Grantland article about Wilson (and 3 other QBs)

Quote : | "So that leaves Wilson, who picked up a no. 1 wideout over the offseason, Vikings standout Percy Harvin. Even better, Wilson won't be splitting the first-team practice reps with anybody during training camp this year. I'm pretty comfortable picking him as the best quarterback from the Gang of Four in 2013. (Also, sorry for putting that hex on you, Russell Wilson.)" |

I remember him as a State alumnus as do thousands of other State fans. My buds that have nothing to do with NC State, but follow sports know he went to NC State too. Stop trolling so hard on this RW stuff. It is really, really lame.

^^^ How many average fans truly know the college of any athlete JayBBBBBBBBBB120000000?
I can ask my wife where Tom Brady went and she probably doesn't know, but she knows he's a QB in the NFL and knows that he plays for the Pats and that he is good and bangs models. I mean what the hell are you hoping to accomplish by constantly harping on the fact that Wilson also went to Wisconsin??

I think most NFL fans know where Tom Brady went to college.
on a related note, that is a weird skill of mine, crazy ability to remember where players went to college, even obscure players
and my name is pronounced the way it is spelled, you dont have to do that. But no one thinks of you as RF LONG, its RoffleLong. 7/17/2013 4:47:07 PM |

I'd actually argue against that. Unless they are hardcore NFL AND College fans....most NFL fans don't know where college players came from if they weren't a hot commodity coming into the draft...which Tom Brady wasn't. I had no clue that brady went to alabama, and I watch a ton of NFL games during the season, and keep up with my favorite teams and players latest news as well...
Sorta back to topic ... in the past Ten years, is there a list of graduates/early drafters from Any college as strong as the Rivers, Wilson, Glennon trio at the QB position? 7/18/2013 8:44:55 AM |

depends on what you mean by "as strong"... I assume you just mean college success since Glennon hasnt played a down in the NFL yet. So just going by college, one could say:
USC with Palmer, Leinart, Sanchez, Barkley Georgia with Greene, Stafford and Murray Oklahoma with White, Bradford and Jones Florida with Grossman, Leak, Tebow7/18/2013 9:49:17 AM |

I'd say the Wilson/Rivers combo is about as strong as it gets. If Glennon is even decent, then NC State wins going away. 7/18/2013 11:38:14 AM |

therefore that means the list does not have anything to do with NFL success (since Glennon hasnt even played a down, once again), and therefore getting drafted or not does not matter and NFL success does not matter7/18/2013 12:46:09 PM |

Ah, so its NFL only, but then you can consider a player that hasn't played in the NFL yet if it helps your argument. Classic Sports Talk grasping at straws to make yourself feel better logic. And if you knew anything and had any interest in an actual adult, logical discussion, you would realize that half the options I mentioned weren't even SEC

^^What is your reaction to this quote that you ignored? It clearly says that the two that have played in the NFL are strong enough to get the win, so IF Glennon is decent, State will easily win. So that is a logical argument that says that the ones that played in the NFL are enough and the one who hasn't, if he is decent. You understand that quote yet? You want a little more break down of it. I could say it at least 2, maybe 3 more different ways.7/18/2013 2:12:58 PM |

^If by gone to shit, you mean his O-Line is horrible and he tries to force plays because he is trying to do what he can to win without a line. Then yes. He makes tons of turnovers, and he's the QB and its his responsibility. But as fans debating how good he is, don't forget to factor in everything. 7/18/2013 2:17:32 PM |

^^^ so we are talking about the best two currently playing and then a future player's potential, but not too far into the future, got it. So what we really need is a list of colleges that have two QBs currently players in the NFL and one QB who is in the NFL as of this draft class but has yet to play a game, that's what we are comparing. Got it.
^ no, hes just horrible now

^^Find me three quarterbacks in the NFL who graduated/left early from the same college, and compare them to Rivers/Wilson/Glennon. The only thing that Glennon brings to the table right now is being drafted and signing and presumably he is number 2 on the depth chart. Find me 3 from another school and compare it to them. Please entertain us with what you are going to come up with.

^ so would three of them having actually played in the NFL outweigh two out of three playing no matter how good those two are? we talking "sum all stats for all three players" which means Glennon contributes nothing ? we talking just this past year? career? best year?

If I said all that Glennon brings to the table right now is being drafted, signing and presumably being number 2 on the depth chart, then it would be reasonable to believe that factors in. So yes he counts for that. I guess I do have to explain things 2 or 3 times for you to understand what is being said. It's alright I can do that for you.
There is going to be no way to look at three players and objectively or even subjectively compare them definitively. So how about you find 3 and we discuss them. Isn't that the point of a message board. 7/18/2013 2:46:27 PM |

apparently you cant read as you didnt answer most of my questions... if we are talking about taking three QBs currently in the NFL and summing their career stats to see who has the best combined stats I think I would take USC. Hell I would take Peyton and these nuts over just about any group of three if thats what we are talking about. 7/18/2013 2:49:57 PM |

I think part of it is that there are three quarterbacks from one school. Saying Peyton is better than all three is a blatantly obvious. Taking the best QB in the league and saying he is better than everyone else is not even worth doing. He's the best, of course he is better than everyone else.
Find me 3 quarterbacks from the same school, name them and we will discuss from there.7/18/2013 2:55:15 PM |

once again, I need to know what we are basing this off of... combined career stats? stats just for last year? projected level of play for 2013?
^ maybe more than one, but still, hes played a decade probably... just time alone would have his stats high, IF we are talking about career stats.

I would put Rivers over Palmer...not by a huge margin...but definitely better. The rest of the USC QBs have blown mightily. 7/18/2013 3:08:32 PM |
mdmurphy919 Veteran 415 Posts user info edit post |
So Jaybee has yet to come up with a list of three. Or would you like to to take the USC route. And I'm not sure exactly how you can compare three players like that. If you look at career wise, Rivers is the best of the six, then Palmer and then Leinart and Wilson are close (Wilson's career is short but it was a great year), and its debatable whether Sanchez Is better than Glennon. Yes he has actually had a career, but he hurts his team being in the game. Glennon hasn't played and hasn't hurt his team. So career wise USC might have it.
But looking at each player today, Rivers and Wilson are easily in front, I won't put Palmer in the negative, Glennon is even, and Sanchez and Leinart are in the negative. So I give today's talent to State.
Of course I'm just looking at the eye test, which is completely subjective and up for debate.
