Brubaker's Criminal is out today. This better be worth all the hype I've been giving it.

They need to end the company-wide crossover thing. For at least 10 years.

That's what they NEED to do.

I just got Ultimate Power. I hope it doesnt tarnish the otherwise almost perfect "Supremeverse" track record.

should i even bother checking out the quasi-reboot of the wildstorm universe?

they've had some of the best and worst comics over the years.

Probably not. They're bringing back anything 90's right now. New AoA stories, Onslaught Returns, Wildstorm, Heroes Reborn, all of the things we malign the 90's for. I fear for the return of the Spider-Clone, quite honestly.

But lest I be only the giver of bad news, there's this:

http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=89476

and this:

http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=89492

to get all fanboy'ed up about.

spider clone has already returned in the ultimate universe

and i liked the Heroes Reborn version of Iron Man, the rest of that universe i don't care about

and i get my AoA fix from Exiles

how is onslaught going to return, did magneto's and x's missing powers merge together or some shit?

Ultimate Spider-Clone is still pretty interesting, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

I have no idea what's bringing Onslaught back other than Marvel's notion that between Annihilation(don't care), Civil War(awesome, I don't care what you say), Ultimate Power(boring), and World War Hulk(we'll see) there aren't enough "event" type of stories going on.

"New AoA stories"

Say what...? I may be in the minority, but the AoA was my favorite X-story arc ever. It's occurred to me over the years that one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much is that it had a finite ending point and there wasn't potential to continue to drag out the story like a soap opera. I've heard that there have been a few AoA spin-off stories such that the nuclear salvo seen in Omega didn't go off (WTF?) and the story could thus continue. Is this true?

^^Yeah, they did a pretty servicable sequel in which Magneto has taken credit for the nukes not going off while hunting down the last of Apocalypse's crew. Some of it was really good and some of it was blatantly to show us AoA versions of newer characters(X-23 & Xorn, for example).

The last of the Complete AoA Epic trade paperbacks comes out today, which I am looking forward to. I just didn't have the desire to keep up with it all when it was happening, but these collections put everything in its proper order, which is pretty rad.

The Blink mini was the only halfway decent thing that came after X-Men Omega unless you include Exiles.

That AoA mini last summer was pretty lame.

I'm all caught up on the Walking Dead. Plus I just ordered the HC yesterday, so yay.

I'm really liking Girls, but man it's fucked up. I'm assuming after issue 18, something badass is about to happen with the giant sperm spaceship thingie.

I'm working my way through miracleman, and it's been pretty badass so far.

So I just bought the original nightcrawler comic series set of 4 from 1985 at one of the many comic shops in chapel hill, and I already have the most recent series from 2004, a set of 12 that I got from foundations edge (& a statuette from capital comics). That only leaves the middle series from 2002... the Icon comics where they do sets of 4 profiling different characters.

I can't find the full set of Icon: Nightcrawler on amazon or ebay. If anyone has any suggestions on where to try buying these, let me know. (Or any issue from AoA focused on Nightcrawler - Kurt Darkholme)

ended up purchasing those other nightcrawler comics online from various sources to get the full sets... theres just something more satisfying about finding a good comic find in a store as opposed to searching online

Does anyone know of any comic book shops in the trianngle area that I may have missed?

There's Chapel Hill comics on franklin street. Convienent location for students, but not a huge selection.

Ultimate comics has a store in Chapel Hill... and I've heard of one in Durham too... but I've not seen it yet.

Most hobby shops tend to have some... like Cerebral Hobbies had them until they closed.

Sci Fi Genre opened around the same time cerebral closed and is bigger hobby/comic place than cerebral was, and on the west end of durham so its close by. (it was a big online place and sold through ebay too before getting a physical store http://www.scifigenre.com/ )

Thats all I can think of for chapel hill/carrboro/durham... save for all the borders/barnes & nobles/walden books type places that always have a few.
-

In raleigh there was capital comics & foundations edge, some game place in cary near the walmart there, and a place or two somewhere in north raleigh.

So what have I missed comic book or hobby shop wise?

Also there's a comic/hobby shop in burlington called hypermind
http://www.hypermindonline.com/

They're about as far off from here as Raleigh is. Basically anywhere in north carolina that is a comic or hobby shop, I'd be interested to know about to check out whenever I might be passing through that area. I'm sure greensboro has got to have some.

I have the first 3 issues. Not bad. The art and story are solid.

I also bought the first 2 Punisher War Journal and I really like the art and story. Very solid. Never really dug Punisher till now.

I've been loving the hell out of Criminal. It's not as good as Sleeper was, but Sleeper may end up being Bru's magnum opus(although he's clearly building towards something incredible in Captain America of all books).

Capital Comics II is right on Glenwood. It's in the same little strip mall as Casa Carbone. It's a very nice store, that one. Much more organized than the one on Hillsborough, and they have a ton more items at this one.

I've enjoyed the Punisher since the mid 90's, but I actually bailed out a while before they "killed him off." I never got back into him until Ennis started writing. Welcome Back, Frank was pretty good, but honestly the MAX books are absolutely riveting. The Nicky Cavella stories are the most depraved things I've ever seen in a so-called comic book.
