I'm OK with it. I think it's because you already know everything. For someone who hasn't read the books, it's gotta be hard to keep up with all the characters and plots. So you have to repeat stuff for people who didn't catch on the first time. When I was reading the books I remember being all, "Who's this Theon guy??" And he's barely been in the show. Without that scene, nobody would remember who he is a few epsiodes down the line.

Anyone notice that the opening credits changed? I think it originally started out in Winterfell and went to the Wall and a few other places but now it starts at Kings Landing then goes to the Eyrie then to Winterfell.

I think early on someone made a comment that the opening graphic would change to show places that are important for that episode. I think Kings Landing, Winterfell, and the Wall will always be shown.

^^ Each book pretty much takes a year, shouldn't be a problem except with Sansa who's supposed to be 13, is actually 15, and looks 17.

exactly the case with myself. therefore i don't mind getting stuff repeated or even laid out in simple terms all right in front of me. not everyone who watches this show has read the books certainly.

I know I have to repeat things to the people who haven't read the books, hell I have and I can't remember who Selmy is.

Also, everyone in tv is older than the character they play, the plot mentioned she hasn't started having her period yet, she's supposed to be young

^^ still possible he is in the next season. They haven't ruled that out last I saw.

Anyway, awesome episode tonight. Really brought to life so many great scenes from the book. Syrio's scene was brought to life very well.

One touch I loved there was the added quote "What do we say to the God of Death? Not Today!" That quote didn't appear in the book. He simply told Arya to run when it was down to just him and Ser Meryn Trant. However, there has always been speculation as to whether Syrio died there or not and that line just furthers the speculation imo. Almost a nod to the readers there.

Can't believe there are only 2 episodes left

^for some reason i thought that quote was in the book, but i must have heard it in a preview or somewhere else and thought i read it in the book.

episode checklist
rickon - check
hodor - check
wolves - check
timmett son of timmett - check

excellent episode. by far the best of the series.

Agreed that was my favorite episode. And I wasn't sure so I looked up that chapter in the book just now and I don't see that anywhere. He just tells her to run without the extra quote. She stays long enough to see his practice sword split in half and then she runs. I really think it is a hint though since GRRM himself scripted this episode. Meaning he purposely re-inserted that line in there that isn't in the book. I'll say this: he is either hinting or toying with readers and either way I enjoyed it.

PS Seeing Syrio beat the goons with his practice sword and still stand up to Trant with half a practice sword was awesome. I was really looking forward to seeing that and it did not disappoint

I've always claimed from day fucking number one that Syrio didn't die. I really think he and Arya's other friend are the same person or something of that nature. I've always been told that I was dreaming and there was no way. Great to see Martin throw that line in there.

All the scenes with The Greatjon were great. They also did a great job of showing Rob establish his new relationship as his mother's lord very early on.

We need a thread about this show for people who didn't read the book. This is pretty much a compare and contract the show's story line with the book's

Did Drogo rip that dude's tongue out through his neck?

And his wound was pretty weak. I've had worse myself that went untreated. I was a bit disappointed in seeing that.

^ Yes, yes he did...and it was fucking awesome!

Also I'm going to nitpick here...and I'm ok with that, but Ghost is silent...he never growls or barks. Hence GHOST. I can't imagine it would have been that hard to edit out the wolf noises.

Everyone was making a big deal about Drogo's little cut, it's like in all the Dothraki's years of conquest they have never gotten cuts before.

btw, just finished the first book. Ending was crazy. Looking forward to seeing it on film.

^ yeah his wound was really just a scratch. i don't see why they couldn't have made it a deeper cut, something worth actually worrying about so that it would make sense for dany to insist drogo get it treated. the way that scene came across made it seem like she would also demand he put a splint on a stubbed toe.

I really think its just illustrating how much Drogo dotes on Dany, he'll do pretty much anything she says if it will make her happy.

I mean I could be in the minority here but I was kinda "meh" with the ending.

Still a great series so far. Hope to see something crazy happen by the end of it.

(Also really wish that Barrister had thrown down)

No normal people care about the dogs. The show is just fine without them.

The Dothraki in this show are just pussies. Jason Mamoa is a pussy. Eyeshadow is for pussies. And the land across the ocean looks like a tropical beach vacation spot.

^Yeah, it was all just rising action.

I didn't know Selmy was coming back but it was pretty much foreshadowed heavily... kinda like how Joffrey was really Jaime's son.

^That's Robert Arryn, the Lord of the Vale, Warden of the East, titles titles. He's the only child of Jon Arryn (the former hand whose death sparked this entire chain of events) and Lysa Arryn (the younger, FAR crazier sibling of Catelyn Stark). Robert is described as very sickly in the books, and his attitude is a product of his insane, overprotective mother indulging his every whim.
