I just recently realized AmEx now only offers companion certificate to Platinum members now, and only on the renewal date (previously they sent them to Gold members every year). I was recently talking to a CSR bitching about a fraudulent charge when they thanked me for my 5 years of loyalty (on my Gold Skymiles card). Do you think I could score a companion cert right away if I call and offer to upgrade with the threat of cancelling my card altogether otherwise? 11/4/2013 5:57:28 PM |

Just called to cancel my two citi AA personal cards before my free year was up Was able to get a statement credit for the annual fee on each card One card also gives me an extra 750 miles after I spend 750 The other cards gives me an extra 1000 miles after I spend 1000 plus 3x on gas, groceries, restaurants, and dept stores 11/6/2013 2:22:44 PM |

For some reason I didn't think they give the SW bonus for more than one card.
That said I just signed up for the plus

so I got the Citi AA card and im about to hit the year mark. I called in to cancel it, and they said that if I wait until the year mark, they'll let me switch over to another no-fee card, keeping my credit history with them, and as long as its within 37 days of the annual fee hitting, they'll refund the fee back to me. So question is, which Citi no-fee card should I switch to? 11/10/2013 8:21:05 PM |

Why would you use a service that is specifically designed to fuck you out of your wealth?
Do you really think you can beat the house?
The whole system is designed to exploit weaknesses in your human psyche.
Here's my strategy: Go fuck yourself

So I am trying to book a few hotel rooms, I am looking at the 1:1 transfer between my Chase Sapphire and Hyatt and that the Hyatt hotels are way nicer for the amount of points. (5k points a night for a hotel vs 15k for a similar Marriott)
Supposedly you earn the points much slower at Hyatt, but I think I can use these points I already have and get WAY more hotel from Hyatt than Marriott if I am figuring this right. 11/10/2013 10:46:41 PM |
David0603 All American 12764 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah, I've heard that Hyatt is pretty baller. I have about 80K UR chase pts I may hold onto for future travel and looking forward to my 2 free room certificates as well. 11/10/2013 11:41:21 PM |

From what I can tell a Category 1 Hyatt (5k/nt) is comparable to like a SpringHill suites which is usually 3 or higher on Marriott (20k/nt). The category 2-4 Hyatts look like 4-5 on Marriott. 11/11/2013 10:11:34 AM |

Well no doubt credit card points (especially Chase UR) are worth more than Hotel points. Marriott are worth about 6 cents/point...whike I just got a quote for >1.5 cents/point for my Chase UR points.
I was about to sell my Chase points but I may hang on to them if I can get rooms for ~$75 worth of points per night.
What are some other good uses for them? 11/11/2013 10:30:24 AM |

this is interesting (from http://thepointsguy.com/2013/07/top-10-almost-too-good-to-be-true-credit-card-perks/)
Quote : | "10. Make tax payments using your miles-earning debit card: Although the Delta Skymiles World Check Card from Suntrust doesn’t have a great sign up bonus (only 5,000 miles after your first purchase), using a miles-earning debit card to pay your taxes can help you rake in tons of miles. When processing tax payments online or by phone using a debit card, you only incur fees that are nominal compared to those that are charged when you use a credit card to pay your taxes. Here is the official government list of approved tax payment vendors and the rates they charge for using a credit card versus a debit card to pay taxes:
Tax vendors
For example, let’s say you owed $20,000 in taxes – not uncommon for small businesses or those who take a lot of exceptions on their payroll taxes. If you were to pay using PayUSATax.com, you would incur a fee of either $378 for using a credit card, or just $3.49 for using a debit card a savings of 99.1%!" |
