People keep suggesting that this is a likely outcome but I just don't see it. Namely, Iran, Italy, and Afghanistan cases make that clear to me. Also this is what we definitely don't want. Flu season exists in cold areas only because it spikes due to less humidity. In warm areas flu remains at a constant level all the time. If COVID-19 appears to be endemic (everywhere all the time), then that would fundamentally change the world more than it already has.

All of these places are cool in the winter. Your point may be valid but you chose the wrong countries

^ that is fair. I was thinking since they are not traditionally winter time cold. But that is still far different than hot. Mumbai, India has a lot of cases, so perhaps a better example there.

No. The virus can't replicate inside a mosquito.

Yeah sounds like shelter in place going in to effect starting Monday is what I’m hearing.

Also on the subject of the virus slowing down in the hot months - y’all are smarter than me about this stuff. But wasn’t the deadliest wave of the Spanish flu after the the initial spring wave died down and then it ramped back up in the fall? And obviously I know this and the flu aren’t the same thing so I guess maybe it’s dumb to compare them.

30 Day shelter in place.

Hard to see it being enforced really well but, necessary step. Hope they keep allowing folks to go outside via greenways, parks, golf etc.

Massive hit to the economy.

fyi, stay-at-home and shelter-in-place are not the same thing, the former being a little less strict

Not like they can enforce either one to the T.

Wont be much difference for folks in counties with restrictions already in place, just now its statewide.

I've seen posts on FB that state without ML, these orders basically mean nothing, and they can try, but not legally cite you for being out.

I have no idea if there is any credence to that at all.

Well my whole thing is, why would you even want to be out?

I've been cooped up with kids for 3 weeks now, almost 24/7, with the exception of 3 grocery store trips, and two quick trips to school to pick up school work.

If i want to take my two sons out golfing and it is just us there is no problem with that. Same as tennis or any other individual sport/exercise.

Lots of exempt businesses/industries. Some more obvious than others. For example, my farm (hi rwoody!) is exempt. Because, well, it’s a farm...For food and stuff. That’s obvious. But all the businesses that support farming are exempt as well. Fertilizer companies, chemical companies, farm supply stores, packaging suppliers, etc, etc. What I’m seeing from the NCDA is that basically the entire green industry is also being considered “essential”. So landscapers, garden centers, etc can remain open.

Tbh, other than this announcement perhaps being a wake up call for some people...I don’t see this changing much, really.

Hell is Coming: Here is the Mathematical Proof
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/hell-coming-mathematical-proof-185019616.html

Quote :
"“Except a few educated people, no one has any idea that there are already around 2 million infected people in America today and the American death toll will exceed 15,000 in just 24 days. If we don’t take strict measures, we will be reporting 1000 deaths per day in just 3 weeks.

The attacks on 9/11 killed around 3000 people. We will be reporting a 9/11 every three days. That’s why we say “hell is coming”.

This is a mathematical certainty. It is inevitable.”"

^4 but our deaths on March 26ths were only a quarter of the predicted based on his model. So are we to assume distancing has course corrected us to some degree or that his model was inaccurate?

The estimate for March 26 was 800 total deaths thus far, the real number was something like 1300, if anything the estimate might be conservative.

[Edited on March 28, 2020 at 9:40 AM. Reason : It’s not death toll on that day]

Even if they can't enforce it very well at the individual level, it will also have the effect of forcing businesses to close and not have their employees come in. There are plenty of people who would otherwise be isolating themselves more, but can't because they're going to work every day.

You're making it sounds like getting infected with the coronavirus is a bigger deal than getting infected with HIV!

Pretty comical that breweries and bottle shops are "essential" and can just do curbside pick up or delivery, haha.

Yeah I was struggling to come up with a store/business that was not currently closed but would now be closed after the stay at home order. Vape shops were one of the few I could come up with. Hair salons, nail salons, tattoo shops were already told to close before this, right?

Interestingly enough the link shared just above by UJustWait84 says that Florida will never hit a hospital bed or ICU shortage, in spite of their best efforts. Meanwhile it shows we will be severely lacking beds in NC. Pwnt.
