course :ENG 246
course rating :4 - Awesome
course comments :You read a variety of books about the Holocaust. Fascinating but depressing. There's a significant focus on the deeper philosophical and psychological issues raised by the Holocaust.
class :Fall 2005 section 001
grade received :A
class rating :4 - Awesome
class comments :Class is spent on discussion usually, with a few films sprinkled in. You have to write a short response paper for each book and film. There are two 5-7 page papers, and one 8-10 page paper. You have a good bit of leeway on what you write about for those three. There's no formal attendence policy, but you can flunk if you skip often. Staple your papers.

instructor comments :I'm signed up for my fourth class with him. He's fantastic.
