"Thanks...though it doesn't explain why nobody calls her out for being a nutjob in the series "

well I think a lot of people realize she is a nutjob (her sister included) based on the first scene in the throne room of the Eyrie. Her sister is being polite in the wake of her husband's death (but can't hold patience any longer when she doesn't pass the letter along about Ned and Robb) and Tyrion was in no position to be bad-mouthing the crazy queen when his life is at stake.

However, most everyone else we have seen that would interact with her is a knight, or guard, or lord, in her domain and no one wants to "bite the hand that feeds." She is putting food on their plate and also has a son who loves to "make people fly" through the moon door. It's in their best interest to simply go about their normal business. That and some of them are want-to-be-suitors of newly widowed royalty (even if she is cray-cray).

Yeah. That scene was better for him not going on a suicide mission of killing a couple of them before being taken down. Killing them for sport isn't worth someone like him dying over.

Also, the kid's name is Robin Arryn in the TV series. It's Robert Arryn in the books.

In response to ^

Possible Spoiler (even though I brought it up on the last page)

it is undetermined at 4 books into the series. based on both the scene in the book and the scene in the show i believe he is still alive. but 3000 pages later and we still haven't seen him again (at least not as syrio forel)

End possible spoiler

Probably just so people don't get him confused with King Robert.

they say they plan not to. They've been specifically quoted in interviews saying they would almost be stupid to try and depart from the overall story (ie meaning small changes have to be made) given the enormous amount of detailed source material and good story that brought them to want to do this in the first place.

Obviously that can change down the line but I'm just posting what they have said. It is a little different than something like True Blood or Dexter which is "based on" or more or less "inspired by" the books whereas this they are trying to do an adaptation. We could still see some Lord of the Rings type changes (leaving our Tom B and ramping up Arwen's role etc.) but my guess is not major ones with the way Martin is so involved in it and the fact that a large % of their audience is made of die-hard reader fans in the first place who they are banking on buying merchandise and blu-rays out the wazoo to supplement ratings that probably will never compare to something like The Sopranos due to the subject matter.

he's occasionally called "sweetrobin" in the books so calling him robin really isn't much of a departure.

and barristen is awesome.

Yo CalledToArms stop posting in this thread. We get it, you read the books now post in the other thread.

You drop constant spoilers. Ex:

Quote :
"However, there has always been speculation as to whether Syrio died there or not and that line just furthers the speculation imo. Almost a nod to the readers there."

If you find one other single example of me dropping a spoiler in this thread I will give you a whole quarter. A whole shiny quarter.

I think I have been the most spoiler-free in here while attempting to still helpfully answer questions about the books. I've answered scores of questions via PMs instead of posting specific stuff in this thread, used spoiler tags, or avoided posting something altogether and was a proponent of setting up both this thread as well as the book thread to separate scope.

I apologize for making one mistake regarding Syrio (that I have already apologized for making on this very page). But that's a minor spoiler at best and I can man-up to and live with the mistake.

I haven't been following along near as closely as I wanted in this thread due to some personal things that have prevented me from watching episodes when they air. But if there are issues with spoilers or posts need to be edited after the alloted time or deleted to spare the non-read viewers then just PM me and let me know. I have no problems doing that.

My simplest answer to avoid any spoilers is simply that she is one of my favorite characters (and a favorite of the majority of people I know who read the books) and I was worried about how she would be portrayed on screen due to her age.

My brother randomly threw on the first episode early last week (on demand), and ever since I've been hooked. I finally caught up and watched episode 8 live. I think to tide me over the next couple days, I'm going to go back and re-watch them again. There was so much stuff being covered in the first one, that it took me a while to understand what was going on. Plus, since there is so much going on, I forget most of the names, unless they're in basically every episode.

Also, I was very disappointed after watching the first 8 to find out that there are only 10 episodes to the season

But for real I did think the show/books were going to have pacing similar to "Pillars of the Earth", moving at a fairly rapid pace and finishing what like 30-40 years after it started? Seems to me like this series will take place over like 5-6.

just caught up last night.... friggin badass episode. very impressed with how well they are translating the depth of the books into hourly TV episodes.

Hopefully GRRM is learning from this experience -and that will translate into quality over quantity in the final books (unlike his last two).

Has anyone else noticed that Dany has lost weight/toned up since episode 1? she looks waay hotter imo

But, alas, one more day until a new episode.
