I'd assumed that the Laws of the Jungle and "Welcome to the Jungle" were referring to Carter-Finley. Okay, the factuality of actual wolves living in the jungle is debatable, but I think it's a badass name.

Quote :
"GREENSBORO, N.C.- The head of ACC football officials, Doug Rhoads, met with media Monday morning at the ACC Football Kickoff to discuss the NCAA rules changes that will take effect this season.

Below is a summary of the changes:

1.) Injuries: If an injury occurs during the final minute of a half or the game, and the injury is the only reason for the stoppage in play the offended team has the option of a ten second run-off. The offended team can, however, refuse the run-off. Also, if the offending team has a timeout, they can use that timeout to avoid the run-off. If both teams have injuries, there is no run-off. If there are less than 10 seconds on the clock at the end of a half or the game, and there is a 10-second runoff the game is over by rule.

2.) Spiking the ball: There must be three seconds or more on the clock at the end of a half or the game in order for a team to spike the ball and stop the clock. If there is 2.9 seconds or less on the clock, the team must run a play and cannot stop the clock by spiking the ball. If the ball is snapped with 2.9 seconds on the clock or less and the ball is spiked, the game will be deemed over. WTF??

3.) Targeting and initiating with the crown of the helmet: The rule in and of itself has not changed, the difference is in the penalty. Both of these fouls now require an automatic ejection. If the foul occurs during the first half, the player will remain ineligible for the remainder of the contest; however, if the foul occurs during the second half, the player will be ineligible for the first half of the next game. If the foul occurs during the second half of the last regular seasons game, the ejection will carry over into the championship game, the bowl game or the first game of the next season.

4.) Targeting a defenseless player: There are nine types of players that can are considered to be defenseless and a player cannot hit them above the shoulders. If this occurs, the player will be automatically ejected.

5.) Illegal crack-back block: An illegal crack-back block is a block below the waist. Players outside the tacklebox (more than seven yards out) or a player in motion cannot block another player below the waist until after the ball is snapped and significant time has run off the clock. After time has run off the clock, any player may be blocked below the waist as long as the blocking player is in front of the player being blocked or is within a 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock zone.

^^It may be a bad ass name, but calling it the jungle is as arbitrary as calling it death valley. We all know how well that nickname for a stadium goes over in a state with Carolina in its name. Calling a stadium something because its cool is the opposite of cool. Sorry

^Teams are just going to throw the ball to a slot receiver's feet. Same outcome as running a play and will only take a fraction of a second more. Also link please.

I'm not real crazy about this automatic ejection thing. So if you run into the kicker its gonna be an ejection? Maybe its up to the ref's discretion about "targeting" but I don't like it.

yeah, roughing the kicker is not the same as targeting a defenseless player.

I'm assuming you could get ejected for hitting a kicker, but you'd probably have to do something like spear them instead of going to block the kick.

don't worry, I'm sure we will be screwed by these rules many, many times this year.

[Edited on July 22, 2013 at 2:36 PM. Reason : yeah if you hit a kicker in the head you prob deserve to be ejected.]

Yeah I realize that may be far fetched but I was just saying it is ripe for a ridiculous situation like when the automatic penalty for celebration screwed over K-State a few years back in the bowl game. A kicker with his leg up is considered defenseless for instance so I just brought that up as a situation where you could see a bad call if there's no room left for discretion.

3 seconds for a spike is dumb. How long can that take? Should be 0.3 like in basketball.

So a college ref said he feels Clowneys hit would be an ejection this year.

This rule seems kind of redundant. I mean you are not supposed to hit above the shoulders period right? Also what are the nine types of players?? I'd hate to be a ref trying to officiate with these damn rules.

Also the 3 sec spike thing is fucking retarded. Still gives the offense a chance to spike it to a slot WR and still have a sec or so for a FG. It'll be great though to see the first team to screw this up and lose. Hope it's Bryn Renner and the holes.

probably the fact that the clock-keeper can't keep up with anything under 3 seconds...too difficult for them to manage or something.

and how would clowney's hit be an ejection? That player was not defenseless.

^it would likely be an ejection due to hitting with the crown of the helmet, not targeting. As a defender you can't be looking at the ground when making a hit with your head, it's dangerous for you and the opponent.

not sure if this has been announced yet, but new jerseys at about 10:08 of this video from the uniform updates for NCAA 14.

looks like the front will say "NC STATE" with striping on the pants/shoulders. also a black outline on the red helmet logo.

I know its "player safety" issue but leaving the interpretation of the crown of helmet rule to the ref and replay official makes the likelihood of this altering a games outcomes higher. Basically the ACC director of officials made it known that they are watching it and singled out Clowney whom UNC plays week 1 in Columbia which means it will be an ACC crew at that game.

The main problem with the ejection rule is that many players will be ejected because the person they went to tackle lowered their head immediately prior to being hit. Hell, coaches will probably train their players to sell hits so they can get as many 2nd stringers out there as possible. Flops in football.

The spiking the ball rule is laughable. It'll probably be one of those rules everyone from the top down knows is stupid but they have to wait a whole year for the opportunity to make it to go away.

I like the changes to the jersey. The helmet got a black stripe or outlining of the S from what you can see from commercials/instagram pics from the past which I like. The red helmets we had the last 2 years needed some type of black outline on the block S.

Also don't really mind the NC STATE being on the football uniforms - the STATE needs to stay on basketball, but I don't think anyone cared too much about football. I'd love it if we had a throwback uniform game once a year where we wore something like the old S helmets from the '60s - '70s or the diamond S helmets from the '80s-'90s.

What is the reasoning behind the spike rule?

Is it to avoid clock issues where they aren't sure if the ball was spiked in time? I don't understand that. It seems so arbitrary.. why not 5 seconds? Why not 1 second? why not eliminate the spike altogether? Just curious what the issue was for the need to add that rule.

^I don't buy that at all about "fans don't want matte helmets or black jerseys".

maybe the fans that go to the caravan things don't want that...

but a lot of fans want special jerseys to wear every once in a while. Not every game, but once or twice a season. It gets the fans excited, the players like it, and it gets attention...what the program needs.

And I think by "traditional", he is referring to the fact that our fans like to hold on to the glory days 30-40 years ago.

It is time to move forward, not keep grasping to the days when we won ACC championships.

So Adam and Joe were making a big deal about us not having any players on the first or second preseason teams coming out of the ACC media days. Adam was really down on the team, said we'd be lucky to win 4 ACC games and making a bowl would be a big accomplishment.

Joe was a little less pessimistic, but overall neither expects us to be any good. I guess we will see. If the Ark transfer QB is any good, then I think we can surprise people. If he is not, then we will really struggle to score and probably suck donkey balls.

It's Debbie vs the Board of Trustees and the Board won. The year that we went back to having just State on jerseys, the board said we needed to be known as NC State and not just State. The Block S State on last year's football jerseys was the compromise between the two with this year bring back NC State.

I don't mind NC State on the FB jerseys at all. Prefer just State on the BB ones. It'd be nice to stick with one jersey design for more than one season though.
